The reason this is so memorable is that for years it was the only bunker shot I ever holed. Still have only done it 3 times - not a strength of my game.
I am tied with you at three :facepalm

Considering the number of years playing and the volume of rounds, 3 is pretty pathetic for me.

Team Golf Games

Played a small "Chapman" event (just five 2-man teams). Interesting concept. Each player tees off. Then you play your partner's ball for the 2nd shot. At that point, you select the ball that is in the best position and whomever did not hit that ball last, hits the 3rd shot. The team alternates from ...

Re: 2018 Fall Support Group

No hurricane here but we seem to get a substantial rainfall every other day. I am really tired of slogging down saturated fairways in order to hit a mud ball out of a puddle.

Re: Random thoughts

I have trouble keeping track of every social media approach. I thought Facebook was the province of "older" people. If one is 29 and under, Snap Chat, Instagram or Twitter was the thing. There are likely half a dozen other "social" connection methods of which I am totally unaware. I often read about...

Re: The New 2019 Rules

My new approach for "finding" my ball in the rough will be to first evaluate the lie from a distance. If it looks poor, I will need to accidentally walk on top of the ball, say "Oops, I stepped on my ball" and then attempt to get a better lie by dropping from knee height. Now back to reality. I had...

Re: 2018 LPGA thread

I was a little surprised by the composition of the US team. Michelle Wie and Christie Kerr are 29th and 46th on the current money list yet they were still among the top four World Golf ranked US players. Nine US ladies have won more money than Ms. Wie this year and 17 are ahead of Ms. Kerr. Our Wies...

Cold or hot, just don't rain anymore. It is not a lot of fun playing out of puddles.

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month

Well, so far this month I have played three times, other than a team competition down in Indiana. Although I have the weekend to top the following entry, I think this will hold up. Today I hit into a greenside bunker on the 13th hole at Huron Meadows. I was hoping to get the next shot close enough t...

Re: 2018 Fall Support Group

Being a world traveler, I have not played a full "scoring" round since 9/6/2018. I did participate in the Challenge Cup matches (old farts from Indiana versus crusty seniors from Michigan) earlier this week. Team matches with foursomes and fourballs are not like playing an 18 with each shot counting...

Mickey D's Portugese Style

I will admit to visiting a McDonalds about once a year. I am pretty used to the garish golden arches architecture, the plastic interior, and squad of high school and senior employees. So I was intrigued by this Portuguese McDonalds, along with a tour bus full of Asian tourists. We were all standing ...

It is hard to keep track of things occurring in the Western Hemisphere. Time differences and losing track of the day of the week. Tiger was 3 under an hour ago.

I will be in Portugal for a couple weeks. While I will likely have internet access, I may find more interesting things to do than hang out on the internet. If I am even less involved than normal in our golf discussions, I have a reasonable excuse. Bon dia!!

Re: The Grumble Thread

Labor Day weekend, often the time when Goober decides to play his second round (and last) of 2018. Goober decides to bring along his spouse and their two kids. Or maybe have a generational round with Gramps, Dad and the 7 year old son. I stood on the 11th tee surveying the scene before me. Sprinkled...

Re: The Tiger Thread

After 20+ years with the same putter, Tiger switched to a mallet. Now he is back to a more "traditional" style putter. When a player starts switching putters, I take that as a sign of big problems.

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month

There have been some decent efforts this month but I need to go back to the last hole of Pierce Lake on August 3. The finishing hole is nominally 195 yards or so to the "middle". There is a pin position back right that snakes behind a large bunker with crap short and right. I measured the distance t...

Re: Random golf thoughts

I made an observation (to myself) the other day how, for me, one of the more nervous moments in a round is trying to get up and down for bogey. Of course, par is the holy grail but most of us hackers and slashers are typically okay with a bogey. We understand we are going to have bogeys. One can rec...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Got up around 6:30am this morning. I checked the tee times online for a course I occasionally play, Huron Meadows. For some reason, we senior citizens don't like to play really early. There was a 4-some teeing off at the 1st tee time of 7:04am. Then nobody until 7:52am, when it quickly was going to ...

The Annoying Partner/Fellow Player Thread

Here are just two from the past 2-day tournament: 1. The Bare Foot Wonder - Jeff was the 3rd competitor in our 3-some. He would set-up with his club head wide open and presumably count on his timing to close the face enough at impact to hit it straight or with a slight draw. It worked sometimes. Whe...
