Re: Random golf thoughts

45 degrees has become my benchmark here - it's too damp so 40 here is colder than 40 in NJ. Forecast has us in the 70's this weekend and then two weeks of 60's. Looking forward to wearing pants to play.

Re: Random golf thoughts

Revision yesterday and I'm down a full point to 14.3. Congrats - you've been playing awesome. I was excited by my latest revision at first - 5.2, lowest ever - until I realized that without the combo round (two rounds shortened to 9 holes by weather) I'd be 5.8, which isn't my lowest ever. At least...

Cool! It's on my list and I will get there someday, but not likely to be free.

85 today. As good as I putted yesterday the opposite was true today. Seven 3 putts. Pathetic.
Know the feeling - didn't make anything today.

Re: The Grumble Thread

Don't get me started. I cannot even begin to understand the muni golf course management here. For starters, I get to the course to find out it's backed up by a "tournament", which is really a corporate outing. Eight tee times of scramble golf ahead of us. From what I could see at least 1-2 persons i...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Round 2 went much better. First, the pre-tournament info was wrong. It was played at this course from my normal blue tees, not the very long gold. So my gold tee fretting and practice was a waste, except it helped my hybrid game and I made 3 very good hybrid shots during the round. Started first 8 h...

Re: 2019 summer support group

DougE Have to ask have you had any body or physical changes lately (of course there's the elbow)? Whenever I go through a period like yours (although usually not as severe), there's usually a body change -sore knee, torn finger ligament, or the number one cause is when my weight goes up to top of m...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

First day of tournament – crazy up and down day. First, for some reason day one was being played from the Gold tees – I think because this is a senior event. These are 600 yards SHORTER than my normal tees at this course, so I needed to shoot 74-75 or better to be a good round. Really rough start – ...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Complete confidence buster yesterday - played my home course which will be round 1 of the tournament. Driver totally abandoned me and I got off to the worst start possible. Through 5 holes I was +7 and had more topped shots (3) and tossed clubs (3) than fairways or GIRs (0). Not sure how many f word...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Thanks for the encouragement DougE . To be clear I have no pretensions of winning the tournament - there's going to be a few guys who can reach all the par 5's in two although it's possible that those guys will be in the 50-54 age group. But I've been playing well and particularly well on these two ...

Nothing like 97* on September 28th.
98*?
95 today with a feels like 99 - we had a 3 day break a week ago with feels like high 80's, but otherwise September is as hot as August.

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Had one of those can't believe what happened today things. So I've entered a tournament for next week as I want to test my game. Mind you, this is only my 2nd official tournament (I entered 2 others cancelled by rain). The issue as I said a few weeks ago is that even though it's a senior tournament ...

Re: 2019 summer support group

It's in your head. You have the game. No question. Fully aware of that - just can't figure out how to get over it. It's not the lack of scrambles, but the blown opportunities that lead to silly bogeys or even double bogeys and it seems to be all short game related. I've also decided that the course...

Re: 2019 summer support group

Play it more. You'll get better at it, and likely your whole game in general. Playing tough courses really taught me to play the game at a higher level. So I went back today. Somehow things happen here that don't elsewhere. Pars on first two holes which is strong for this course. The 3rd gives me p...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Trying to decide how to make sense of last night's 9 hole outing. I usually play this course +2-+3 pretty consistently. However, I want to enter a tournament coming up and one round is from the back tees - +400 yards to my normal. So I decided to play 9 from back/gold. Didn't go well. My driver aban...

Play it more. You'll get better at it, and likely your whole game in general. Playing tough courses really taught me to play the game at a higher level. Re: 2019 summer support group

It is almost Fall and it is still hot as blazes here - real feel last week and going forward is over 100. Yesterday seemed as hot as any day all summer. Decided to walk and got really wiped out. Bad enough on the short par 5 15th, I hit two really pretty shots to get on the green. As I'm standing ov...

Re: 2019 LPGA Tour

Would love to see some real data, but it appeared to me that the ladies were much less generous at conceding putts than the men at Ryder Cup, but it also could have been a last day thing.

Re: 2019 summer support group

I really enjoy the cold weather golf. Specially right after the first gold snap, the ground isn't muddy the grass is still grass. But I like it not because of the cold, I like playing golf fast. I've come to the opinion there is no reason for a round to take more than 4 hours assuming it's 4 people...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

I feel that I have to remind you that I’m typically playing a 6050 yard par 70 114 slope. My 74 is comparable to Doug’s 78/79. Regardless my play has been really strong the last six weeks and that’s with sub normal putting. Don’t know if this is the “mother of all hot streaks” or if I am mysteriousl...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

So bad, so good. How bad was my putting today? Seven good looks at birdie, only one birdie. Three 3 putts, two of them ugly from only 25 feet putting uphill. Argh! How good was my ball striking? 15 GIR's with 7 good looks at birdie, and with the 3 misses coming from a bad wedge (but only one of many...

Re: Pre-Release (g)rumblings of new Titleist irons

My intent was not to degrade Titleist in favor of Bridgestone. I actually wanted to compare the RX/RXS but couldn't get any RXS without buying a box of 12. But for some reason I've always preferred and seemed to get better results with Bridgestone (they were also the first yellow ball in a tour ball...

Re: Pre-Release (g)rumblings of new Titleist irons

Based upon the article I linked and something else I read lately, I also bought a sleeve of Pro V1X yesterday to try out. I doubt if I want to give up a few yards distance and perhaps increase fairway spin for more stopping power, but it's worth a look. So I went for my after work nine last night a...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

I have had a mini recovery from what seems like a 2 year slump. Shot a 78 at my "home" course today. https://clubsg.skygolf.com/golfers/score.php?c=20612&viewHole=1&mode=tracked&id=23177004&rid=1936786&loadHoleSelector=0 I do not recall ever parring every hole on a nine. There may be some hope left...
