Re: WTF did you shoot today?

That is a very nice round @bkuehn1952. Imagine without the couple of doubles... [Yes, it can always be better, but I'd take that one every day, and twice on Sunday!] :claps :yess

Re: 2019 summer support group

@ DougE give it (the elbow) a rest, will you? I know how painful it is to be looking at your golf clubs in your garage and not being able to use them for an extended period of time, but I believe that is the wise course of action at this point, lest you make it (much?) worse... Take a few weeks off ...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Nice one bkuehn1952 ! I had a good one myself today. It's an easier course and I play with some old guys (well, they are older than me!) from the white tees, and it's par 70. But I shot a nice 72 (2 over), with 11 GIRs, 12 pars, 2 birdies and 4 bogeys. The round also included a shanked chip, a 3-put...

Re: 2019 US Open @ Pebble Beach

The Masters was a bit outside the norm, as they moved up the last round to avoid the weather that was worsening in the afternoon... I don't care at what time those events run, because I DVR them and watch them later, skipping all the commercials. I think I record pretty much every round of every PGA...

Re: the nyc golf thread

The polo shirt is the sartorial equivalent of the mullet hairstyle. An attempt to combine business and casual wear into one convenient item. I hate them and only wear them on the golf course, under protest. To each their own. I wear them nearly every day. They don't need dry-cleaning like a shirt an...

They look pretty good, if you ask me. You did good trying them: as you say, how can you not? :up :clapping Not for me though: I don't use gloves anymore and haven't for about 2 years now. Why pay for them, when you don't need them? Actually, what prompted me to try playing without is that my grip wa...

Nicely done @DougE .
I second that. Not only getting back in play but a tough bunker shot followed by a non-trivial putt to save the par. Well done! :thrust :yess

I have had some shanks (on pitches only) lately too. Probably coming a bit too much inside on the back swing. They sure suck! :puke Anyway, I have to report a round of 79 today (par 71), nothing special really until the last hole, a tad over 400 yards, a good 5 wood approach from the fairway (the ho...

Re: Weighted club

Checkout SuperSpeed clubs: 2 lighter than your driver and one heavier. Good for speed training as the name implies. Swinging a club upside down doesn't really help because it changes the mechanics (dynamics?) of the swing. I am not sure what the Orange (Red?! WTF) Whip really does in that regard: it...

Yup. It's fun to watch. At the same time I am amazed that there are answers (or categories even) that he doesn't know hardly at all, when I actually know those. It's that or he strategically decides to give himself a mental break and let his opponents put some points on the board. But that could bac...

Shot a smooth 105, 97 ESC (a couple of 9s and a couple of 8s, and a 6 on a par 3), in a tournament, no less. :bawl I couldn't drive out of my shadow and the putting was terrible too (38 putts). Add some 4 penalty strokes, a vicious and cold wind swirling in the canyons, easily worth 2 clubs and some...

I didn't feel any wind at all so I don't know. Ball seemed to kind of knuckle ball in mid-air.
Like srogers said, it's likely you couldn't feel the wind from the ground but it was there above the trees.

Re: Random golf thoughts

I assume you are right-handed (so fades and slices both go right). I think it happens when the ball can't stay in the air because it does not have enough spin vs it speed: back spin and air flow on the dimples is what provides lift to keep the ball flying. The result is that the ball gets knocked do...

A friend of mine just got an Olimar Trimetal 9 degree club from eBay for $30. It’s a club from the early 1990s. It looks like a 3 wood, with a small head even. So, it works from the deck too. He hits better, much better actually, than a modern driver, from a ball flight perspective. I tried it for s...

I definitely second Doug’s thoughts on this, but pay particular attention to his #1, weight preset forward. IMHO, this is critical. It took me literally years to figure out this simple concept, but when I did, my chipping improved a lot, seemingly overnight. Practice chipping standing on the front l...

Of course DougE and Beef are solid contenders and deserving of the win, but I’ll argue that Gobey’s 75 in 42F weather with wind and mud is a solid entry too and I’ll give him my vote. 👍
