Re: WTF did you buy today?

I only buy putter covers with magnets now since the velcro wears out. I've had good luck with Stitch golf among others - I like fun.

Re: Cold Weather and Hands

I have a pair of Footjoy winter golf gloves. I wear a regular golf glove on my left hand and the winter golf on my right - winter glove is much warmer. The good thing about the winter glove is that it fits tight and is much better than a normal glove of feeling like you are gloveless if that makes a...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

Exactly! Actually from my online research I thought I was going to fall in love with the Concept X - over $600 - but I tried one in the golf store and really didn't like it. I found a used one in mint condition online, but it wasn't clear that the head cover was included - what's the point of having...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

My wife already pushed back on my desire for a Scotty for Christmas, so my guess is a $750 pair of shoes is out. Unfortunately, I appear to have lost my winter golf vest which is pretty essential to certain types of weather, so now I have a 2nd golf item to request besides the shoes. Still dreaming ...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

Doug, My wife is asking what I want for Christmas. I need a new pair of "dry" golf shoes. I normally got the cheap fj countour fit or something like that, but don't see them. I'm likely going to just buy them on Amazon. What are a few different good shoes to keep dry in? (Obviously dryjoys but need...

Re: 2018 Fall Support Group

Had one of those experiences some of you guys live for yesterday. Good bit of rain overnight Saturday (after a torrential down pour last Thursday) and it was supposed to rain throughout the day. Rain stopped mid-morning and I thought, I could go to the gym or burn the same calories with 9 holes or m...

Re: Bunker Play

I think #2 is probably the best option for me. #1 definitely isn't right for me. Anytime I take more than 1/2 a swing out of the bunker uncertainly results, too often getting ball first and then going over the green. BTW, in addition to the 2 very long bunker shots, I also had 3 normal short bunker ...

He does it with a Ping 400 Max driver. I don't know that specific club, but given that it's a Ping 400 it has to be a game improvement club of some sort so all the more impressive that it hits it that far.

Re: Bunker Play

So what would you typically do in this situation? I twice on Saturday had a long bunker shot, 35-40 yards to the hole both of which required a 25-30 yard carry to be safely on the green. In one case there was another bunker in between the one I was in and the green. I think the typical options are: ...

Re: The Grumble Thread

So today was beautiful weather here, tee sheets were full. We had a threesome behind us. As we were on the 5th tee, one of the guys approaches my wife and asks if they can play through. She says she doesn't know the etiquette, but she would talk to the group. We were at that point maybe half a hole ...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

On the fourth hole I pushed the drive into the trees, then ball below my feet I almost whiffed the next with a six-iron. The third shot was still below my feet, and so again I topped it, but this was like, the motherfucker of all tops, just kept rolling and rolling until it's eight feet from the ho...

Re: 2018 Fall Support Group

I must admit that I am excited about the prospect of living somewhere where year round golf is a possibility. My hope is that I can average 2-4 rounds per month from Dec-Feb - should be possible with normal winters. On the other hand, the approach of the end of daylight savings time is depressing an...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Had one of my best rounds ever (but not quite top 3) today with a 72 on my new easier home course. Pretty solid in every facet today, 5 bogeys and 3 birds. Interesting had 3 EXTREMELY bad swings that caused 3 of the bogeys, the kinds that you were thrilled to just make bogey, but otherwise was spot ...

Re: The New 2019 Rules

So I spent an hour reviewing all of the changes. I'm still not convinced that it changes much in terms of golf easiness. From reviewing the rules I see it as follows: 1. Leaving pin in hole - still not totally convinced that this makes putting easier, but if it does it might save a stroke every coup...

Re: The New 2019 Rules

I guess I don't see it changing easiness that much with maybe two exceptions: 1) removing impediments and grounding in hazards could make it easier (however, I doubt if many golfers today charge themselves a penalty if they accidentally ground in a hazard); 2) the dropping ob/lost balls in the fairw...

Interesting - is the flag stick rule one that applies to everyone or just amateurs? Interested in seeing what the pros start doing.

Re: The New 2019 Rules

You didn't allow voting for my favorite new rule which is handling of OB/Lost ball by dropping in fairway with penalty. I also like being able to mark more areas as "red". I feel like most of these are common sense that reflect how most of us play anyways. I'm not crazy about a few, such as intentio...

Re: 2018 PGA Tour Thread

This has become a joke. The Americans are trying to overpower the course like it's the John Deere Open when the course is set up like a U.S. Open. Tiger and Bryson and Tiger make a 6 on a par 5 AFTER the opponents put their tee shot into the water. With all these vice captains does anyone know about...

Please tell me you'd at least put a Titleist head cover on it? I know that there is at least one Titleist tour pro who plays FWs and Hybrids from an earlier generation but covers them with the latest Titleist headcovers. I bought Cobra F7 FW and hybrids last year and I love them. Didn't expect much...

Re: 2018 Fall Support Group

I find the shrinking daylight quite depressing. The temperatures and leaves don't bother me, especially in my new location, but I really like those longer days where I can leave the office at 4:30 once a week and play 9-18. Yesterday I barely got in 14 holes. My guess is that next week 12 will be lu...

Re: Handicaps and Course Difficulty

Got my wish on Saturday - both went low and had a blow up in the same round. On a difficult course with difficult conditions, +2 38 on the front with a DB. Given the course and conditions, probably about a good a 9 ever. Then +10 46 on the back, with +8 on last 5 holes. Swing totally left me with pe...
