Re: Grocery Shopping & Corona Virus

Well, think about the 70 years old behind you that would like just one two-pounds bag of rice and can't find any because 5 guys like you went ahead and hoarded 10 2-pounds bag each. There were 43 other kinds of rice in stock. The aisle was far from empty. Ok, I get it. You are forgiven. Man, you ar...

Re: Grocery Shopping & Corona Virus

Just came back from a survival, I mean Costco, shopping trip. They now have senior hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the first hour of the day (8-9am). When I got there, around 7:40, the line of (old) folks with their carts was going on for about 3/4 of the whole building, and you know how big tho...

Re: Grocery Shopping & Corona Virus

Stupid question: doesn't being short of food lead to better handling being short of TP? I mean, there should be less need for it, no? :fk :facepalm Hard to say. You might still have X number of daily trips to the john, just less volume each time. Don't want to get too detailed but in my experience ...

Re: Grocery Shopping & Corona Virus

Well, we have a shelter in place order by the public health officials in 6 counties in the Bay Area, starting at midnight tonight, until at least April 7th. Only exceptions are to seek medical care, food or prescription. Some lines of work are exempted (public service and the like), but everyone, no...

You know what'd be great right about now? Watching some sports, on TV. :facepalm I'd even settle for college basketball at this point :facepalm Exactly. Give us something to watch while we shelter in place with our toilet paper and rice. And since there won't be any golf either, we'll have to settl...

Re: Grocery Shopping & Corona Virus

Wow! My wife just came back from the local neighborhood grocery store (Safeway), not one of the big stores like Costco and pasta, eggs, ground beef and TP were all completely out. Either there is some serious hoarding already happening or the stores can't adjust to any kind of increase in demand. We...

Re: Compact Discs

We had 5 banker's boxes full of them (2 rows of CDs on their edges in each box) and my wife found a local "store" that would buy them (I don't remember which: I'll ask her later). I think we got like $87 for everything. Not much, but better than a kick in the groin! :thrust ETA: The store in questio...

Re: When are you going to retire?

Which raises the question, "Would you want to know the year you were going to die?" It certainly would make retirement planning a bit easier. It would be easy to decide whether to take Social Security at 62, full retirement age or wait until 70. Unfortunately, some people do know (not thinking of a...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

I'll do that, thanks. That, and make sure you preset your wait forward for those chips. This is so you catch the back the ball and don't have to make any kind of weight transfer, which would be a difficult thing to time on such a short shot (the club is not going back parallel to the ground in the ...

Re: '19-'20 Winter Support Group Thread

There was some sort of icy glaze on the fairways. That's called frost . :lolz You California guys crack me up! I knew that. Heck. we have days with frost delays once in a while here, and when you show up at 11:00 for your tee time, there is still 5 groups ahead of you that couldn't start on time, b...

Re: The Grumble Thread

Against my better judgement I went out with my regular Friday group today (Black Friday) and what a clusterf*ck it was! We had the first twighlight tee time, which is also the first one when you are not getting raped with the green fees. I paid $33 to walk (instead of $28 on a regular Friday), so no...

I would not have asked to play through, I would have just gotten on the tee saying: "I am playing through". That is insane to have 3 players on the whole course and have to play behind these two!

I record pretty much all the PGA Tour action on my DVR and then watch some later or none, depending. As a matter of fact, I am watching yesterday’s first round right now: what a putting show by Tiger! Damn.

I am spellbound by Ken Burns's "Country Music" documentary on PBS. I am not even really a fan of country music. However its origin is one of the most beautiful fantastic tales I have ever heard and reaffirms my belief that music is a divine gift and a pure language of the soul. Also that Ken Burns ...

Turncoat that I am, I was cheering for the Euros to spank the USA. Mission accomplished. All looked to be lost when Europe had to take the last three matches outright in order to win. Nice ending for Europe and Suzann Pettersen. Ditto! But, I am originally European, so not completely a turncoat, ah...

DougE I feel I am on the same path as you, or maybe not. I was doing good on the front today (+2) with 2 bogeys on the tough last 2 holes of the front nine, then got par on a ho-hum par 5 after a good drive with the driver, and after that I couldn't drive to save my life for 5-6 holes. Left, right,...

Nadal's going to cruise to the title. There will be hardly time for butt picking. And Serena Williams is going to choke away another final. There's your 2019 US Open of Tennis. Or as Howard Stern liked to refer to it, the US Open Sores. #fts Well, at least half of that bold prediction came true! Yo...
