Re: 2018 PGA Tour Thread

I may have watched a collective 30 minutes of golf since 1/1/2018. And 20 of those minutes were watching Tiger make the cut in San Diego.

Re: February Golf.

For northern peoples, the rarest of all the winter golfs. Agree and well done getting in some turf work in February. After an extremely snowy and cold start to this month, I was pretty much resigned to my streak ending at 35. We still have a lot of snow cover but the extended forecast is above free...

New forum-wide rule effective immediately. All specific references to the great Roger Federer must be as "the Maestro". "Roger Federer the Maestro" is also acceptable. Compliance is not optional. Don't make me wake up the auto-correct bot.
Is RFTM acceptable? Or some other snazzy short-cut?

Re: January Golf!

I am still in Hawaii for a few more days, and I won't bore you with how nice and warm it is and all that stuff... Thank you!! ;) It was probably a lot like Hawaii here is the Partially Thawed Mitten. 40 degrees (f), cloudy, breezy and a bit of rain sprinkles. It was so nice I went around the "Flat ...

Re: Tennis

Fed in the final. Again. Greatest sportsman of our time. Federer is kind of like Tiger, if Tiger had kept his shit together and never ran over a fire hydrant etc. Word up. I was also happy to see Caroline Wozniacki (sp) finally win a major. She has had the unfortunate fate of being considered a 2nd...

Re: January Golf!

Well shit look who just got thawed out. January golf in the mitten, awright. Turf looks better than ours. :fkno Yes, we have a few days of temperate weather and then back into the freezer. Your observation about the turf is spot on. Even the greens, while mostly concrete, looked good and actually r...

So, how'd you hit 'em after your forced layoff?
Not too poorly. This time of year if I hit a couple well, that is about all I can expect. It is more like walking around with a golf bag than real golf.

Re: January Golf!

Our snow cover has disappeared and today the temps got up to 49 degrees. My winter "go to" course, Fox Hills, was closed. I needed to do SOMETHING as these days are fairly rare. So off to Huron Hills and their "flat seven". The ground was still extremely firm so hitting a green resulted in an advent...

Re: 2018 Winter Season Support Group

During our one day reprieve, I thought about giving it a go at the local City executive course. All the snow cover was mostly gone and they allow fools hardy golfers play year round on the "flat seven" that runs along the river and has few trees. We walked my home course, instead. There were a numbe...

Re: Breaking 80: What it means to you

If one is playing a game, there should be a measure of whether one is playing the game well or not. For me, the level of 80 represents an arbitrary "good/not good" dividing line. If I were a pro, possibly "par" would be the line. I need a measuring stick and for my feeble game, 80 works.

Re: While on the Subject of Travelin' Golf

Hey BK, while on the subject of travelin' golf, we have 5 days in a row of playable weather forecast here in Frederick, MD beginning today, Dec. 18th. I have room in my group for tomorrow's tee time at 11:20 as well as the rest of the days. Supposed to be near 60* tomorrow. I checked MapQuest. It s...

While on the Subject of Travelin' Golf

How far have you driven for a single round of golf, round trip? Time & miles, if one recalls the details. This past summer I have a long local trip caused by traffic. 4 hours round trip. Distance was not that much of an issue, maybe 120 miles or so round trip. I think 190 miles round trip is about t...

Everything is white here in the Frigid Mitten. A few days of 40+ degrees would clean the little covering up but it is not going to happen for at least 10 days.

Re: How far do you have to travel to your home course?

5-10 minutes to a couple courses. I rarely travel more than 30 minutes (one way) unless it is a tournament. The other day I was driving to the other side of town and it was going to take around 20 minutes. I was sort of internally bitchin' until I thought about it a bit. What the hell, 20 minutes is...

Yup, my last golf was played December 2. The clubs are down in the basement, probably until March unless we take a trip south or El Nino comes to my rescue.

Wife's uncle played in the ProAm on Wednesday. His mate "sponsored" them, $75K to play. They chose Rickie and said he's a cool dude, really nice. And they won. -13 on the front and -8 or -9 on the back. Last year he played it, he played with DJ. Holy crap! $75,000. :o I am sure I have not spent tha...

Re: The Grumble Thread

This falls into the "premature grumble" column. Yesterday I was literally the only person on the course (other than maintenance). As I was playing the 4th hole, I noted one other individual had teed off on #1. So now there are two of us on a 27-hole layout. As I played #6, I noted my distant compani...

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month

Not a huge supply of "best shots" for the month so I will select a very recent effort, Yesterday I was playing the "year round open" course Fox Hills. I was one of two people who played yesterday. 45 degrees, very windy (20 mph with strong gusts) but sunny. Actually kind of pleasant. The course is a...
