Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Had one of my best rounds ever (but not quite top 3) today with a 72 on my new easier home course. Pretty solid in every facet today, 5 bogeys and 3 birds. Interesting had 3 EXTREMELY bad swings that caused 3 of the bogeys, the kinds that you were thrilled to just make bogey, but otherwise was spot ...

Re: The New 2019 Rules

So I spent an hour reviewing all of the changes. I'm still not convinced that it changes much in terms of golf easiness. From reviewing the rules I see it as follows: 1. Leaving pin in hole - still not totally convinced that this makes putting easier, but if it does it might save a stroke every coup...

Re: The New 2019 Rules

I guess I don't see it changing easiness that much with maybe two exceptions: 1) removing impediments and grounding in hazards could make it easier (however, I doubt if many golfers today charge themselves a penalty if they accidentally ground in a hazard); 2) the dropping ob/lost balls in the fairw...

Re: The New 2019 Rules

Interesting - is the flag stick rule one that applies to everyone or just amateurs? Interested in seeing what the pros start doing.

Re: The New 2019 Rules

You didn't allow voting for my favorite new rule which is handling of OB/Lost ball by dropping in fairway with penalty. I also like being able to mark more areas as "red". I feel like most of these are common sense that reflect how most of us play anyways. I'm not crazy about a few, such as intentio...

Re: 2018 PGA Tour Thread

This has become a joke. The Americans are trying to overpower the course like it's the John Deere Open when the course is set up like a U.S. Open. Tiger and Bryson and Tiger make a 6 on a par 5 AFTER the opponents put their tee shot into the water. With all these vice captains does anyone know about...

Re: What's in your bag?

Please tell me you'd at least put a Titleist head cover on it? I know that there is at least one Titleist tour pro who plays FWs and Hybrids from an earlier generation but covers them with the latest Titleist headcovers. I bought Cobra F7 FW and hybrids last year and I love them. Didn't expect much...

Re: 2018 Fall Support Group

I find the shrinking daylight quite depressing. The temperatures and leaves don't bother me, especially in my new location, but I really like those longer days where I can leave the office at 4:30 once a week and play 9-18. Yesterday I barely got in 14 holes. My guess is that next week 12 will be lu...

Re: Handicaps and Course Difficulty

Got my wish on Saturday - both went low and had a blow up in the same round. On a difficult course with difficult conditions, +2 38 on the front with a DB. Given the course and conditions, probably about a good a 9 ever. Then +10 46 on the back, with +8 on last 5 holes. Swing totally left me with pe...

Re: Dustin Johnson, Life in the Fast Lane thread

I get way too many golf newletters, but for the Beef's enjoyment this is from one: Charles Curtis of For The Win on an Instagram story Paulina Gretzky posted that features the Great One's daughter listening to a song. "As some people have noted, these are the lyrics to the Dustin Lynch song attached...

Re: Handicaps and Course Difficulty

One thing to think about. If you are having a good round do you feel you get conservative in an attempt to not mess it up? Probably, but not in the way that you are thinking. I think when I'm playing well I tend to try to be too careful with my swing - this results in what I call "the lefts" - lots...

Re: Handicaps and Course Difficulty

And then, there are birdie holes: short par 5s that you get on in 2 or really close for a good chance at an up-and-down if you leave the ball in the right place One thing that is very true about my new course is the par 5s are much more routine - don't want to curse myself but I really shouldn't ha...

Re: Handicaps and Course Difficulty

So I'm not sure where I fall in this category, but there are many people that say for better players playing an easier course is better for your handicap to travel. The theory is once you get to a certain level of physical capabilities, your brain has a way of making sure you keep your scores consi...

Handicaps and Course Difficulty

So I've been thinking about this a lot lately with the move. Since I play a lot of different courses, I use my handicap to judge how well I'm playing - I actually use an average differential of all my rounds more than my actual handicap. Anyway, this could be a whole different discussion, but since ...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Interesting day - don't know whether to be thrilled or unhappy. 16 GIR's (2 on fringe but clear putting situation) but 5 over par 75 as I made ugly DB's on both holes on which I didn't have a GIR. Had wedge in my hand for a GIR both times. Also 3 putted for bogey 3 times to go along with 2 birdies. ...

Re: Putting tempo and putter weight

According to the book, most putters have a tempo between 70 and 85 beats per minute. He gives you a drill to figure how your preferred tempo. I don't believe that he would agree on changing tempos for a different putter, but IDK.

Re: Putting tempo and putter weight

James Sieckmann talks about putting tempo in his book - you may be able to google some videos, but if I remember there's an acceptable range of tempos and the key is to find where you are comfortable. There's even a drill you can do with a metronome. I'll try to remember to look it up tonight. BTW -...

Re: Strange Things During A Round

There is a certain "country" element that takes getting used to here: Speaker music very common - not my preferred manner of play but doesn't bother me that much Lack of dress codes - Beef might like it but distasteful in my opinion LOTS of heavy drinking on the course like I've never seen before, I...

Re: Strange Things During A Round

Again had one of those experiences that you can't make up. Went to play some after work today. The starter pairs me with another single and sends us to start on the back 9. Re: WTF did you buy today?

I must say that one of the reasons I stuck with Callaway wedges was that I found Titleist too confusing. Then last year Callaway confused me. That, and a Titleist day session, led me to try them and now I'm a big fan. Just hoping that they keep the system the same. Beef - I found at my "fitting" tha...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

DOUGIE I need your help quick. Looking at Titleist wedges. Which grind do you have and why? Leaning towards the m or the s. I have 2 58's with the M grind and 1 54 with the M grind and 1 54 with the S grind. I usually play with a 58M and a 54S. I think that gives me the flexibility I need for almos...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

Congrats and interesting - my image of Bridgestone clubs is that they are more of a player's irons for much better players than any of us Not sure I agree. We have a lot of good players here at LG, including yourself. Anyone who has a repeatable, controlled swing and decent swing speed can successf...
