Re: January Golf!

Was able to sneak in what is probably one last January round today. Will be 60 tomorrow but big rains expected. After that the forecast for the next two weeks is quite cold. I was just getting used to this southern living thing. Total mud fest again today but I think I'm learning how to strike it be...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

So much depends on what feels good to you. I play Golf Pride MCC grips in Midsize. They may feel nice if you like a bit wider diameter. I actually have been playing these for years, but the new MCC +4 grips are starting to appeal to me. The lower hand portion is like having 4 extra wraps. Overall i...

Re: The New 2019 Rules

I think this data is consistent with the other two major studies I've seen. The issue or key is speed - at the right speed, the pin isn't going to make a huge difference. At the wrong speed, it makes a huge difference. When are you more likely to have the right speed - shorter putts. When are you mo...

Re: The New 2019 Rules

I agree with the above. I think it will help more than it will hurt to have the flag in (in all situations). That being said I also think the frequency of someone hitting the flag stick on a putt that otherwise would not have gone in and the flag stick either 1) making it go in or 2) making it a cl...

Re: The New 2019 Rules

Only 3 rounds into the year, 1.5 of them solo but I find things working out like this on the putting / flag rule when playing with others: 1. Long putts, leave it in 2. Short putts, take it out 3. Medium putts - could be either The funny thing is this - my casual observation is that this is what I'v...

Re: 3rd Annual Frozen Balls Challenge - 2018-2019

Still don't know the rules and not wanting to win and have to deal with the trophy, but went out today at 42 degrees - colder than my norm but yesterday was washed out and next weekend doesn't look good so I thought I'd give it a try. Really wasn't too bad until last 4 holes when the wind kicked up....

Re: 3rd Annual Frozen Balls Challenge - 2018-2019

Looks to be a two way race between LB and DougE. Both are golf maniacs when it comes to marginal weather. Gbogey has been kind of quiet as have several other potential contenders. We are not even going to consider the left coasters and our southern brethren, who think 50 degrees is hardship golf be...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

I think the Freestyle used to be the M Project which was a great shoe and what I mainly wear today. Sadly they are worn out which is why I got two new pairs for Christmas. I would have stuck with the Freestyle but the only styles that I could find were a bit too flashy for my conservative tastes.

Re: 2019 PGA Tour thread

Best thing I heard during the tournament was Bryson saying "how did that bounce left when it slopes right 5 degrees." I've said that many times, without the 5 degrees part.

Re: Your All Time Easiest Hole?

#15 on my current home course Links at Galloway - according to SG 4.6 average. In 19 rounds, 2 bogeys, 7 birdies, and my only real par 5 eagle. Only hole I've ever had a below par average. I now consider this hole a total birdie/par guaranteed. Almost blew it yesterday - chunked 3rd shot from 40 yar...

Re: Skygolf360 - RIP???

I totally stoped using SG360 for any stats a while ago, really was just using it to record rounds. Also pretty easy to use Ap to keep score while doing a casual round. All my real stats are going to Shot By Shot. Haven't been doing much comments so Grint works for me. Need to start recording positiv...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

One of those places where I need an attitude adjustment so I'll get it out there. Played twice this weekend - two courses, very similar course ratings. Shot 77 on Saturday, +6, and was pleased. Shot 78 yesterday, +8 and was unpleased. What's the difference: Saturday was a course that I don't think f...

Re: January Golf!

Found this on a website today so maybe this confirms it: When the greens are soft, your ball is going to dig into the turf more than it would normally. If you’ve got a good amount of spin on the ball, it’s going to grab and bite, and often spin back a fair bit. You can even expect longer clubs like ...

Re: January Golf!

I think I was thinking about it wrong but Doug’s reply made me see why. The ball will back up more on wet greens probably because wet grass Acceps the spin, not because the club face or ball is wet. Therefore wet grass should accept spin on chips more than dry grass, causing the ball to check up. Ma...

Re: January Golf!

I planned well. Went out just before the temp got to 50 - lots of 3's and 4's behind me but I was done in 3 hours. Funny how normally I'm a pretty social golfer, especially on weekends, but during winter golf season I just want to have fast solo rounds. Course was a total soggy mess but it was sunny...

Re: Putting out of longish grass

I've tried this when the distance is not long to the hole, say 5 feet. I'm usually successful getting on the green but not very close. If any distance is involved, I'm more likely to go hybrid putt, especially I'm finding this useful on Bermuda grass.

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Shot an 82 today, which is my best score to date. Also had personal bests in FW% (79), GIR%(56), # par or better(11), etc. 2nd consec round not losing a ball. Been hitting the ball quite well, and my putting is decent now. My short game remains the glaring weakness, just needs work. It's no longer ...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Left yesterday. got back from FL today. Pulled in the driveway at 1 pm. Unloaded the car, put everything away and went to the course. Teed off at 2pm for a quick nine. Elbow killed me, shoulder sore, 45 degrees out, cart path only, just drove 18 hours, and I'm all packed in ice again now, but heck,...

Re: December Golf!!!

You know it's December golf when you pick your spot on the tee box by finding a spot that is less squishy than the rest as opposed to picking your spot based upon the drive position you desire. Really wet and muddy out there. One more round likely on Sunday to finish 2018.

I am playing December golf, I just do not have to suffer to play it.
Somewhat the same - temps aren't bad (high 40's / 50's) but wetness of courses is. Hope to get two more rounds in before 2019.

Re: WTF did you buy today?

Got a pair of Footjoy SL, a pair of Footjoy DNA Helix, and a new Footjoy Wind Vest for Christmas. Very pleased with what I picked out for myself and had Santa deliver. Unfortunately, I have doubles of the items and have to figure out which set is easiest to return. Unknown by me, even when you fill ...
