Re: The Tiger Thread

Can you imagine what could be if he was able to rectify his tee shot issues once and for all? I was perusing GOLF magazine last night. Their driver picture sequence of the month was Brooks - good timing for them. One comment stood out - "like most good drivers, he always plays to one shape." I noti...

Re: 2018 summer support group

Interesting experience exploring new courses the last two days. Yesterday I had the chance to play at a local club. The reputation was the course was hard and tight. No my old course wasn't popular because it was so tight, but this place was unreal. The rating was 71.1/135 for only 6100 yards - not ...

Re: 2018 summer support group

Don't care what she looks like I disdain her and anyone else who is an instagram "star." Sorry, when it comes to things like instagram "stars" I'm a crotchety old man. And I wouldn't allow that outfit at my golf club. I'm there to golf.

Re: 2018 summer support group

I was partly just trying to get a stir out of the Beef but one clear difference down here is that several courses don't have dress requirements and total sloppiness results. I mean total sloppy and I'm not a snot at all. If you look at some of the Nike guys on tour, they are often wearing shirts tha...

Re: 2018 summer support group

I wouldn't hate summer golf so much if we could just dress as we do for running or working out--i.e. for comfort and performance. I don't belong to a club but I have to disagree. The problem isn't relaxing the dress code. The problem is that then people take it too far. Nobody wants to see a tank t...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Sometimes I think this game exists just to frustrate the heck out of some of us. I've been playing relatively indifferent golf this year, both pre and post move but even more so post move. Lots of decent scores but almost nothing really good and nothing really bad. Include a few bad practice rounds ...

Re: Where would you live?

My dream spot to retire is Sea Island so I would say Sea Island and then someplace cooler for the high summer heat. If the Powerball ever came my way, it's probably less about where I would live than the trips I would take that would be golf related. Do you have to buy a Powerball ticket to win?

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

88 for my first round in 6 weeks. Couldn't hit the ball at all but I just kept holing putts. In tiger terms I turned a 98 into an 88 today. So much disappointment in my ball striking today. Not a single shot hit solidly. I just want to crawl into a corner and cry it was so bad. I had a round like t...

Re: Tiger Woods's Stinger

I wanted it for coolness and effectiveness. I was successive in hitting it low but keeping it super low I kept hitting severe hooks. Part of the problem was that I was trying to do it with Hybrids and FWs for distance purposes - much easier with an iron but then if an iron distance would work for my...

Re: Tiger Woods's Stinger

Tried to perfect this many times on the range looking for a shot I could count on to hit a fairway. Had to do consistently enough to use, at least with the kind of distance I would want to not be at a severe disadvantage.

Re: Forced Carry - Thought Process

Every forced carry on Worthington is over an area that is unplayable, typically wetlands or water. I am not counting rough either. Basically, every forced carry at Worthington of which I am referring to, is an area that MUST be carried. If that's the case I totally agree with you. Generally I would...

What are 'wetlands'? Is that like marsh?
Essentially yes, but in some states there are strong environmental protections so they can be even worse.

Re: Forced Carry - Thought Process

Funny, after playing my course for 3 years now, I hardly notice forced carries. HOWEVER, there are 13 or 14 of them, including 11 off of tee boxes. Some are quite long. If you ever play Worthington, make sure you have plenty of balls....and golf balls! :o Curious as to your definition of a forced c...

Re: Forced Carry - Thought Process

I was thinking the opposite - it occurred to me how few real carries that the courses I played in NJ had. The courses I've been playing in TN have many more carries. They generally aren't an issue for my game as they aren't really what I would call dangerous carries, but the Mrs. has taken to playin...

Re: Forced Carry - Thought Process

Likely depends on the club and distance. With my wedges and scoring irons, say 9i-7i, I have pretty high confidence in my distances. So I don't get too concerned with forced carries unless there's an issue with the lie or something. With 6i-FW my distance consistency is much lower so I'm probably wa...

To which I quote Bobby Jones - "Golf is assuredly a mystifying game. It would seem that if a person has hit a golf ball correctly a thousand times, he should be able to duplicate the performance at will. But such is certainly not the case."

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month

Had my first legit eagle on a par 5 today. Had one over the winter but I was playing the senior tees due to the conditions. Driver/FW to 20 feet and made the putt. Hole is listed as 477 - I'm sure the tees were up a little, but this one is legit.

Re: 2018 summer support group

Maybe what the Beef needs is a summer challenge - how much lower can you shoot than the temperature. Beat the temp by 20 degrees today - it was 97 and the feels like was 104. Welcome to the South I guess. Interesting thing for all my complaints about Southern golf grasses, the ball seems to go a lot...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

41/44 from blues at Neshanic. Not bad. Played with Ms Beef and a couple of dudebroguys, stereotype guys--whale on it with the driver but pretty inept at everything else. I felt like DougE out there, i.e. outplaying some younger guys with humble, old man restraint-golf. Couple more practices and I'l...

p.s. a 78 is darn good when nothing falls. Your standards are too high!! ;)
I know and I wasn't really unhappy with the score, just exasperated with bad bounces when I was striking it really well and then the bladed shot ends up perfect.

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Golf is cruel, totally cruel. This is how today's round started: 1. Good drive, good 9i but needed an 8i, chip, make nice curling putt for par. 2. Good drive but slipped on the approach shot. Even though I hit the shot on one leg almost falling down, hit it to pin high just 30 yards left. Pitched to...

Re: 2018 summer support group

I often find that the fix for a slump is a solo round - seems to get the right rhythm and then there's the opportunity to hit multiple shots to figure things out. Hope it helps.

When I was taking lessons my instructor kept telling me to look how short JB Holmes' swing was - don't get much longer distance wise then him.

Re: Just Keep Swimming

How tall are you? These are two big guys. I was told once to pattern my swing after a pro who has similar physical build. Does that apply here?
