Re: Airplane Seat Switching

Why didn't they ask a person on either side of that middle seat to trade with your window neighbor? They would have been closer together than everyone in one row.... SMH.

Re: Newly Cut Holes vs. Beat Up Holes

I believe Kuehn is right: sharp edges are more conducive to get the putt to fall in, especially in conjunction with the volcano effect that tends to develop on old holes due to people pulling their ball out with the putter, raising the edges above the ground surrounding the hole. Also, leaving the p...

Re: Autumn Support Group Thread

I did that once. Went to the hospital with the sliced off piece in a plastic bag with ice. They laughed at me. Played golf a few days later, albeit all bandaged up. Surprisingly, it all grew back in a few weeks. Yeah, I looked at the chopped off piece and my wife said: "should we try to re-att...

Re: Autumn Support Group Thread

I just sliced the top of my left thumb off, chopping salad. I have a flat spot now and it did hurt like hell: it's a bit better now, a day later, but I don't think I can hold a club. Bummer!

Re: Anything, Dog

Jason, are you familiar at all with TPLO, a surgery that changes the relationship of the tibia to the femur and repairs a CCL without replacing ligaments (you have to read up on it, it's hard to explain)? My dog had this done and while it was expensive, it was a great success. She also had a large t...

Re: golf is hard

Yup, water is crucial when walking. I drink at least 4 16oz bottles of water when I walk. On hot days, it can nearly double. Using a push cart makes the weight a moot point, but I refill my water bottle at the convenience stations spread around the course. I use a thermos type of bootle, filled with...

Special ordered my new Titleist AP3-718 5, 6 and 7 irons. Gonna play them alongside my existing AP2-716 7 iron, 8 iron, 9 iron and PW for a mixed set of players irons, and player-"looking" irons (with more forgiveness). Cool! Let's us know how you get on with them. Do you really plan on k...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

I shot a 76 today too, but I have to qualify it as it is a par 70 and I played from the white tees (just under 6000ft) because it was cold and windy. Well not really cold for you hearty folks from the northern climes, but it was the coldest day in quite some time here (since last winter), barely bre...

Re: Putting confessions

I agree. Same here. I used to putt with the line on the ball, but after remarking to my swing coach at GolfTEC that I was lipping out a lot of putts, he took one look and told me: you are lining up the line wrong, i.e. just outside the hole (for longish putts)! So, I had an aiming bias due to misali...

Re: golf is hard

I read somewhere a few years back when I was into that sort of things that using a push cart didn't vary that much in terms of calories spent in a round vs carrying a bag. There was indeed a difference like 1500 vs 1800 calories for an average course. Maybe more or less depending on the course. Eith...

Re: Post your pics of the courses you play

I may have to do it in installments though. Maybe a hole or two a week. I'll start on the 1st next chance I get. Pictures are easy. Writing the descriptions will take me some time. But I'm up for it if someone will read it. Doug, rest assured that I enjoy reading anything you write about, whether g...

http://golfweek.com/2017/09/14/commentary-evian-championship-needs-date-change-to-thrive/ This was the best decision, Whan said, to “have the cleanest, fairest competitive round that’s still going to finish on a Sunday with somebody jumping from an airplane with a flag behind them.” That last state...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

I played Poppy Hills on Saturday with my Associate Club (i.e. a club without a course). It's the home of the NCGA (NorCal GA) and has been renovated a couple or three years ago. It's a grreat course, with some notes of Pinehurst #2, with sandy areas and no rough at all: it's fairway cut all the way ...

All good points, Beef. I'm sure they (Sergio and all the others) haven't really thought this through completely. But it is patterned after what some consumers companies do in such instances: e.g., one $1 of each bottle of so-and-so sale will go to this-and-that cause... (up to a maximum of X, usuall...

Sergio has pledged to donate X dollars for every birdie and Y dollars for every eagle he makes in the Fedex, towards Hurricane Harvey relief. It strikes me as so weird to make a game out of this. Don't give me no crap about raising awareness. It's not like Harvey relief is some obscure cause that n...

Coolest and eeriest eclipse shot I have seen so far. Thanks, Beef. But you mean cooler than the corona showing around the blacked out sun, or the diamond ring shot? It was about 75% of disappeared sun here, and the light was eerie, not at all like when the sun goes down. I didn't have eclipse glasses, so I did the pinhole thing: it works with your hands doing the hashtag sign too, as you reduce the size of the holes... Then I spotted a strange set of shadows on...
