Re: The significance of wrist hinge/set/cock

Some golfers supinate thru impact, others (like Zach Johnson), hold off the release. I'm not sure that it's possible to pronate through impact. You'd hit the ball with the sole of the club instead of the face. That is typically what happens. Keep in mind that the normal tendency due to the arch of ...

Re: Membership opportunity at my club

Are you people even considering the numbers? Douge is not some dead beat trying to live beyond means. Someone willing to spend this type of money on a hobby without having the means available to back it up is taking a risk IMHO. I would suggest to find a cheaper course and not waste money on carts....

Re: The significance of wrist hinge/set/cock

Pronate and Supinate refer to the direction your wrist is rotating as it travels through the impact zone. Ben Hogan does an excellent job explaining it in his book. If you are properly supinating, it means that the club head is rotating counter-clockwise through the impact zone from the vantage poin...

Re: What are you getting/did you get for Christmas

I typically (always?) wear the Countour series. I also typically rotate out at least two pairs because my feet sweat. Seriously, though, I have cycled through quite a few pairs of FootJoys over the years including the Dry Joys. My experience is that the Contour Series is more comfortable *and* is mo...

Re: Membership opportunity at my club

Here is my take. Debt is a tool. If used properly, debt should be used to make or save money. If you were to put the $7,500 on your credit card and amortize if over the full five years of the membership at an interest rate of 19%, you would be looking at $195 a month for a total payment, when all is...

Just noticed that the festive lights have rendered the search box unusable at this time. Oh well. Small price to pay for a merrier Christmastime.
The search box still works for me (using Chrome atm).

Re: The significance of wrist hinge/set/cock

I like what Doug has to say. I know I commented in depth on this on your last forum post, but I think it really does bear to be repeated as often as possible. When I stopped playing, wrist hinge was the primary thing I was working on. I still remember my last golf lesson where the instructor tried t...

Re: Forum Software update

Glad everyone likes the Christmas decorations. Another nice improvement is with the instagram embedding. So now when you want to embed a stupid Michelle Wie post, like this https://www.instagram.com/p/BcQhAYfDC-w/?taken-by=themichellewie now you get the vapid comment to go along with the attention ...

Re: While on the Subject of Travelin' Golf

Well, when I lived in North Dakota, I used to make a trip south every Spring to find the snow-line so I could get in a round before everyone else. One year, I drove to Tulsa. I don't think that counts, though, because I always tried to book at least two rounds. As fate (and the weather) would have i...

The falling snow is trippy, too. I almost didn't notice it. I thought there was something wrong with my eyes.

It's a lot like driving down the freeway in the middle of a snow flurry when you're tired.

Re: How far do you have to travel to your home course?

When I lived in Fargo, I was within walking distance of my home course. It was close to a mile, though, and with clubs, I typically drove. I was within walking distance from work on my regular practice course. There are two nine hole executives in Fargo that have excellent layouts (including a chall...

How long has it said "Roll over, Ben Hogan?" at the top? Because now I'm going to have Chuck Berry stuck in my head all day. The first bulb I broke scared the shit out of me. I have to disconnect the surround sound. It sounded like one of the cats got into something, and I spent a good 10 minutes tr...

:lolz That's a good grumble and I can imagine being in that situation. That is just like people. In an empty bus, choice to sit anywhere, some idiot will always pick a seat near yours. Lately I've been having some serious grumbles about the way people ride escalators. What is up with that? I feel t...

Re: The Tiger Thread

I would ordinarily say that when the president calls, I do his bidding. With Trump, it's difficult. It's not because I don't like the guy, either. It's because people around him have a funny way of becoming scapegoats. I want nothing to do with Trump, but it's more out of fear than anything else. He...

I"m gonna have to say "no". I usually fly Southwest. I have been A-List Preferred most of the last few years. I occasionally will fly Delta or American. Either way one looks at it, I've either worked hard or I have paid extra for the seat I pick. Let's get one thing clear. I freaking hate flying wit...

Re: Newly Cut Holes vs. Beat Up Holes

Ha, I always thought that volcano effect was caused by people who stand right next to the holes to get their ball out. Their weight is essentially compacting the ground around the hole but not the lip given most people know not to stand on the hole. Maybe it's a combination of these things? I never...

Re: Newly Cut Holes vs. Beat Up Holes

I completely agree that having the pin in helps in a lot more cases than it hurts. However, when it comes to the old and worn out hole placements, the only thing that I believe would hamper the ball from falling in is the volcano effect that you mentioned. I'm actually kind of convinced, though, tha...

"Keep your head down." Worst swing advice ever. I used to have a terrible chili dip on my swing. It developed because I concentrated so hard for so long on trying to keep my head down. People were always saying "you lifted your head". What was actually happening is that I was dipping down and then l...
