Re: Sort of Humorous - For the Beefster

I quickly discovered that trying to go play golf while living in Manhattan was about as easy as trying to grab a taxi while standing out in front of Saks Fifth Avenue in the freezing rain on the last shopping day before Christmas.

Re: recycling

Yes, the problem now is that much of what we toss in the recycle bin doesn't get recycled. Virtually no glass is recycled. Plastic is a big problem because of contamination. Same with paper and cardboard. The best solution is what LB mentioned, don't produce the waste in the first place. I never buy...

Mud fest. I did make a few decent swings but overall it was a disaster. I was ready to follow my ball into the hazard on #15 but couldn't break the ice. :puke

I am playing today. Report to follow unless I get so pissed off that I drown myself in a water hazard.

What is the Spanish equivalent of Eldrick?

Re: Putting out of longish grass

...A bit annoyed ... I went back to the same place ... This time I used a putter. Sure enough, got it hole high, but just about a foot left. Would have been a tap-in up and down. Woulda, shoulda, coulda. :facepalm Been there done that too many times. I wonder if sticking with the option that works ...

Re: Post your pics of the courses you play

... I like pictures. So do I. We need more photos. I will start dragging my camera along. Maybe do a collage of all the holes on which I have scored a hole in one. :ohyeah ... the picture on page 8... Aren't we supposed to start out on a non-challenging hole to ease into the round? Ha, ha, ha. I lo...

Crazy Rich Asians - Movie

I watched this film on our trip to TX. Watching it, the title could just as easily have been "Crazy Rich Americans" or "Crazy Rich Europeans", etc...if the cast had been changed. I wonder if my fellow Midwesterners impression of "Asians" changed at all after seeing the movie?

Re: Remember the Wedge Guy from Oob?

I do not recall the surgeon, either. I do recall thinking that TWG talked a better game than he played. I would periodically check his GHIN index. He did not post a lot of scores at his TX club and they were mainly from the "White" tees. He no longer as an index in TX so either he moved or gave up t...

NCAA 2019 Basketball Tournament

The hell with the NBA. Golf? Forget aboudit. Baseball? Pffttt! Hockey? With the Wings rebuilding there are no shits to be given in the Mitten. It is Tournament time!!! My fondest memory of 2018 was a fellow MPSGA board member talking up Virginia. He is an alum and he was sure Virginia was going to d...

The Grint Handicap

I was wondering if having a "Grint" handicap was going to be an issue for me. I have a GHIN-based handicap and have for many years. The Grint also currently has a USGA compliant handicap although you won't see any entry in GHIN. I say "currently" because they will likely get squeezed out by the USGA...

Re: 3rd Annual Frozen Balls Challenge - 2018-2019

I am sitting in a hotel in Texas. No golf for me. :wah Wedding was cool. The mayor of Boerne, TX, presided. He looks and sounds like what we imagine a life long Texan to be. I enlisted the youngest grandson, 8, to help decorate the bride & groom's car. Balloons with messages and cans on a string tie...

Re: 2018-2019 Winter Support Group

The one silver lining for the SE corner of the Mitten is we don't have a lot of snow and ice. Our cover is an inch or two and that will be gone in a couple days with 60 degrees and rain. The bigger issue is thawing the ground so the rain has somewhere to go. We need some dry days and a stiff breeze....

Want to feel old? Have your grandson get married. We are flying to Texas for a few days and will be at his wedding.

Great Grandpa Brian ... :fk

p.s. No they are not having a baby. I suspect they will both go to grad school and then think about kids.

I am with CeeBee. Permanent DST. The problem is we need everyone to do the same, otherwise we end up with no idea what time it is somewhere else in the country. I know I sure as Hell don't want to stay on EST for all year. Playing golf at 4:00 am isn't my idea of fun.

Okay, that makes a lot of sense. You are absolutely correct. In this Twitter/Instagram/Facebook world no one keeps much private, especially "celebrities."

I would have to actually play golf in order to bother to learn how to post crap to The Grint Virtual Tour. Or can I create a virtual round? Yes!?!? In that case, I shot 63 yesterday playing the Black Tees at Leslie Park. :yess

Our kid is getting married. As usual, way too soon, rushing into things. :nope She is 29 so it is not like she is a child bride. Good move hitching a guy from a basketball family (tall). If she had low incentive to practice and hone her game, she now has even less. I have to think the son of an NBA...

The extended forecast is starting to look okay. Every day above freezing and even a period with no temps under 32. The snow and ice will be gone shortly. Now the drying out process starts. The SE corner of the Mitten is fairly swampy and we have clay soil in many places. Not a good combination in th...

Re: Getting out of a slump

Seeing my swing on video sent me into a 2 year slump. I preferred my idealized golf self-image to reality. At the end of the day, I have now come to accept my game, flaws and all, while mildly working on a few of the biggest issues. I am too old to re-build my swing completely, only to exclaim one d...
