Re: 3rd Annual Frozen Balls Challenge - 2018-2019

I am sitting in a hotel in Texas. No golf for me. :wah Wedding was cool. The mayor of Boerne, TX, presided. He looks and sounds like what we imagine a life long Texan to be. I enlisted the youngest grandson, 8, to help decorate the bride & groom's car. Balloons with messages and cans on a string tie...

Re: 2018-2019 Winter Support Group

The one silver lining for the SE corner of the Mitten is we don't have a lot of snow and ice. Our cover is an inch or two and that will be gone in a couple days with 60 degrees and rain. The bigger issue is thawing the ground so the rain has somewhere to go. We need some dry days and a stiff breeze....

Weddings and stuff

Want to feel old? Have your grandson get married. We are flying to Texas for a few days and will be at his wedding.

Great Grandpa Brian ... :fk

p.s. No they are not having a baby. I suspect they will both go to grad school and then think about kids.

Re: 2018-2019 Winter Support Group

I am with CeeBee. Permanent DST. The problem is we need everyone to do the same, otherwise we end up with no idea what time it is somewhere else in the country. I know I sure as Hell don't want to stay on EST for all year. Playing golf at 4:00 am isn't my idea of fun.

Okay, that makes a lot of sense. You are absolutely correct. In this Twitter/Instagram/Facebook world no one keeps much private, especially "celebrities."

Re: The Grint Virtual Tour

I would have to actually play golf in order to bother to learn how to post crap to The Grint Virtual Tour. Or can I create a virtual round? Yes!?!? In that case, I shot 63 yesterday playing the Black Tees at Leslie Park. :yess

Re: The Wie Watch

Our kid is getting married. As usual, way too soon, rushing into things. :nope She is 29 so it is not like she is a child bride. Good move hitching a guy from a basketball family (tall). If she had low incentive to practice and hone her game, she now has even less. I have to think the son of an NBA...

Re: Spring 2019 Golf

The extended forecast is starting to look okay. Every day above freezing and even a period with no temps under 32. The snow and ice will be gone shortly. Now the drying out process starts. The SE corner of the Mitten is fairly swampy and we have clay soil in many places. Not a good combination in th...

Re: Getting out of a slump

Seeing my swing on video sent me into a 2 year slump. I preferred my idealized golf self-image to reality. At the end of the day, I have now come to accept my game, flaws and all, while mildly working on a few of the biggest issues. I am too old to re-build my swing completely, only to exclaim one d...

Yes, the old lingering injury issue has me concerned. I doubt a stiff neck would cause El Tigré to withdraw from an event he was won 8 times. :bawl

It is always wet in the U.K. The only variation is whether it is cold or just cool. :school

Spring 2019 Golf

It is going to be a while for the Perpetually Frozen Mitten. The extended forecast, however, does have a day with a temperature over 40 degrees (f).

Re: February Golf

A local golf blogger has been touting his streak of 47 months (same as mine until I hit 48). I know he had not played in February so I posted a comment on February 25 asking if he had done February and that he had only 3 more days. He went out on February 26, 25 degrees and windy, and played nine. G...

BK, this morning before my round, I had a guy welcoming me by name at my home course. Re: Jfurr Thread

The furrman is a lost cause. He works and he does his music thing. No time for practicing golf, much less playing. Plus, when he does play, he suffers from memories of when he was a semi-competent player. As time goes on, he likely has "enhanced" his recollection of his former golf abilities.

How do you handle back stopping?

I play about 20 tournament rounds a year. These are not high level events but the Rules of Golf apply. I understand that I may play promptly from off the green after another player's shot stops past the hole, creating a "back stop." I typically will not play until the other player has had a chance t...

Re: 2019 PGA Tour thread

I watched to end of the taped delayed LPGA tournament. It was a lot more interesting than the WGC event. I can't believe that Minjee left her eagle putt short. A three putt got her a tie for 2nd so go for the win. Yes, a birdie got solo 2nd but c'mon! :nope
