Re: The Tiger Thread

It is hard to keep track of things occurring in the Western Hemisphere. Time differences and losing track of the day of the week. Tiger was 3 under an hour ago.

Re: 2018 summer support group

I will be in Portugal for a couple weeks. While I will likely have internet access, I may find more interesting things to do than hang out on the internet. If I am even less involved than normal in our golf discussions, I have a reasonable excuse. Bon dia!!

Re: The Grumble Thread

Labor Day weekend, often the time when Goober decides to play his second round (and last) of 2018. Goober decides to bring along his spouse and their two kids. Or maybe have a generational round with Gramps, Dad and the 7 year old son. I stood on the 11th tee surveying the scene before me. Sprinkled...

Re: The Tiger Thread

After 20+ years with the same putter, Tiger switched to a mallet. Now he is back to a more "traditional" style putter. When a player starts switching putters, I take that as a sign of big problems.

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month

There have been some decent efforts this month but I need to go back to the last hole of Pierce Lake on August 3. The finishing hole is nominally 195 yards or so to the "middle". There is a pin position back right that snakes behind a large bunker with crap short and right. I measured the distance t...

Re: Random golf thoughts

I made an observation (to myself) the other day how, for me, one of the more nervous moments in a round is trying to get up and down for bogey. Of course, par is the holy grail but most of us hackers and slashers are typically okay with a bogey. We understand we are going to have bogeys. One can rec...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Got up around 6:30am this morning. I checked the tee times online for a course I occasionally play, Huron Meadows. For some reason, we senior citizens don't like to play really early. There was a 4-some teeing off at the 1st tee time of 7:04am. Then nobody until 7:52am, when it quickly was going to ...

The Annoying Partner/Fellow Player Thread

Here are just two from the past 2-day tournament: 1. The Bare Foot Wonder - Jeff was the 3rd competitor in our 3-some. He would set-up with his club head wide open and presumably count on his timing to close the face enough at impact to hit it straight or with a slight draw. It worked sometimes. Whe...

Theft! Grumble grumble

I owned a Cannondale Quick 6 "Commuter" bicycle until some time today. Rode to work, parked in the back of the building where no one goes except employees of the tenants (our company and Duo Security - computer security). Locked the bike to the rack (front tire, rear, frame) with a cable and padlock...

Re: The Grumble Thread

5:10 Now, enter your guesses on this. We played day 2 of the Ann Arbor senior Golf Championship today. I did not play well or badly and carded an "80" in the first round. That put me in Flight 2 (Champion, 1st, 2nd, etc...). For some reason they had the 8th flight go off first at 7:20am and then the...

Re: Random golf thoughts

Hire a hit man. This guy is like a black cloud. He should be dead. I have a golf companion who insists on playing tournaments with me. I probably average 2-3 shots lower when he is not around. I have won twice this year in his absence. I keep encouraging him to stay in Arizona 12 months a year.

Re: The Tiger Thread

Other than media who are simply trying to produce clicks or views who is actually debating putting him in the Ryder cup? If he doesn't get picked it's because he told fyruk to not pick him and he only wants to play if he can play his way in. I think the Ryder Cup points end at the PGA. Tiger can't ...

Re: The Tiger Thread

A little bit of everything Sunday. I was glad I stayed glued to the TV. Only a brilliant day by Koepka kept Tiger out of the winner's circle. That was some display of scrambling on holes 4-9. I am excited about the 2019 majors. Any idea about Tiger's remaining 2018 schedule? Other than, of course, t...

Re: 2018 summer support group

Wear a shirt or upper body garment of some sort. Wear some type of shorts or pants. Wear some sort of foot wear that won't damage the green. You are good to go in my book as long as you replace divots/fill divot holes, fix pitch marks, carefully rake bunkers and keep up with the pace of play. As far...

Re: Where would you live?

I would own condos. No maintenance responsibilities when I am not there. The size could be fairly small, say a 2-bedroom unit. I'd have one in San Marcos, TX. Half way between my brother (Austin/Round Rock) and a group of the grand kids (San Antonio). That would be "home" since there is no income ta...

Forced Carry - Thought Process

I don't like forced carries, mainly because I have such low confidence that I will actually make the carry. Never mind that I have had a reasonably successful golf "career" and I have made the carry 98% of the time. Lately I have had such low confidence I way over club. My strategy for forced carrie...

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month

Opening shot of our tournament on 7/26. We started on #17 (shotgun start) 170 yards over water to a back pin. Wind in our face. The vegetation growing on the shore near the green obscured the target (note: I find this situation uncomfortable - not able to see the green). I hit what was likely the mo...

Re: The Open

I don't know if Tiger has enough left to win a major. Watching him on the back nine reminded me of a lot of aging superstar golfers (Snead, Hogan, Nicklaus). Other than Nicklaus's miracle at the Masters, all of them competed for majors after they were 40-42 but none of them won. They could make the ...

I'll send you a packet of seeds. The birds eat the berries and spread it all over so soon you will enjoy the same conditions.
