Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Friday was supposed to be my last day but my wife changed her plans yesterday and so she suggested that I go out one more time. Pretty decent 78 but the highlight was the two birdies. Left a wedge short on the 1st hole but sank a 35 foot putt for bird. Left another wedge way short (happened several ...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Been going through a very strange phase. Last 3 weeks I've played 14 times. I'd have to classify 7 of those as really putrid for my level. I few mediocre rounds but I really didn't hit the ball solidly at all, and 3 rounds which have been absolutely fabulous. Go figure. Really nice 76 today to close...

Re: driving range confessions

Guilty to both at various times. My other problem is, "how do you leave balls that you could hit at the range?" So yesterday I went to the range wanting to hit about 60-70 balls. Of course, the smallest bucket is 50 balls and the next up is 90, so I bought 90 swearing that I would leave be...

Thanks - I changed out shafts today at the range and I think it works pretty well as long as I choke down.

Hybrid Fix

For you who know more about gear than I do. I have a Cobra 3-4 Hybrid that is adjustable from 19-22 degrees. Unfortunately the shaft broke the other day. I looked a little online for a used replacement, and have thought about seeing if Cobra would have a replacement shaft. I really like the club and...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

So two days after shooting 3 miserable rounds in a row, especially the 3rd (what I didn't mention is that I stopped counting strokes when I maxed at DB so the 90 was really about 95) I shot a really terrific 76. The score doesn't tell the whole story - not knowing the course was a factor in 3 of the...

9th.JPG 17th.JPG 18th.JPG Not sure these do the view justice, but pictures from the course that my mom lives on in the NC mountains. Mountain Views are great. These are the tee boxes for the 9th, 17th, and 18th holes, all par 5's. All 3 holes drop severely. To give you an idea, the 9th is listed at...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

I was in Virginia early in the week but now am in the NC mountains. I usually play Bridgestone 330 RX and picked up some Callaway Chromesoft yesterday which is what I used to play before switching to Bridgestone. Part of this is my affinity and ability to see yellow balls better, but also have norma...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

My swing and game have been an absolute wreck this week, particularly off the tee. Monday 3 fairways and 2 unplayable drives for an 85. Felt so bad about my driving I went to the range afterword. Of course I felt like I had the situation better quickly. Wednesday 3 fairways and 5 unplayable drives, ...

Re: If You Could Play Golf as Often as You Prefer, How Often?

I have learned a lot about this with my recent play as much as you can time. I can tell you 4-5 rounds per week is a lot of golf. Based upon my last 70 days, I expect my retirement goals (hopefully in 10 years or so) to be 4 times per week. Not sure I would need more than that if I got 4 times every...

Re: Putting confessions

When I was fitted for my putter, there were really only two parameters - putter length and how I aimed. It turned out that I aim much better with a plumber's neck putter than with other types, so that's what I have used ever since. BTW - one thing I could never do is a putter with an Odyssey two bal...

Re: Summer Support Group

I guess that it is fall, but we had in NJ the wettest, coolest summer that I can remember. The courses never dried out and were lush through August. Unheard of in NJ. But September has been the warmest and driest I have ever seen. Courses are rock hard right now, almost like a normal August. Had 6 o...

There's a monthly Golf Digest series called "Undercover Tour Pro" where each month a tour pro anonymously writes about a topic. A few months ago the article was about how the tour would be different without caddies. He made it very clear that the staff bags relate to sponsor money - they n...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Had my best 9 yesterday with a -3 33 for the front. Short game was on fire with 2 sandy's (one for bird on a par 5), 3 relative tap ins for par from chips, and one chip in for birdie. Then I promptly started the back 9 Double, Bogey, Double to end any thoughts of being under par. Funny thing was tha...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Played in an outing at Trump Bedminster yesterday where they played the Women's Open. Beautiful course and facility so sort of a bucket list day. Played in a shamble so not sure what I really shot, but my guess is that I was around 83-84 if I had been playing my own ball. Hit some really good shots...

Re: The Presidents Cup 2017

I find any Sunday the NY Giants are playing a good time to hit the course. When my son was playing tennis I would drop him off at the courts and go to the range on Sunday afternoons. I would basically have the range to myself, then at 4:30 or so tons of people would show up because the football game...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

My Utility wedge that came with my set is 50 degrees so I play a 54 and 58 - that is partly because early in my golf life I read an article where Butch Harmon said most amatuers should never use anything higher than a 58, so I got used to it. Most people seem to play 52, 56, 58, so it was surprising...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

I was in Golf Galaxy at least a month ago. The intent was to buy balls and make sure I knew what wedges I was going to buy at the end of August. Low and behold, they had in stock exactly what I was going to buy - Titleist (not the issue) but the right lofts, grinds, and finish. This despite the fact...

I'm actually pretty happy with that.

For a guy who used to complain about how bad he was seems like pretty impressive improvements. Nice job - scoring on every hole is really good.

Re: 2017 PGA TOUR thread

I think the guys doing this have good intentions. If you do the math, for 16 rounds of the playoffs some of these guys could be on the hook for $50-100k, not chump change but obviously when the make the coin they make easily affordable. Stacy Lewis' donation was more impressive - her entire check. K...

Re: Turning properly

I read recently where a lot of amateurs (including me) flare the left (lead foot) toward the target and that this often prevents them from making a full turn. So I started squaring my left foot and the results have been dramatically good - really solid hits and good distance. Might want to see if th...
