Re: Course Staff and Rangers

I walked ahead of a twosome in a cart yesterday. They never came close. And, I'm old.

Re: Course Staff and Rangers

Knowing many starters and rangers personally myself, most of whom also play golf themselves, I think some of them feel the public golfer who pays to play is just a nuisance, at least if they are not specifically known by the ranger/starter as one of the "good" guys. If you aren't in the clic, you ar...

Re: 2018-2019 Winter Support Group

I finally got out to play a few holes today in Florida. Alls I can say is, don't take a month off from golf if you expect to play at the level you did before the layoff. Man, I felt like some 20+ handicapper out there. Somehow I kept the score somewhat under control, but my swing was terrible. I can...

Re: Sergio's Greatest Hits

Unlike Sergio, when the breaks go against him, Fowler, showed class under pressure in his win yesterday at the Phoenix WM Open, losing his 5-stroke lead on virtually one hole due to circumstances that would make even some of the coolest heads lose it. And it kills me to say it, but he did it with hi...

Re: February Golf

C'mon DougE, share some of that FL experience. How many rounds so far? Playing today and then watch football? I wish I had more to offer, but this 90th birthday celebration for my mom and the logistics surrounding it have made playing golf difficult. I have only been to the range an hour before dar...

JP who? Where the hell have you been?

Question. Why are your cars (at least in the photo) driving on the CORRECT side of the road over there? Did you guys finally figure out how to do things correctly?

Re: Just Keep Swimming

So I would expect a driver swap to fix that issue. If you are able to keep it in the fairway consistently without big hooks or slices, a higher launching shaft, not necessarily a higher lofted head, may be all you need to give you what you are looking for. I'd get fit for shafts first if I were you...

They aren't that expensive either. Like $150 or less if memory serves.

Re: When is it TOO Cold?

My buddy has a battery powered heated vest. It's rechargeable. He plugs it in overnight and he's ready for more warmth the next day. Evidently it is quite effective. He can crank it all the way up and stay warm well into the single digit temps. For golf, at 40*, he says he has to keep it on the low ...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

Bought two 2018-season Footjoy polos today, directly from FJ. On sale. Final day. $49.50 each. Normally, $79.50 each. Such a deal! Sorry, I know I am a Footjoy/Titleist snob loyalist, but FJ really does make quality clothing. The fit is better than my other brands, for sure. Though I only play Title...

They should call their gloves Handjoys.
Hmmm telling my wife I want 2 handjoys for my birthday and that I can get them somewhere else for $20 might not go over so well. At least my couch is comfortable.
:lolz

Nice one JFish. If you didn't go there, I would have!

Re: January Golf!

After getting everything prepared for my trip today, I snuck out an hour before dark and walked 6 holes. Finally. First holes in nearly three weeks. 40 degrees and cloudy. Muddy, yet frozen just under the mud, about a half inch down. Greens were solid as a rock, but not very fast. Chipped in from ju...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

How old are your irons? I just looked my R9s up, and they were released in 2009... 10 years old. How often do you upgrade irons? How often do you upgrade other clubs? Wedges probably the most often, right? Are you loyal? Tempted to go do a fancy fitting, to see what a real fitter thinks I should be...

Re: January Golf!

Triple bonus today. First bonus - the forecast changed two days ago - 50 instead of high 30's. 2nd bonus - my wife meets a lady two days ago. Tells her we are new to town and her husband is a golf nut. The other woman tells her that her husband is a golf nut and is going to invite me to play the be...

Re: 2018-2019 Winter Support Group

I think they are just hard packed sandy cart paths that double as "waste areas". I've seen it on a couple courses in Florida. Normally there are loose shells and crap mixed in with the sand, but maybe that was the cheaper ones I played like that. Yes, you do drive your cart in them, but you can't t...

El Tigré played pretty well. Swing looked good. I didn't play golf myself today, as I had hoped, so I watched El Tigré on TV here all day.

We are going to for reals need a hammer and nail to get a tee in the ground.
I actually did that last year for a few rounds. And not just a hammer. A nail was necessary. Plastic tees can break with the hammer going into frozen ground.

Re: 2018-2019 Winter Support Group

No golf today, as I had hoped. Cold front came through with a vengeance. Now temps are dropping fast and wind is gusting over 30 mph. A totally saturated course, with feels-like temps in the 20s, at best, and gale force winds is not at all appealing to me right now, since I'm already trying to shake...

Re: 2018-2019 Winter Support Group

I also listen to the PGA Golf channel a lot on Sirius. And have listened to two golf psychology audio books while I'm driving as well. Both written and narrated by Dr. Bob Rotella, though I have listened to both of them at various other times as well. I've heard them both now, at least 5 or 6 times ...

Re: 2018-2019 Winter Support Group

My mom IS cool. I just wish we could get her to stop rearranging the furniture around in her new place by herself. Like I said, she doesn't think she's old. When she drives her car behind a retiree she'll complain about old people who drive so slow. She and my sister drove up to Connecticut when she...

36 ft apex is low. I am assuming that is what it means by "Height." Or is it specified in yards? Normally apex is stated in feet.

Re: 2018-2019 Winter Support Group

So, this is officially the longest forced layoff I have had since I blew out a gastrocnemius muscle (calf) in November of 2016. It's been 18 days since I was on the course. Feels like an eternity. Today is going to be near 50, but pouring rain all morning. It was 5 degrees here 3 days ago. Most of t...
