Re: 2018 summer support group

I'm in another funk. Too much golf I think. (12 of the last 14 days.) Starting to make some sloppy swings. Thin iron shots. Partially skulled a flop yesterday. Lost driver consistency and distance. Confidence falling. Too many freakin' people out there. Lots of waiting and rhythm breaking. The mid-...

Re: 2018 summer support group

Hearing about other people's summer funk makes me feel better. I am the opposite. Summer is the best time for golf, so it saddens me to hear it is not the best time for you. I personally am playing the best golf of my life right now, with only 2 rounds in the 80s (80 and 81) in the dozen of rounds ...

Re: 2018 PGA Tour Thread

The rule 14-5, like most rules, is not based on intent, just on an objective fact: hitting a moving ball results in 2 strokes. Simple.

Re: 2018 PGA Tour Thread

I disagree Mr Fish. The rule 14-5 says: ... must not make a stroke at a moving ball. Penalty is 2 strokes. It couldn't be more clear. The caveat in there is the part about see rule 1-2 for a ball purposely stopped or deflected by player or caddie. EXCEPT that rule 1-2 explicitly says if there is any...

Re: 2018 PGA Tour Thread

I think an even smarter move was to let the ball trickle off the green in whatever "impossible" spot and call an unplayable. It's only 1 stroke penalty, not 2. Then retry the original putt, this time knowing how fast it really is. That said, i don't object to his move or the USGA decision to not DQ....

Re: WTF did you buy today?

You did good giving your Contours (size 11) to that kid. I couldn't use them anyway (I need size 9). :) Yes, those Sports LT are super-comfortable and I wear shorts a lot (it's a California thing, I guess...), one more reason to not go with the DryJoys. I agree with you that they look good with pant...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

Wow! That is service. I would have never expected them to be covered after the kind of abuse (just heavy use, really) that Doug gives his shoes. So, Doug, what about my Contours? Are they sending me a free pair too? Cuz' I wore them pretty good after nearly two years... and now can't find them for s...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

Understood. The benefit the first time is to not have to deal with solvent and to be able to do it simply, without paying someone (at the expense of a bit of time to clean the old situation up).

I use my electric tire pump that plugs into my cigarette lighter in my truck. An air compressor is over kill and will probably cause a higher likelihood of damaging the grip.

The tire pump was $25 so break even is about 8 grips.
Thanks! Good tip. I may have to look into getting one of those.

I'm in beefs boat. Why pay $3 to someone per club when blowing a grip off then on with air is so easy?

Guess I'm just cheap
Perhaps. I don't have an air compressor and would probably have no use for one other than regripping club? How long before I would break even?

Re: WTF did you buy today?

So I went to a Golf Galaxy to look at shoes in person and try a few pairs. I didn't look at just FootJoy by the way. The Nike Lunar 2 looked pretty good and were on sale at just under $100: they just didn't have my size and color so I would have to order them online (no big deal). The Adiddas don't ...

Re: 2018 summer support group

That's an odd one. I have never had that happened to any of my clubs or seen to anyone's club. I had a 5 wood head fly out from a regular tee shot once though, and they (Cobra at the time) replaced it. Send the dinged club back ASAP: the summer is young. You'll have it back (or a new one) in no time...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

Thanks Doug. I have worn brown shoes in the past (either all brown or with the brown stripe), but these days, I feel like I need either all white or all black. Yes, those DryJoy Tours look nice, but as you say, there are close to $200. I don't know, I may have to bite the bullet... or go to another ...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

I have been using FootJoy Contour shoes for as long as I remember and even bought some pairs before I actually needed them, in fear that I may not find them in the future. Guess what? That day has arrived. I am on the last legs of my last pair and for some unknown reason, Footjoy is not making them ...

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month

This past Monday, during my best round ever of 71 (+1), the 2nd birdie came on a 440yds par 4, downhill. A good tee shot to the middle of the fairway left me with 205 yards to the flag which was towards the back of the green. I nutted a 5 wood with a slight fade and the ball stopped about 3 feet beh...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Backed up yesterday's 78 with a 79 today. 42/37 which included two penalties on the back, and a little bad luck on the front. Solid golf right there, especially on that tough course of yours with 2 penalties! I had a 79 myself today but it's an(other) straightforward course. I did nothing spectacul...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

I scored my best round ever today: 71 on a par 70 course that is fairly straightforward but with some tricky greens. I played from the back tees (6200 yards) as usual here, with 3 birdies and 4 bogeys: I only hit 7 greens in regulation but made 7 of 11 up and downs, and needed only 26 putts (10 1-pu...

Re: Reduced flight balls closer than we think?

The problem is that the average man's drive is 205 for amateurs (all ages and handicaps combined), I remember reading somewhere, so if you take 20% off, it would become 164 yards. Forget even playing 6000 yar Tough titties. :nope I actually read that the average distance in 1996 was 200 yards and 2...

Good point, it was fairly crowded. But even on my non-golf days, out in the world, I notice it. Whooosh. All the time.
You might notice it more simply because you are more of a golfer, ie thinking in terms of golf even when you are not playing or practicing. I know I am one of those people....

Re: 2018 PGA Tour Thread

Did you guys hear about the RBC Heritage tournament over the weekend? Of course you didn't! That's because an unknown Japanese and a barely-known Korean played off for the title. :gay Yes I did. And the barely known Korean had won the Players (was it last year or the year before, I can't remember)....
