Re: December Golf!!!

:fk 7 inches more snow so I spent a large part of the day shoveling. Then the wife reported her car was acting up (a warning light that is a wrench). :fkno

Maybe the huge oak will fall on our house to round out the day. :puke

Re: December Golf!!!

Everything is white here in the Frigid Mitten. A few days of 40+ degrees would clean the little covering up but it is not going to happen for at least 10 days.

Re: How far do you have to travel to your home course?

5-10 minutes to a couple courses. I rarely travel more than 30 minutes (one way) unless it is a tournament. The other day I was driving to the other side of town and it was going to take around 20 minutes. I was sort of internally bitchin' until I thought about it a bit. What the hell, 20 minutes is...

Yup, my last golf was played December 2. The clubs are down in the basement, probably until March unless we take a trip south or El Nino comes to my rescue.

Wife's uncle played in the ProAm on Wednesday. His mate "sponsored" them, $75K to play. They chose Rickie and said he's a cool dude, really nice. And they won. -13 on the front and -8 or -9 on the back. Last year he played it, he played with DJ. Holy crap! $75,000. :o I am sure I have not spent tha...

Re: The Grumble Thread

This falls into the "premature grumble" column. Yesterday I was literally the only person on the course (other than maintenance). As I was playing the 4th hole, I noted one other individual had teed off on #1. So now there are two of us on a 27-hole layout. As I played #6, I noted my distant compani...

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month

Not a huge supply of "best shots" for the month so I will select a very recent effort, Yesterday I was playing the "year round open" course Fox Hills. I was one of two people who played yesterday. 45 degrees, very windy (20 mph with strong gusts) but sunny. Actually kind of pleasant. The course is a...

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month

... The idiot who splashes his tee shot makes par. From my perspective, one of the hardest (and best) shots to make is the 3rd after drowning a ball on a par 3. You just proved you can't do it and then have to try again. You join the select company of Fred Couples and my father in making par the "e...

Obstruction, free relief if it can't be moved easily. (Like if it was lunch hour and no workers were there to do so.) Besides, out-of-season. Hope you moved it. :thumbs Oh yes, it was dropped at the nearest point of relief. I figured the workers would not be enthused about walking over and moving t...

Soggy Course Once Again

It has been tough sledding lately with all the moisture. Today, while walking in the middle of the fairways, it was common to leave pretty deep tracks. It is soggy when your foot steps remain.

Tough Lie

While playing today, the course workers were doing some major renovation work in a few spots. Pushed a tee shot on a par three and had a tough up & down.

We on the other hand have no such lame, quite frankly neutered policies here, so let's fire away. I am with jfish on this, when the President calls, I play golf. Yes, I find many aspects of the Donald's behavior to be abhorrent, childish or just plain crazy but playing golf with the President is mo...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

The season is winding down. My home course closed Friday and I slopped around it with an 81. Today it has rained all day. Sort of a depressing situation, playing poorly while the courses close and the season peters out as a muddy, cold mess.

Airplane Seat Switching

A while back I was flying back from NC solo. I had selected an aisle seat on the "2 Seat" side. The other side had 3 seats. A woman approached me and asked "We are a family flying together, would you be willing to switch with me so we can sit together?" Grandma and two 10-12 year old girls were in t...

Newly Cut Holes vs. Beat Up Holes

I played yesterday and it was clear that my "home" course is saving a bit of money in November by not relocating and cutting new holes. Yesterday some of the holes were pretty beat up despite the recent limited play (cold, windy and/or wet weather since the beginning of October). Sometimes beat up h...

I have often wondered about the use of "sino" to designate China. Thanks to lb and Wikipedia, I finally know the answer.

Those who truly believe the tournament is being thrown by the Korean ladies for diplomacy, tighten up the chin straps on your foil hats.

Re: The Tiger Thread

I will need to consider whether I want to watch this spectacle or not. I really do not want to see an out of shape, balding Tiger struggle to make pars with a swing that looks more like mine than Tiger-2008.

Maybe Sunday depending on our weather here in the Frigid Mitten.

Dark at 5:30pm here and eventually 5:00, on those rare days when we even have sun. Puts a damper on late afternoon rounds. We have had constant wetness since the end of September. Every course is like a sponge. Sigh. Now we are going to get freezing temps at night. The end is near.

52, partly sunny and wet like a soaked sponge. I really dislike playing when everything is a muddy, shitty, mess. But I played anyway. Then cut our lawn for maybe the penultimate time in 2017.
