Airplane Seat Switching

A while back I was flying back from NC solo. I had selected an aisle seat on the "2 Seat" side. The other side had 3 seats. A woman approached me and asked "We are a family flying together, would you be willing to switch with me so we can sit together?" Grandma and two 10-12 year...

Newly Cut Holes vs. Beat Up Holes

I played yesterday and it was clear that my "home" course is saving a bit of money in November by not relocating and cutting new holes. Yesterday some of the holes were pretty beat up despite the recent limited play (cold, windy and/or wet weather since the beginning of October). Sometimes...

Re: 2017 LPGA thread

I have often wondered about the use of "sino" to designate China. Thanks to lb and Wikipedia, I finally know the answer.

Those who truly believe the tournament is being thrown by the Korean ladies for diplomacy, tighten up the chin straps on your foil hats.

Re: The Tiger Thread

I will need to consider whether I want to watch this spectacle or not. I really do not want to see an out of shape, balding Tiger struggle to make pars with a swing that looks more like mine than Tiger-2008.

Maybe Sunday depending on our weather here in the Frigid Mitten.

Re: Autumn Support Group Thread

The last month where I did not play at least one round of golf in Michigan was February, 2015. Considering our weather, 33 straight months is fairly amazing. The recent trend has been decidedly cool and our predicted high temperature Friday is 30 degrees (f). Rain and cool temperatures has been the ...

Re: Autumn Support Group Thread

Dark at 5:30pm here and eventually 5:00, on those rare days when we even have sun. Puts a damper on late afternoon rounds. We have had constant wetness since the end of September. Every course is like a sponge. Sigh. Now we are going to get freezing temps at night. The end is near.

Re: Summer Support Group

52, partly sunny and wet like a soaked sponge. I really dislike playing when everything is a muddy, shitty, mess. But I played anyway. Then cut our lawn for maybe the penultimate time in 2017.

Or perhaps it is a reflection of the fact that the current lineup of professionals at the top is like a revolving door?

Re: If You Could Play Golf as Often as You Prefer, How Often?

Around 85-90 as of 10/9. Since I switched to independent contractor status (4/1) and essentially work 2 days a week, one would expect I would be playing more but that hasn't happened. Somewhere along the line I lost my game and probably as a consequence, my burning desire to be on the course. I have...

Re: Severe downhill lie to a distant uphill target

For me, one of the toughest lies in the game. I'm not talking about a lie where your front foot is a couple inches lower than your rear foot. I mean a lie where your front foot is 8-12 inches, or more, below your back foot, like on the front side of a steep mogul. I feel this shot is nearly impossi...

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month

My September was a bit golfless, being out of the country for much of the month. The best and most timely was early in the month at one of my fav courses, Pierce Lake. I arrived at #18 needing a par 3 to break 80. I had just finished butchering #16 and #17. The final hole is listed at around 195 yar...

Food - Fresh Buffalo Mozzarella

I had always sort of wondered why fresh "Buffalo Mozzarella" was called "Buffalo". I intuitively knew it was not because it came from Buffalo, NY. Still, why the name? Wikipedia explained that the term was used because the cheese was traditionally made in Italy from water buffalo...

Re: golf is hard

Pushing or carrying is a bit of an effort, no doubt. Certainly not like a 25 mile bike ride or running a 10k, but it still requires some stamina. I literally bought the lightest bag available and make an assessment of how many balls to take (usually 6), level in the water bottle (half) and whether t...

Re: Hello from Roma

Naturally, when one is away from home for 14 days, a visit to the Laundromat is required. I don't own 14 pairs of undershorts. I spotted a nice place in Vieste and did a few of our items. I don't speak or read Italian, other than a few phrases. Above the small washing machine, there was the followin...

We made it back. The last day was a bit of a bother. Up early and took a cab to the Napoli train station. Caught the 7:08 fast train to Roma Termini station. The fast train is no bullet train but books along at 150 miles per hour. Once at Termini, we bought tickets on the "Leonardo Express"...
