Probably due to Irma sucking in all the high pressure as she went through. Typical for high pressure (low humidity) to fill in behind a strong, circulating low as it moves out. Enjoy it. It'll be humid again there soon.

Re: Hurricane watch

All my family is safe in Sarasota, though no power now. Hope your grandmother had no problems in Tampa, Jason.

That was a big one.

Re: Hurricane watch

Been in constant touch with Mom and both sister's families. They have a plan, of which I hope they heed to. Mom's house was built after Andrew, so has the upgraded building requirements instituted by the state. She is not in a flood prone area, about a mile inland from the bay. At least one sister a...

Re: Hurricane watch

I have family (Mom, 2 sisters, nephews, etc.) in Sarasota. I am not too worried about them, but this storm still has the potential to go up the west coast of Florida, so I too am keeping a close eye on things. It looks like my old friends in St. Thomas got battered. I have not heard much about Necke...

Re: Hurricane watch

Jason, keep an eye on this thing. If it turns north and misses FL altogether, the Carolinas and even Virginia may be in its sights. Probably not, but stay in tune. Are you near the shore?

Re: Hurricane watch

I have been in 20-25 foot rolling seas (with intermittent breaking waves) and 12 foot short, choppy, breaking seas. Rolling seas can be both scary and exhilarating at the same time. A short, 12 foot breaking sea can easily sink a boat if not handled correctly. Those are not fun. Wave size in general...

Re: Hurricane watch

Out of curiosity, how much lead time would be needed to outrun the hurricane, if at all possible? If you are talking about outrunning a hurricane on a sailboat, that's really difficult to say. Too many variables. Hurricanes and other low pressure systems don't always move where the forecasts expect...

Golf in NYC

This is primarily for Beef, but others might find it interesting as well. If you haven't seen it yet, the September issue of Golf Digest has a bunch of stuff about playing golf in and around NYC. I think you, Beef, might get something out of it. Many of the stories I read made me think of you. Give ...

Re: Hurricane watch

It's presently tracking right at my old home town in St. Thomas. I can only imagine what everyone is doing there right now. Tracking hurricanes, well actually low pressure systems forming off the coast of Africa, was our daily pastime during the summer months each day. All the yachties would hang ou...

Re: 2017 PGA TOUR thread

Stacy Lewis' donation was more impressive - her entire check. Kudos to her sponsor for matching as well. Of course, this magnifies the differences between PGA and LPGA - Stacy won $193k, DJ won $1.5M last week. That's the way you show your true compassion. $193K is a lot of money on the LPGA Tour. ...

Re: Strange Things During A Round

I have found unused, in the wrapper, condoms on the course. I always imagined the disappointment ... Well, since they're found on a golf course, it could just be a simple case of "premature release," which is quite disappointing when trying to score. A good instructor can fix that. ;)

Poured all day here too. Was hoping it would lighten up just enough to allow me to go walk nine, but not so much that anyone else decided to come out to play. I miss having the course to myself, like in winter.

Re: The Grumble Thread

one of the grounds crew whose primary job it is to mow the rough every couple days, had a major heart attack while on the job. Almost died. Luckily, the course had recently gotten a defibrillator and one of the foremen was able to get his heart restarted while the ambulance was on the way. Nice guy...

Re: Summer Support Group

Haven't played in 4 days. That's a long layoff for me. My wife left for the Jersey shore for a few days to spend time with her family and see her nephew's screaming kids. I stayed home to take care of my sweetheart pup. Plus I had no desire to listen to those kids for 4 days straight. I was planning...

Re: Solheim Cup 2017

I thought it was an exciting event. Was much more interested in watching it than the Wyndham PGA Tour event. Lexi's comeback today was awesome. My girl Paula came through. Some of the golf played yesterday and today at the Solheim was some of the best I have seen all season.

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Also how many times in a row do you have to make a putt after missing it the first time to take the lower score? I hit a wedge to 10' missed it then made 5 straight after that from the same spot. Is that a birdie? Sorry, no. But at least you know that your inner Player B is better than your real Pl...

Re: The Grumble Thread

I am hitting the ball with authority lately, but just cannot seem to score very well. Partially because I am trying to integrate a new move into my swing, but, I feel it's mostly due to extremely thick, nearly unplayable, deep rough. It is the most penal rough I have ever played. US Open-style, only...

How is it out there golfing in 2017? Do people still take fuckin' forever to play, like I remember? Yes Do they still dress like idiots? Yes Do they still zig-zag in their carts driving all around in seemingly every which direction except forward towards the green? Yes Do they still holler and dist...

Regarding my above post, I just counted my golf shirts. 55 hanging, 3 still in wrapper on shelf, and 5 in laundry. (I also have 14 others which are mostly cotton pique style which I rarely wear while playing, but I use for everyday general use and practice sessions.) Just so no one thinks I am exagg...
