Re: Random golf thoughts

Unfortunately that would punish the guys that aren't bombers. Plus, pretty sure the TaylorMades and Callaways of the world wouldn't allow that since they rely on that driver coverage to sell to the rest of us. Sorry SJD, I like ya, but that's just ridiculous. :nope It'd be like banning the fast bal...

Re: The Tiger Thread

I have decided that if Tiger enters the weekend of the Masters inside the top ten, then I will whip up some of that pimiento cheese spread. Inside the top 10 what? You mean finishes top 10 the week prior? Or top 10 in Vegas odds favorites? Also, you don't get to call it 'pimiento' after you bailed ...

Re: Random golf thoughts

Or another (probably stupid, but here goes) idea: ban the driver for the pros, as part of the hard card for the USGA, R&A and PGA Tour. It seems that most of them have a 3 wood that goes 280 or so, or maybe a bit more. Voila: problem solved. No need for a rule change or anything. It's just a conditi...

Re: Random golf thoughts

Even if the USGA and R&A are right about distance getting out of control (hint: it isn't), any remedy should only apply to professional golfers and not the rest of us. Can you imagine "reining in the ball 20%" for our game? Instead of say a 240 yard drive, which is admittedly pushing it for me, it w...

Re: 2nd annual Legitimate Frozen Balls Challenge

I would vote Beef for his unwavering commitment to play golf in the worst area for golf in the whole country, including in tough wintery conditions, but since he does not want the trophy, it would have to go to Doug, also as hardcore at golf as anyone else on this site! PS: My entry was in jest in c...

Re: Random golf thoughts

Agreed with you Beef. But Doug has a great point. He and I aren't getting any younger and we mostly got what we've got in terms of distance. Sure, you can always fine tune the swing to get more accuracy. Hitting greens closer is easier from the fairway than the rough or fairway bunkers. Also, hittin...

Indeed, it was lots of fun to watch the old guy win. Props to JT for that eagle on the 72th hole, after a monster weekend: that was incredible!

Re: February Golf.

I played one of the munis around here today, trying to plan around the rain. We had a pretty good soaking yesterday at about 1.5 inches (finally, yeah!), so I figured the place would be less crowded. There was no problem with the water pooling on the course, as it was bone dry before. There were mor...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

If you hit a 7 iron 140 yards or less, then a 6 iron should be the longest iron in your set. The 3,4,& 5 should be hybrids. If you hit your 7 iron 150-160 yards, consider nothing longer that a 5 iron , 3 & 4 should be hybrids If you can hit your 7 iron 170 yards, nothing longer than a 4 iron, 3 sho...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

Yesterday I finally broke down and got a hybrid for my primary set. After trying to love my 4 iron for over a year, I realize I can only manage to hit it well when the ball is teed up, so that kind of limits its usefulness... I found a real nice 4 hybrid on the Callaway PreOwned website for around $...

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month

I don't recall anything great for the month, but I had a nice chip-in birdie from the left side of the green, nearly pin high (but on the far side, so lots of roll to the pin), with a sidewinder. I clipped the ball perfectly, landed it on my spot and watched it hit the slope, bounce right, start rol...

Re: Handicap Changes on the way

I would add that with a course handicap of 18 or 19, your max ESC score is currently 7 for all holes, regardless of par; it will become 6, 7 or 8 (mostly) depending on the par. So overall, hardly any difference at all in this case.

Re: Handicap Changes on the way

It's net double bogey max, not double bogey max, so if your index is 17.3, your course handicap is 18 or 19 on nearly all courses and you get one handicap stroke on every hole and sometimes (harder courses) on hole handicap #1. Net double bogey means 6 on par 3s, 7 on par 4s and 8 on par 5s, with th...

Re: 2018 Winter Season Support Group

I suspect that your driving position is slightly tilted to the right (i.e. towards the pedals), causing stress on your left side. Not making things better are keeping your wallet in the rightside back pocket. I do both of these things (the wallet comes out for long drives though), and I have a soren...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

Mizzy JPX 900s would be one of my top considerations if I couldn't have my Titleist AP2s or AP3s. I have hit both the JPX 850 Pros and the 900 Pros. Very nice feel. Good distance. Forgiving. Workable. And also of utmost importance, nice to look at. I was quite impressed. I still love a players-styl...

Re: WTF did you buy today?

Yes, but at least in Mizuno's case, the model of the iron you want still has to be in production, and that may mean that you can only do this 2 to 3 years after the club introduction to the market, as things get obsoleted quickly. I "lost" (more like someone took it from my bag at the range as I nev...

Re: February Golf.

51 is balmy. You don't need luck, SJD. (At least not for playing in 51 degree temps. Your game in general might, so, good luck, I guess.) The temp never went above 53, but the wind was pretty strong at 15-20mph, and it felt cold. I mean I had to have an extra layer, besides my polo shirt. :facepalm...

Hey, it's going to be literally freezing the next couple of nights in Northern California: seriously, 32F and below. Does that count, or make us tough? :fk :rofl Daytime temps are supposed to be in the high 40s and low 50s, which is like "real cold" for us. I'll be playing tomorrow at 1pm with a pro...

Please. All shorts look stupid on adult men period. So let's not act like a few shades of tan is what is preventing us from looking awesome. Re: Random youtube thread

Sending a Tesla into space strikes me as a little crass. Every other object that people send up there generally has some specific science-oriented purpose. This seems more like an attempt to go viral on social media. I wondered why they couldn't outfit the car with a solar panel and a rechargable b...

Re: Random youtube thread

I get your point about it's nothing (other than the dual booster landing) that hasn't been done before... but you've got to admit that the shot of Starman with his elbow hanging on top of the Tesla door, presumably listening to David Bowie, with a "Don't Panic!" sign in front of him is a stroke of m...

I have to concur also. It was just incredible, and the live picture of Starman in the Telsa, with the left elbow hanging out was so cool too! It happened just like in the animation... and in the dreams of many, I am sure. Does anyone know what happens to the main core? Did it land on the drone ship?...

I am still in Hawaii for a few more days, and I won't bore you with how nice and warm it is and all that stuff.
