I thought that, like me, you were lamenting about Dustin Johnson dropping out... Then I looked at your "picks", or non-picks as the case may be: ouch! The silver lining is you started the guy currently in first place, lol!

Sounds like a real challenge. 85 is not a bad start, but 80 is significantly better... Better sharpen those sticks Mr J-man!

Re: Putting illiterate

I watched this one recently on "capture speed". https://youtu.be/9O0oHaDsp8U Excellent! It's even more important when the ball has to curve to get back into the hole, i.e. when aiming outside the hole. But, in that case, note that the center of the hole is actually on the side somewhere, not in the...

Re: Putting illiterate

Try to make those shorter putts that have a significant break (aiming outside the hole) die in the hole or just go 6-8 inches by, not 2 or 3 feet. You should only be firm with the short putts when aiming inside the hole or the edge at the most. Read up on the notion of "capture speed": the slower th...

Re: Skins - rules

Do you play with carry overs? In the skin game that I play, there are no carry overs, so if only 5 holes have been won outright, it means that the winner of each skin gets 1/5 of the total amount bet. A push is just ignored, as far as skins go, so the number of payable skins is simply reduced. Some ...

Re: Scorekeeping Ethics

I am very minimally selective. When I'm just playing 9 holes or am playing by myself with a group in front that I dont want to feel rushed, I will often play 2 balls. I dont think it is legal to register a score in those cases even though I manually track both scores. It is also a good way to find ...

Re: Do non-golf personal issues affect your game

I voted "my life is perfect", cuz I don't remember. I am playing one shot at a time, and what happened before or after doesn't matter. Now, if say my wife was in an accident or sent to the hospital just before I would have started a round, I just wouldn't start it. Little things dont' matter.

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Hey, nice work on the 75, SJ That's some pretty good stuff. Gotta be playing some pretty flawless golf to hit that target. Thanks and to Matt as well. Not flawless, but solid. I managed to have 6 bogeys (offset by 3 birdies of course), but on all of them, the bogey was pretty much guaranteed (i.e n...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Had a personal best yesterday: 75 at San Jose Muni, CA (par 72). It was 2 shots better than my previous best. I hit 11 greens (also a PB), 10 fairways and made 3 birdies (tie for PB), with 31 putts overall, including a 0-putt from the fringe, and a 3-putt that converted a decent birdie chance, 5 fee...

Re: The Forward Press

I'm doing it with the putter (it helps getting the ball to roll sooner). but not with full swings. Maybe I should give it a try on those too: I have a tendency to cock my wrists very early and this could possibly work to reduce that flaw, which robs me of distance (not wide enough of an arc on the b...

Re: THE 2015 MASTERS TOURNAMENT thread

Awful sweet of Jordan to miss the par putt on 18, so that he and Tiger can share the record. Breaking records is nice but sharing is even better. That's just the kind of kid Jordan is. Yeah that sucked. True, but Jordan still holds the record for reaching the lowest (to -19). All the records ...

it is the differential, i just leave it as calculated to two decimals because it does not get rounded in what i use in excel. And i figured differential is a good way of seeing how a round went. I've meant yo ask you for a while, srogers13, what is the last number that you are showing (18.92 in the last instance) in your entries? The differential? If it is, I think it is supposed to be rounded up/down to the nearest 10th of a point (as 18.9 in the last instance), whereas once you compute th...
