Re: WTF did you buy today?

The wife has been wanting a new fan in my golf room. Looks like thanks to my lunch break she'll get her wish. WHAT HAPPEN So when I swing my mat slides forward a fraction of an inch. Typically the light is directly above my head (9 to 10 feet off the ground) which makes it way out of the swing arc....

Re: Getting out of a slump

I feel like clubproguy accidentally provided some good advice. Although my thought is firing my arms right after transition, not at impact.

Flip it.

Re: Getting out of a slump

So after warming up, I decided to hit back to back drives. The first one I tried to flip, cast and basically just get the club head to the ball before my hips started releasing. The second one I tried to "release my hips first" like you hear all the time. Also my goal was to hit them as hard as poss...

Re: On the golf DL

I'm glad yours is good. The one below is the CCE mat. It's basically top of the line and a 5' x 5' goes for north of $500 (well I think it's $399 at costco). From my research about half of the people get elbow/wrist injuries and half are fine. Probably related to shallow v vertical swing planes. It'...

Re: On the golf DL

Glad to see you are getting better. I know you said your mat is fine because it's a good one, but there are 2 things that cause issues from a mat. One is ground force due to bad padding, this is typical for cheap mats. The other is thick artificial grass that grabs the club head when you "take a div...

Re: Getting out of a slump

First I completely agree with starting the downswing with the arms. For me it's a thought of throwing the trail elbow at the ball. What I meant was the only way to physically"cast" a golf club is if you are in a stuck position. If your arms are in front of your chest it's pretty much impossible to f...

Re: Getting out of a slump

Let's be clear though "flipping" is the effect of a bad swing, not the cause. It's damn near physically impossible to flip your wrists if your arms are in front of your chest while rotating. You can only do it if your arms are way behind, or something else is out of sync. So there is no point in "fi...

Re: December Golf!!!

I hate to say it, but sometimes tendinitis is a long recovery period. I did a lot of research before buying a mat to hit balls off, because a lot of them cause elbow/wrist tendinitis. The recovery times for some of the people were pretty long with no golf activity (3-6 months). I hope that you heal ...

Re: Getting out of a slump

I love that drill when I get stuck, have you ever tried to intentionally cast and get it on video? I can't actually cast and flip the wrists, when I try it just looks like a well synced up swing.

I'm so jealous, although there is no chance someone is playing today in Virginia Beach. I'm getting to be about done with the bathroom remodel. Luckily there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Re: Bawlz

*note on temp reference, the balls are room temp and the ball temperature has more affect on distances than ambient temp. Ambient temperature has damn near 0 noticeable affect on shot characteristics (it's less than 1% difference in 20 degrees of temp). I've tested this when bored before, stat nerd...

Re: Bawlz

To be clear I completely agree with this. What i do use my simulator for is to tell me what I should expect 67% (1 standard deviation) of the time when I hit my 8i. That is a shot that carries 157 yards and is slightly right of "center" with a dispersion of around 20 yards. It's an elliptical dispe...

Re: Live music--what is it good for?

I wonder what the kiss farewell tour will cost? I'm not interested but keep hearing it advertised on the radio because they will be at the amphitheatre about 2 miles from my house in August. Depending on wind direction we can usually sit on our deck and hear everything clearly when the concerts are ...

Re: Bawlz

I don't know. I think you just give yourself a pass/fail grade based on some guidelines.

Then you have some data around the ability to stay in the right state of mind or something like that. I'm sure it's not perfect but data > no data in my mind

I just got back from playing. Hit the ball okay, but wasn't real sharp. This discussion must have been in my head. Is there a program that can take THAT into consideration?
I believe decade golf has a mental score card. It's too expensive for me to do it, but I am impressed with what I see.

Re: Bawlz

Also to be more clear, that blue dot is where I want my ball to end. Given I typically hit a cut that moves about 5ish yards my "start line" is barely going over the top of the left fringe. There are 3 trees behind the green about 50 yards back, my start point is the left tree behind the green. I've...

Re: Bawlz

Sorry Doug, you are right and I was being very general with my statement. What I really meant was that a good golfer would know what their personal dispersion is from various distances and play a shot that makes the most since for that dispersion. For example the average PGA tour player's dispersion...

Re: Bawlz

So I'm looking for the data to extrapolate. I'm trying to find it for a scratch golfer and have only found it for a 14 handicapper so far. But from 100 yards a 14 handicap can expect to be within 30' from the hole. From 135 yards they can expect to be 53' from the hole. Given most greens are around ...
