Re: Too many clubs. What would you do?

Yes I'm a huge fan of bounce. Like I said in the "southern grasses" thread I grew up with high bounce wedges from a necessity. When I was young I really liked playing around with flop shots. I thought they were so neat. I only had a 56* wedge at the time but I could open that thing up and hit it ove...

Re: Too many clubs. What would you do?

I meant to respond to your april post. Instead of trying to get room for a 62/08 wedge, why not just grind off some of the heel of the 58? This will help reduce the bounce when it's open. Also have you tried a 62 degree wedge? I have tried a 60 at one point and I really hated it. I went back to 58 b...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Played 4 holes before work today. On the first 2 holes I could barely hit the golf ball. I hit a drive that was <100 yards. I shanked a pitch. I missed twice into the giant red X's that I'd mark on those holes. These are the 2 easy holes of the 4 hole rotation (heck probably the 2 easiest on the cou...

Re: Bawlz

Doug I'm just pulling your leg, it's nothing personal. I need to remember sarcasm doesn't type well. Now as it pertains to balls, to me it's not just a matter of "does it perform better." There is a cost/benefit to weight for me. To be fair this is something everyone weighs, as I doubt you'd pay $1,...

Re: Bawlz

I play with a buddy who I turned onto MG-C4 balls. I gave him some I had kicking around a couple months back and he loved them. He thinks they are longer than anything he has ever played. (He was not playing Tour-level balls prior to the MGs.) We hit the ball about the same distance last year. Many...

Re: Bawlz

I saw some AVX balls for sale at the pro-shop this morning. I think I'll buy a sleeve of them to compare to the MG C4 on the launch monitor, I can check out distances and spin rates and see if there is any objective difference in the 2. See if they are worth 2.5x the money? I expect at that price I'...

Yeah nothing was dry on Thursday. There were ducks swimming in the FW during one of our "rain breaks" we took.

Re: 2018 Spring Support Group

So with all this water my dryjoys aren't dry. They have sat in the garage since Thursday when I played in the rain. I expected them to dry out over the weekend, but I guess all the rain has kept the humidity around 175% making it hard for them to "air dry". Doug how do you dry out golf shoes that sh...

Re: Just Keep Swimming

So I read about super speed training. It involves heavy and light clubs. But essentially you just focus on swinging as fast as you can w/o hitting the ball. Since shortening my swing I've noticed my ball speed drop from 155ish to 145-150. But I was making more solid contact so it was going as far or...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Played a 4 person scramble today. On and off we got through 9 holes after it was decided to shorten it to a 9 hole tournament. Played 3-4 of those holes in massive rain. We won with a score of -7. After 5 holes it was decided to shorten it to 9. We were offered to "par out" if we wanted to turn in t...

Re: Reduced flight balls closer than we think?

I agree. I'd like to see something that compares club head speed over time.

Even though that isn't something you'd be able to get good historical data on.

Re: Southern Grasses

I grew up on bermuda grass. It took me a long time to get use to bent grass. To this day I prefer bermuda. Reading the grain is super easy, bermuda grows with the slope. So up hill is into the grain down hill is with the grain. This sucks when you are chipping/pitching on an uphill lie. But if you r...

Re: Reduced flight balls closer than we think?

I was bored and wrote this response... I have mixed thoughts. When I play golf with other recreational players the thought of "man these guys hit it too far" never crosses my mind. Most of them need to hit it further not shorter. I have worked hard on my game and I'm to a point where I feel distance...

Re: Wedge Finish Choices

Also I went to the driving range this morning just to verify I could hit a draw SW 115-120, and a punch PW the same distance. I was successful except the SW was just the tiniest of draw not really a 5-10 yard draw. I mean I could make it draw that much but it got much less consistent. I was able to ...

Re: Wedge Finish Choices

Sorry for the Doug-esque post. So there are 2 different type of LM's. Radar and photo-metric (camera based). I did a lot of research before pulling the trigger. Hell I think my 2017 goals on this site said to get a LM for my house. The radar based ones are great if you have a lot of room to work wit...

Re: Wedge Finish Choices

What type of launch monitor are you using? I mean I don't have that happen with skytrak and it's the cheapest one (well other than mevo, and optishot). It does occasionally happen but that is when it doesn't pick up the spin correctly, and it's super noticeable. Like a SW going 145 yards and having ...

Re: Wedge Finish Choices

But really to dougs point. I have a lot of data that I'm able to cross reference between launch monitor data and on course data (game golf). I tend to make decisions from data. I've been kicking around a handful of ideas in the last 6-12 months. One is getting a 2i, to be fair I've always had this i...

Went and played putt putt with the wife and son yesterday.

My son made 3 hole in 1's on 16, 17 and 18. I proceeded to ask for a paternity test.

Re: Wedge Finish Choices

Ok so I messed around with the launch monitor and can drop my gw and fill the gap with my PW and sw already. I really only used my gw for 110-120 yard shots. I can hit a really consistent draw sw that carries 115. I can also choke up and hit a PW the same yardage 115-120 when the flag is on the righ...

Re: Wedge Finish Choices

Does anyone know if it's possible to strengthen the loft on a wedge and grind the sole in a way that you don't lose any effective bounce after bending it? I am really close to pulling the trigger on the 2i, and my plan was to drop my PW (my gaping between GW, PW and 9i is kind of tighter than other ...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

Has anyone bought anything from fairway golf USA?

I am seriously considering the P790 2i sight unseen. It worries me a little because it's supposedly new but cost is about $50 less than I could get it direct from TM.
