Re: Sort of Humorous

Steve Wright Lines Is "tired old cliche" one? If you tell a joke in the forest, but nobody laughs, was it a joke? I went to a fancy french restaurant called "Deja Vu." The headwaiter said, "Don't I know you?" I heard that in relativity theory, space and time are the same thing. Einstein discovered t...

Re: '19-'20 Winter Support Group Thread

Winter has arrived. I put the clubs back into the basement. We will struggle to get above 32 degrees the balance of the month and periodic snow is in the forecast. It was a good January with 3 rounds. Time to get the discs out of storage.

Re: '19-'20 Winter Support Group Thread

Played in a charity event today out in Yucaipa. Was 37 degrees at the shotgun start. There was some sort of icy glaze on the fairways. Short game showing some signs of life. That is pretty darn cold for you sunshine loving Californians. What did you wear? Ski parka, mittens, electric boot warmers?

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month

December 14 found me at my winter home, Fox Hills. The course was very firm so it was possible to get some fairly large rollouts. #9 on the "Lakes" is a short par 5 (450 yards) where the typical play is lay up short of the pond, hit a 2nd shot to inside 100 yards and wedge it close. I decided to let...

Re: January Golf!

I decided partly sunny and 40 degrees was too nice to stay home. Good choice. There was just enough breeze to help or hurt a shot but the weather was spectacular for January. And … not a single person on the course other than me. I was a bit concerned that the ground and greens would be frozen but t...

I got a round in today. Not my best scoring (85) but the course played long.

... I'm okay with 196 rounds. At least it's not 199 and only one single little round short. That would hurt.
That is a good way to look at this situation and similar ones.

This is my new jam. Road trip driving videos. Nothing but mile after mile of asphalt. Visually soothing.
The fast motion start in California was not soothing to this midwestern guy. I could see a normal paced video of a drive through the Green Mountain State being soothing.

You sound like the kind of twosome I always want ahead of me. I love fast golfers....except when they're on my butt. I just played myself at one of my old standbys in Sarasota... Re: December Golf!!!

Me too.👍🏻 Nice to hear from an old friend. We had an interesting experience today. My buddy, who only will play golf with a cart, wanted to play. A couple days ago we booked a time at the only course allowing carts for 10:00am. That was the 2nd tee time of the day. Well, the tee sheet filled quickl...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Played my old Winter standby, Fox Hills. Hit the ball decently. No birdies, possibly because the greens are getting really fuzzy from continuing to grow in the relatively mild weather. Difficult to hit it hard enough. Tomorrow I try Whitmore Lake again, only this time the ground will be thawed. I ho...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

We are in a stretch of great December weather. May try to tee it up Thursday and Friday. Like FL, even if I wanted to play today, everything is closed.

Long ago, my parent's club in FL allowed members to walk the course when it was officially closed. Still never did the Christmas Golf thing.

Well, are you playing today? I have never played on Christmas or our anniversary (11/17). Every other "important" day I have covered.

Re: '19-'20 Winter Support Group Thread

The three days I know I have never played: Christmas Day, my wife's birthday and our anniversary. Of course, the birthday is in February so the weather has never cooperated. The anniversary is in mid-November and up to this point I have not been tempted. Christmas Day is predicted to be in the mid-4...

Re: The Grumble Thread

I use a site called Guidestar to access 990's and other info. That is my source for info on the USGA. Mike Davis was paid $1,000,000+/- in 2017. Not saying he isn't worth that salary but when one works for a charitable nonprofit, it is sometimes viewed as unseemly to be paid like a corporate CEO.

Re: The Grumble Thread

Jason Gore, former PGA Tour player, is now with the USGA. I received an email from Jason (and the USGA) asking me to donate at least $125 to the USGA. Frankly, I have had a chip on my shoulder as respects the USGA and what I consider their money grubbing ways. I support the USGA in a limited way (US...

Re: 2019 PGA Tour thread

It was an interesting event. I watched most of the back nine singles. I assume the final two matches on the course were "halved" by hole concessions rather than Kuchar and Fowler losing the final hole. I did not attempt to watch after it was decided. The USA was supposed to beat the pants off a "no ...

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of November

I could probably name a shot in December, too. I will try to be optimistic, however, despite the long term weather picture for the Frozen Mitten. I will also spare everyone going back to September and October. Nope, today it is just about November. Way back on 11/5, I played at my home course, Lesli...
