Re: Rules question

Assuming this situation isn't covered by the Conditions of the Competitions, the agreement to play a sudden death playoff stands since both players did not raise a claim immediately after leaving the final hole of the stipulated round*. A claim on this can't be made after leaving "the green of ...

Re: Europe

Sicily? Heavily overrated IMHO. Okay, agreed, mount Etna was fantastic - other than that it doesn't live up to its fame. Palermo is just a big noisy chaos, the small villages are almost dead by now and the forest fires are somewhat scary. OTOH, the typical Sicilian problems (mafia and north-African ...

Re: Last time you lit a firework

Fireworks... hmmm... Nice stuff. Just not a fan of the heavy artillery they call "consumers fireworks" these days. This is what new-year's eve looks like in a typical urban street. Friggin' warzone (including the casualties and everything... fireworks and alcohol don't mix well) http://i.i...

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month

Alright, the month isn't even half gone, but still, I don't think I'll top my shot yesterday. Alcaidesa Links, hole 12, 202 meters from the tips against the wind. Going down, I guess 70 meters or so. The green is small, and water lures just before the green. 3-wood landed just a foot or so behind th...

Re: What will help you the most?

Chipping. For unknown reasons, I lost my chipping capabilities two years ago. Very, very slowly, I re-learn how to chip the dang ball, but distance control still is far, far away in the future. Putting used to be awful too, but I found that piece of the puzzle tucked away somewhere in the darkest co...

Re: What Rules Would You Change?

going back and playing a provisional isn't really an option. Going back to play a provisional is and never has been an option. You play a provi from the same spot as the original when you think your original ball might be OB or lost. Once you go forward to search for it, the provi option is gone. s...

Re: 2017 Spring Golf Support Group Thread

Pfff... course closed today, even the driving range is closed (machine can't get the ball s from the mud). PS Why is the forum editor showing the plural of ball with the s that I typed, but the submitted message has it as ending in a z?! There obviously is a little Martian hiding in the forum cellar...

Spring? High winds at the moment (43 mph with gusts to 64), spring seems far, far away.

Re: The Tiger Thread

He actually had to fly commercial for the first time in 10 years, as he was blocked from being able to get to his plane. Ow, really? I did not know that - seems you're right there. However, the reason seems to be he didn't want the layover (see golf.com ). But even then, I guess he flies royal clas...

Re: The Tiger Thread

Anybody else think going to the middle east was a bad idea? That is a long flight even for a healthy backed person. That flight does not compare to what any of us are used to. He still has his own gulfstream, one stop and he's there. Tiger should work with Freddy - he sure knows how to work around ...

Were you, or could you just describe what you're going through when you're starting out the round? TIGER WOODS: No, I wasn't in pain at all. I was just t...

Looking at his stance it looks like his back is playing up again.

+5 after 15 holes, no birdies, missed the 3-footer on 6. All the way near the bottom of the scoreboard, only two play worse so far.

In German, 'ue' is a non-diacritic replacement for 'ü', I guess originally it was spelled "Kühn". Would've been more of a giveaway, no?

Re: What can and can't you talk about as scramble partners???

LOL. It makes an interesting case though. I discussed with two guys that know more than just a bit about the Rules. The first one (national referee) says: no question about that: DQ. Not just based on etiquette rules, but the intention is similar to D9-1. The other one even goes so far as to suspend...

Re: What can and can't you talk about as scramble partners???

Anything that is easily available to anyone, such as distance, is okay to tell your competitors. So is telling them the wrong distance should they ask. ;) Euh... I wouldn't be so sure. It certainly is not in the spirit of the game. The etiquette section of the rulebook contains the following: The S...
