Re: golf is hard

Another short story (long-winded post) from your resident obsessive golf enthusiast and Titleist loyalist: So, my regular golf buddy, Bernie, set up a tee time last week for himself and one of his old college buddies to play yesterday. He asked me last week if I would like to join them. To be honest...

Re: Too many clubs. What would you do?

Fish, yeah, I played Vokeys in a 52/56/60 set-up for years back when I played AP2-712s, which had a 47* PW. Loved the set-up and the 60 specifically. It had 7* of bounce. Never had a problem with the loft. (I actually had a 64* wedge as well, but only used it for fun as I had no room in the bag.) Wh...

Re: Too many clubs. What would you do?

So, to follow up (as if anyone gives a shit), the gap between the new 19* 818H1 hybrid and my AP3-718 5 iron is a bit too wide. So, I ended up having a AP1-718 4 iron custom built with a graphite UST Recoil 65 stiff shaft. 21* of loft. Was delivered yesterday. Haven't had a chance to try it on the c...

Don't know where he played or if he played. Hell, I even forgot which guy it was who asked. I'll have to go back to my Team Titleist discussions history to refresh my memory.

JFish, you likely won't see as much benefit as those of us with a swing speed under 95 mph do. (But, don't worry. You'll get your SS down that low eventually. Like it or not. :P ) To really see a difference, turn the wind setting way up on your launch monitor and then compare the AVX to an MG or Pro...

Re: Bawlz

I play with a buddy who I turned onto MG-C4 balls. I gave him some I had kicking around a couple months back and he loved them. He thinks they are longer than anything he has ever played. (He was not playing Tour-level balls prior to the MGs.) We hit the ball about the same distance last year. Many...

The shoot is next week. Don't know what it is for, or even if they will use me in it. As far as I know, I am still on their list. The shoot itself is very much dependent on weather. My appearance is dependent on whether or not they decide they want/need me, which I have not yet heard. But, I was ask...

Re: 2018 Spring Support Group

My DryJoys are dry as a bone on the inside. However, the outsides absorb moisture. One thing you DON'T do is leave them inside your garage and expect them to dry. The air has to move. Some sun would help. I put two pair on the hood of my truck on Sunday morning which were heavily loaded with moistur...

Re: 2018 Spring Support Group

They are mowing rough twice a week. But, with all the rain, they can't keep up. I noticed on some holes today, in an effort to make sure they get to all holes, they are only mowing 20 feet or so from the fairway. The rest of the rough (further out than that 20 feet) is being passed over for now I gu...

This rough is killing me (and everyone else). This shot is from 10 feet off the fairway.

Re: 2018 Spring Support Group

Ah, Spring. Been raining here all week. Course is soaked, but finally turning solid green everywhere. Greens were aerated with huge holes 10-11 days ago and they are already healing up nicely due to the warm, sunny and rainy mix of conditions since. Another week or two and they will be back and in U...

Re: Southern Grasses

I hate Bermuda grass. Gets in my head. Bermuda rough mostly. Like you, most of my golf is played on bent grasses too. However, I play a lot in Florida over the winters due to my Mom and sisters and their families all living in the Sarasota area since the 90s. So I go there at least a week or two a y...

Re: Wedge Finish Choices

It was a pretty good launch monitor. The $30-50K kind used for professional fittings. Not a personal type LM. Could have just been an anomaly, but I have had other instances at different times over the years where I do not get consistent results. I do agree with you that I am not comfortable hitting...

Re: Wedge Finish Choices

Coincidence. I am ordering a custom-built 4 iron from Titleist today to fill my gap between 19H and 5i. Though I wouldn't call it a driving iron, as a 2i or 3i might be, it is 21* and will be used at times off long par 3s. I don't really need a driving iron otherwise, as my 3W and 19* hybrid usually...

Ah he's just mad I'm considering a TM driving iron not a Titleist.
Your loss. ;)

FYI, did anyone notice Webb Simpson over the weekend, Mr. Titleist brand ambassador himself, playing an M2 3W (with a Titleist 917F headcover)? I surely did.

Re: Wedge Finish Choices

No, not true beef. That's fake news. Alls I'm sayin' is that for ME, launch monitors mean diddley. What I actually see on the course in real life matters much more to me than any launch monitor results, particular about wedge play, and specifically less than full shots. Fish can rely on launch monit...

Re: Wedge Finish Choices

Now do it off real turf to see if it's as easy as you think. I don't believe anything I see on a launch monitor until I can verify it off real grass in real life conditions. I hit my 7 iron in real life 145-155 yards, CARRY. (I usually play it from 145-165, depending on lie and conditions.) Verified...

Re: 2018 Spring Support Group

Playing in a little rain with good FJ raingear far outweighs playing on a sunny, over-crowded golf course full of fairweather hackers. Those of us who rough it in all sorts of unfriendly weather out there, from cold and wind and snow and rain, IMO, should be rewarded come perfect days in the spring ...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

I bought a new Titleist Vokey SM7 58.12D in Tour Chrome to replace my SM6 58K (gray steel finish) a couple weeks ago. Liked it so much I replaced my SM6 54.10S last week with the same loft and grind in a new SM7. Both looked so nice in my bag that I finished off the set by replacing my SM6 50.08F wi...

Great story Doug, and although there is clearly some comedic value to the 2nd hole fiasco, I'm betting that you lament your decision to walk back to the ravine after exiting the 2nd green. You could've been free and clear! I'm sure once they got a new cart, they would have hunted us down and made t...
