Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Smooth 37. Back nine at Worthington. Only played nine today. Late afternoon start. Played from White tees, since it was 45 degrees. Had it working. Birdied the toughest hole on the back with 3W off the tee, then 6i to 8 feet. Hit 8 of 9 greens. 5 of 7 fairways. 3-putted par 3 15th from 6 feet above ...

Re: Autumn Support Group Thread

I did that once. Went to the hospital with the sliced off piece in a plastic bag with ice. They laughed at me. Played golf a few days later, albeit all bandaged up. Surprisingly, it all grew back in a few weeks.

Re: Autumn Support Group Thread

Oh man it's cold. I am not ready for this. Didn't even consider playing yesterday. Mid 30s and 10-15 mph wind. We had a hard freeze overnight. 20 degrees. That's freakin' winter! Today was a touch better. Got to 39* with 10 mph. Not interested in playing though, considering that there were more cars...

Re: Anything, Dog

Great news for the both of you! Actually for me too. I feel better now. I know it sounds crazy, but I was worried for your pup. As I said, I am a big sap. I saw the picture you posted of her and felt connected. I really am happy for you both.

Re: WTF did you buy today?

Picked up a dozen of the just released 2017 Titleist DT TrueSofts. It was cold this week and I could certainly tell my ProVs were not going as far off any club. They also felt really hard. So, it seems like a good time to put some TruSofts into play. I'll put the ProVs back in when I am in Florida l...

Re: Autumn Support Group Thread

I didn't even consider trying to see if Titleist would replace it. It was 100% my fault. I found a used one (which is supposedly in absolutely new condition, without a scratch or nick on it) in Arizona at a club pro shop for 80 bucks, with the Titleist Sure-fit adapter already in place. It's +1"...

Re: Anything, Dog

After reading your last, I got down on the floor and laid next to my pup and just hugged her. They are just so innocent.

Fingers crossed for you and your best friend, Jason.

Re: Anything, Dog

Man, I'm really sorry to hear that. My GoldenLab girl had the crutiate ligament (knee) surgery two years ago (at 5 1/2 yrs old) and watching what she went through was very hard for me. (I'm a big sap when it comes to my pup.) She healed nicely and has been fine since, but the chances of it happening...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

My three new AP3-718s just arrived from Titleist yesterday. Gonna give them a trial run today. Only 50 degrees forecast for the high, so not expecting great distance. But if all reviews I have read are true, I should see distances of about what I was getting with my present irons in 80 degree temps....

Re: Autumn Support Group Thread

Went to the range before my round yesterday. I finished up my range session with a couple short chip and pitch shots, then pulled my driver back out to re-loosen up before heading to the tee. I went to make some flat baseball-type swings and accidentally caught the shaft on a cast iron rod that was ...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

So today I bought two pairs of golf pants at Dick's Sporting Goods, each listed for $69.99, which after specials, free shipping and coupons, ended up costing me a total of $19.98 plus tax, for both pairs! That's less than 10 bucks a pair (not that any of you are that dumb that you need me to do that...

Re: Autumn Support Group Thread

Same conditions here. Low sunlight and long thick rough makes finding perfectly well hit shots often difficult. I'm actually a little annoyed at the superintendent right now. I walked nine to practice a few ideas late yesterday afternoon. I was trying alternate club choices on various shots and must...

Re: Autumn Support Group Thread

Gonna be 75 degrees here today. It was mid-50s yesterday. I walked nine for some practice time on the course, since there were only a handful of people out there. Looking forward to my distances being back to normal today, but not to the crowds that will ultimately show up for, what I expect to be, ...

Re: golf is hard

An older friend of mine who has leg cramp problems like you described suggested drinking straight tonic water when you feel like or have already started getting leg cramps. I'll file that one for later use. Thank you. Someone also suggested eating straight mustard. I have not tried that one and don...

Re: Random golf thoughts

3 hours of wet will not hurt a golf ball, unless all the pores in the cover plastic are open (like in boiling water). They pretty much need to be submerged for a long while to absorb moisture. It's a very slow process without heat opening up the pores and aiding the process. Balls sitting in a pond ...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

There is a 3* gap between the AP3 and AP2 7 irons. The new AP3s are "distance irons" in a player's iron look, and are numbered more like most Taylormade and Callaway irons. Quite strong-lofted relative to the number on the bottom, which TM has been doing for years to sell "longer"...

Re: Random golf thoughts

So...out of curiosity...have you ever tried boiling them in water to warm them? Not a good idea. The heating of them in water will allow the plastic cover, whether urethane or other, to absorb moisture, which can change the weight. The same thing happens to a ball sitting in a pond for a long perio...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

Special ordered my new Titleist AP3-718 5, 6 and 7 irons. Gonna play them alongside my existing AP2-716 7 iron, 8 iron, 9 iron and PW for a mixed set of players irons, and player-"looking" irons (with more forgiveness). May eventually get an AP3 4i too. Not thrilled with my XP90 shafts in ...

Re: golf is hard

Sorry, this turned in to a bit of a short story: I walked 18 one day this week for the first time in a long time. I had been playing well of late, though not necessarily scoring well, and playing a lot. So I needed a break on my cart fees for the week. I also thought it would be good for my game, si...

Re: Replacement shaft

It's a great shaft. I just bet there are some better ones for you. But, since it's the same shaft you have been playing, there should be no surprises. What setting are you on? If you are struggling with too flat a swing and overcooking a draw, you should probably be on B1, though that will not do mu...

Re: Replacement shaft

Jason, I don't remember which shaft you have in your 913 3W, but I am guessing it is a Diamana 72 (Blue board), stiff. If so, based on what little I know about your swing, but knowing you have a swing speed over 100 mph based on the distances you have indicated you can drive the ball, I would sugges...

Re: Random golf thoughts

Okay, so you know my trick about heating up golf balls on cold days and putting them in your insulated pocket on your golf bag? I've been using this technique for years. Well yesterday was the first time I thought I might need to do it this fall. It was in the low 40s overnight and I left my clubs i...
