Re: The New 2019 Rules

Doesn't the way handicaps are calculated get changed next year? I am not entirely sure, but what I heard is the changes in the handicap systems are postponed to 2020 (or possibly even later). Anyway, as I understand it these changes won't actually create a single handicap system that is the same th...

Re: 2018 summer support group

Played a new course yesterday called "The Links Valley". This course is a "reversible 9-hole course" that you can play clockwise and anti-clockwise, really weird and confusing at times. It was fun though albeit a little too hot to comfortably continue after the 9th for the second half. We'll go back...

I guess those would be stopped at customs, so please make sure they are packed as something innocent like weed or something

Re: Poison Ivy - What would you do?

We don't have that stuff over here but I understand it's quite nasty. I'ld definetely take an unplayable. Even if that means going back to where I hit the ball from to begin with.

Re: 2018 summer support group

After three weeks of struggling with back problems I finally got back on the course today. 24°C, little bit windy, terrific weather. We could even play through, no flight in view in front of us and a full hole gap between us and the fligh starting after us after three holes. Yay! Anyway, at the 8th,...

Re: Membership opportunity at my club

Are you people even considering the numbers? Douge is not some dead beat trying to live beyond means. Someone willing to spend this type of money on a hobby without having the means available to back it up is taking a risk IMHO. I would suggest to find a cheaper course and not waste money on carts....

Re: What are you getting/did you get for Christmas

I am curious as to how old your Contours are. If less than a year, they are guaranteed. The current pair didn't see much action really, there was too much else going on this year. The pair before that didn't last 2 years at all. The leather ripped at the outside of the shoe after a year of use (I g...

Re: Membership opportunity at my club

Paying through CC, yeah, that's something I wouldn't do either - but I guess that's the difference between the US way of living vs. the European. And look where HE is now! N=1 ;-). How many Americans got into trouble for loans they couldn't pay back? And where are they now? Taking out a loan for som...

Re: What are you getting/did you get for Christmas

If you don't already know FootJoys are the best and driest shoes you can buy, that's not my problem. They don't really have competition. Who else offers a two-year guarantee? Tell me another brand of golf shoe you can wear over 500 rounds and still not leak a drop in driving rain. Even though I rea...

If you can pony up the 7.5k upfront somehow it sounds like a nobrainer to me. OTOH, taking a loan paying for a golf membership is not something I would do, ever.

Wow, your wife competes nationally that is pretty neat. What is the competition like? Not that special really. The national competition in the Netherlands is a yearly team competition for amateurs. Each year they play 5 days (one day per week), 18 holes foresome followed by singles matches. There a...

Re: golf is hard

A tour golfbag with 14 clubs, balls, towels, raingear and water weighs up to 40 pounds. Really, that's not bad if you compare it to what the average infanterist has to lug around (60 to 100 pounds... now that is heavy). I ride only when on holidays in the heat. Pushcart otherwise as is the norm on t...

Re: Rules question

Assuming this situation isn't covered by the Conditions of the Competitions, the agreement to play a sudden death playoff stands since both players did not raise a claim immediately after leaving the final hole of the stipulated round*. A claim on this can't be made after leaving "the green of the f...

Sicily? Heavily overrated IMHO. Okay, agreed, mount Etna was fantastic - other than that it doesn't live up to its fame. Palermo is just a big noisy chaos, the small villages are almost dead by now and the forest fires are somewhat scary. OTOH, the typical Sicilian problems (mafia and north-African ...

Fireworks... hmmm... Nice stuff. Just not a fan of the heavy artillery they call "consumers fireworks" these days. This is what new-year's eve looks like in a typical urban street. Friggin' warzone (including the casualties and everything... fireworks and alcohol don't mix well) http://i.imgur.com/n...

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month

Alright, the month isn't even half gone, but still, I don't think I'll top my shot yesterday. Alcaidesa Links, hole 12, 202 meters from the tips against the wind. Going down, I guess 70 meters or so. The green is small, and water lures just before the green. 3-wood landed just a foot or so behind th...

Chipping. For unknown reasons, I lost my chipping capabilities two years ago. Very, very slowly, I re-learn how to chip the dang ball, but distance control still is far, far away in the future. Putting used to be awful too, but I found that piece of the puzzle tucked away somewhere in the darkest co...

going back and playing a provisional isn't really an option. Going back to play a provisional is and never has been an option. You play a provi from the same spot as the original when you think your original ball might be OB or lost. Once you go forward to search for it, the provi option is gone. s...
