Re: WTF did you shoot today?

20' birdie putt... walked off with an 8. Statistically that is a six-putt. Probably my first one. Now, I think the season is going to end, and I will be forced to sit on this turd over the whole winter, stewing in bitterness and regret. Think I finished at 82. FTS Sorry, just had to laugh. Years ag...

Re: How far do you have to travel to your home course?

I prefer to keep it under 30 minutes if I can. I figure I'm gone for 5 hours including pre-teeing off, why make it longer. That said, this weekend I'm solo and I've considered 45-60 minutes.

Re: The Tiger Thread

Maybe it sounded like I was criticizing his chipping but I wasn't and totally agree with you - I would think chipping would take the longest to get back to normal. Also, Speith said the course was one of the hardest chipping courses they have played due to the grain, elevated greens, etc.

Re: The Tiger Thread

He is putting great. He's given away a few strokes on par 5's and with his chipping, otherwise he would be 3-5 shots better. And he's hitting driver great. Over all very promising assuming he's pain free.

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Yesterday was likely my last NJ round of the year. I've said that twice before but given that I can only play on weekends right now and the 2 week forecast is grim, that was likely it. My game has been mediocre at best the last 6 weeks - not scrambling like normal, although that is partly conditions...

Can't stand it anymore - been waiting all week - where's the season end commentary from the LPGA's biggest fan. Where's the cutting comment on Lexi's missed putt. Where's the Beef?

Re: Airplane Seat Switching

As someone who qualifies as a road warrior, perfectly within reason to say no. If the kids were alone or to switch to a window seat, the case may be different, but the kids had grandma and notice that Hubby did not choose to swap with this wife. I did do such a swap once, but the middle seat was in ...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

That sounds like fun. I would love to do a shamble with one of my buddies - we're both around 7-8 handicaps - he's a great driver of the ball and I'm pretty good 150 yards and in. Think we'd make a great team.

Re: Shitty swing thoughts thread

Any swing thought where the main intent is to increase distance is bad in my book. When I first started out I would constantly mess myself with all of the distance tips from the Golf mags. Firmly believe that you only increase distance reliably through better contact.

Re: Autumn Support Group Thread

Based upon forecasts yesterday may have been my last NJ round this year. I’m fearing a harsh winter. Ended season with a decent 80 where I struck the ball decently under muddy conditions. Good thing because the previous round was one of those landmark bad swing days and I didn’t want that hanging ov...

Re: Autumn Support Group Thread

Went to the range before my round yesterday. I finished up my range session with a couple short chip and pitch shots, then pulled my driver back out to re-loosen up before heading to the tee. I went to make some flat baseball-type swings and accidentally caught the shaft on a cast iron rod that was...

I suffer from occasional cramping, usually in the middle of the night. When it happens, I'll have a small tonic water, 6-8 oz. IMO it works.

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Friday was supposed to be my last day but my wife changed her plans yesterday and so she suggested that I go out one more time. Pretty decent 78 but the highlight was the two birdies. Left a wedge short on the 1st hole but sank a 35 foot putt for bird. Left another wedge way short (happened several ...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Been going through a very strange phase. Last 3 weeks I've played 14 times. I'd have to classify 7 of those as really putrid for my level. I few mediocre rounds but I really didn't hit the ball solidly at all, and 3 rounds which have been absolutely fabulous. Go figure. Really nice 76 today to close...

Re: driving range confessions

Guilty to both at various times. My other problem is, "how do you leave balls that you could hit at the range?" So yesterday I went to the range wanting to hit about 60-70 balls. Of course, the smallest bucket is 50 balls and the next up is 90, so I bought 90 swearing that I would leave be...

Hybrid Fix

For you who know more about gear than I do. I have a Cobra 3-4 Hybrid that is adjustable from 19-22 degrees. Unfortunately the shaft broke the other day. I looked a little online for a used replacement, and have thought about seeing if Cobra would have a replacement shaft. I really like the club and...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

So two days after shooting 3 miserable rounds in a row, especially the 3rd (what I didn't mention is that I stopped counting strokes when I maxed at DB so the 90 was really about 95) I shot a really terrific 76. The score doesn't tell the whole story - not knowing the course was a factor in 3 of the...

9th.JPG 17th.JPG 18th.JPG Not sure these do the view justice, but pictures from the course that my mom lives on in the NC mountains. Mountain Views are great. These are the tee boxes for the 9th, 17th, and 18th holes, all par 5's. All 3 holes drop severely. To give you an idea, the 9th is listed at...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

I was in Virginia early in the week but now am in the NC mountains. I usually play Bridgestone 330 RX and picked up some Callaway Chromesoft yesterday which is what I used to play before switching to Bridgestone. Part of this is my affinity and ability to see yellow balls better, but also have norma...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

My swing and game have been an absolute wreck this week, particularly off the tee. Monday 3 fairways and 2 unplayable drives for an 85. Felt so bad about my driving I went to the range afterword. Of course I felt like I had the situation better quickly. Wednesday 3 fairways and 5 unplayable drives, ...

Re: If You Could Play Golf as Often as You Prefer, How Often?

I have learned a lot about this with my recent play as much as you can time. I can tell you 4-5 rounds per week is a lot of golf. Based upon my last 70 days, I expect my retirement goals (hopefully in 10 years or so) to be 4 times per week. Not sure I would need more than that if I got 4 times every...

Re: Putting confessions

When I was fitted for my putter, there were really only two parameters - putter length and how I aimed. It turned out that I aim much better with a plumber's neck putter than with other types, so that's what I have used ever since. BTW - one thing I could never do is a putter with an Odyssey two bal...
