Re: January Golf!

It's below zero right now, and yet I still harbor hope for playing later in the week. Yes, golf. Yes, outside. Yes, in New York. You just never know with the stupid weather these days. Supposed to be in the mid 40s here in Central MD on Wednesday, with rain. It's super cold right now. Feels below z...

Re: January Golf!

I have leather grips and although they were expensive, they're very durable and grippy. I don't think I'll have to replace them for a long time. Doug - have you tried leather? Maybe try one on a spare club or something. They install a little differently than rubber, btw. I have tried leather. I was...

Re: Last few holes at the Desert

If not for a less than mediocre putting day, Phil would have won by a lot. I enjoyed seeing him compete at 48 years old with guys half his age (and outdrive most of them). He said he was rusty. I hope I'm half that rusty when I can finally get back out there. In the end, Adam Long, played wonderfull...

On the afternoon agenda - clean clubs and consider replacing grips.
No consideration necessary. Just replace the things. You play enough. If it's been more than a couple months, it's time.

Re: January Golf!

Looks like you may be getting some snow yourself over the weekend. And, the forecast cold ain't good either way, so I'm glad you are getting out there again. I have a feeling it will be peaceful out there for you today.

Re: January Golf!

I am assuming you mean just the dog took a shit outside. But it read differently to me.

I'd play if I were you. You may just end up sharing the course with a cute young lady golfer. That wouldn't be all that bad.

Re: WTF did you buy today?

One of those three guys uses it for many different yardages. He just chokes down to whatever distance he needs. He sucks with his irons, but can put a 7W to 145 yards or 175 yards with ease. He has marks on his grip for where to place his hands for each distance. We all joke about every shot he hits...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

I know three guys off the top of my head who play 7Ws who feel they couldn't play the game without them. Very versatile alternative to a hybrid and easy to hit. High flight, soft landing.

Re: WTF did you buy today?

First off Gavin, let me say, I'm impressed with your distances. Jealous actually. Mine are shorter, for sure. Secondly, I have gone through these club-gapping dilemmas many times before. In fact, there always seems to be a gap somewhere bigger or smaller than I would like. However, I have realized t...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

3-4 times a year. You must have missed that part in my reply from above. I change driver and wedges at least one more time per year than I do the others. I also scrub my grips with a brush and soapy water every couple weeks. I use white (with black) MCCs on my wedges and short irons. So you can clea...

She dumped her high-level amateur golfer boyfriend, who evidently, was her connection to WM. She hasn't been seen here since. Still rooting for her though. I feel like she and I are buddies. Of course she wouldn't remember me from Adam.

I am aware, I just don't care. I'm a baseball guy. Always have been, so I don't care about this thread either. Was never into basketball. Well, never the NBA. I do watch some college games during March Madness and I admit, I kinda enjoy it. But I don't follow it otherwise. Now, if you wanna start a...

Re: Cold Weather and Hands

The FJ rain gloves need to be wet to work their best. The Wintersofts are noticeably warmer than both the rain gloves and regular cabretta. A little bulkier though, but much and doesn't affect the swing so much that you become overly aware of them. (For me anyway.) Particularly if you aren't a real ...

Re: Cold Weather and Hands

My Wintersofts have held up well. Not that I wear them that often, but I have had the same pair for at least 4 or 5 years. When I do wear them, they help, and I have no more problem with my grip than I do when wearing two regular cabretta leather golf gloves in cooler conditions. My Wintersofts stil...

Re: The New 2019 Rules

For anyone interested, who hasn't seen the latest test for putting with the flagstick in, My Golf Spy did an extensive one and came up with an opinion. I tend to agree with it, but will still be considering my options for each situation. Personally, I think very slopey greens adds a variable to the ...

Yes.

To me that would be using the rules to your advantage without making a mockery of the game by playing hockey, and I believe would have been universally accepted by all his peers.

Re: The New 2019 Rules

Yes, I did think Phil's move was a problem. That was pure disrespect for the game. However, there is not a player out there who does not try to use the rules to his advantage without disrespecting the game. Phil crossed a line. Dropping with hopes of getting a better lie is widely accepted throughou...

Re: The New 2019 Rules

That is called using the rules to your benefit. Anyone who plays golf competitively understands that this is expected and even encouraged. It's why knowing the rules is as important as knowing how to hit various shots. It is not cheating in any way to play the rules to your advantage. Period. Every ...

Re: The New 2019 Rules

One of the primary reasons for the drop from knee height rule is to limit the frequency of players getting to "place" the ball after the ball has rolled out of the drop on the first two attempts. From knee height it it less likely to do so, than from shoulder height. And, that is why it is not accep...

Re: The New 2019 Rules

I can't say that leaving the pin in will be a regular occurrence for me yet. I haven't played enough real life official golf with the option available to me to form an educated opinion. However, one thing I have always noticed when leaving the pin in for unofficial rounds is that the pin helps me fo...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

Actually, I didn't buy anything, but I received a nice surprise from Titleist in the mail. They send me things from time to time in appreciation for my contributions to their forums and my brand loyalty in general. Today I got a not-sold-at-retail TeamTitleist tee shirt. Along with it came a bag of ...

Re: 2018-2019 Winter Support Group

Thought it was ending yesterday morning, but it kept coming. Ended up with about 8 inches of snow. Though it never accumulated at a fast pace, it just kept snowing. From Saturday afternoon until late last night. About 30 hours, non-stop. It was a long, slow period of psychological pain and suffering...
