Re: Random youtube thread

I get your point about it's nothing (other than the dual booster landing) that hasn't been done before... but you've got to admit that the shot of Starman with his elbow hanging on top of the Tesla door, presumably listening to David Bowie, with a "Don't Panic!" sign in front of him is a stroke of m...

Re: Random youtube thread

I have to concur also. It was just incredible, and the live picture of Starman in the Telsa, with the left elbow hanging out was so cool too! It happened just like in the animation... and in the dreams of many, I am sure. Does anyone know what happens to the main core? Did it land on the drone ship?...

Re: January Golf!

I am still in Hawaii for a few more days, and I won't bore you with how nice and warm it is and all that stuff. I Just want to vent about my inability to put 18 holes together, and I feel it's just a mental thing (ie lack of focus). To wit, the previous round was 50-38=88 and today I had an 37-43=80...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

The most fearsome words in that alert: THIS IS NOT A DRILL. The whole thing was written in all caps too...

Lots of people really panicked, especially on Oahu. It was eerily over here. And I did enjoy my round quite a lot, thank you, even having a thought for you guys in the frozen East afterwards.

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

I shot a decent 82 (par 72) on the Big Island of Hawaii, in perfect weather: i think 82 was the temp too, or around there, very sunny and clear and a bit of wind but nothing terrible. This was after waking up to the sound of the emergency alert on my phone calling for imminent nuclear doom. So I kis...

Re: 2018 Winter Season Support Group

If it's any consolation to you all, it's pouring rain here so I too, am stuck inside. Like I had time to golf anyway. I had time, but same thing, a big rain out. Probably over 2 inches between yesterday and today. More in the hills... The good news is that I am packing my bags and heading towards t...

Not sure what your beef is Mr Beef. I remember that thread (and also wrote in it). Nobody is forcing a guilt trip on you and I really believe that you are one of the good guys in that matter (and many others). Yes, last winter was unusually warm (and we had unusual rain here in CA) and this year is ...

Re: 2018 Winter Season Support Group

In any case, this forced time off is not doing the same for me, as you may be trying to convince yourself that it is doing for you. I truly hope it is helping you. But, I'll need more convincing that it is actually helping me. It's helping your wallet, therefore you. :lolz Seriously, I can't really...

Re: 2018 Winter Season Support Group

Ouch! I feel your pain, Doug. At least you can chip in your basement: that's great! When I can't play for a week or more (usually due to saturated courses after copious rains, or something wrong with me), I go bonkers too. And this is one reason we live in California and have a second place in Hawai...

SJD, very good year. Impressive. Sounds like you've been playing a lot of golf. Are you posting on SG360 anymore? Thanks, Doug. Yes, It was a good year and I am playing quite a bit. Not having a job helps with that, as you know! I have actually never signed on SG360. I moved on to my own database, ...

Re: 2017 Year-End Totals

I am roughly at $5000 spent with 120 rounds recorded for stats and posted (I walked 80 of them), plus a few more where I didn't. I played (terribly) at Spanish Bay for the first time, taking advantage of a nice NCGA discount on the green fee, of "only" $150. I also played tournaments at a few high-...

Re: Breaking 80: What it means to you

I was like you, Beef, a few years ago. I broke 80 once (I think it was with a 78) and never did it again for something like a year and a half. Then I broke it 3 or 4 times in a year and the following year (last year) it was 9 times. And get this: this year it was 30 times (out of around 120, even th...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Shot my best round by 1 today: 74. I have to admit it was on a par 70 and I played from the white tees (just under 5800 yards) to accommodate the other 3 guys I met on the tee. One of them should have moved up even further, lol. Three birdies from stiff iron shots helped a lot. I figure it counts be...

Re: Membership opportunity at my club

I would do it, but I doubt that they will let you transfer the membership (even once): that's the gamble. I think that part of the risk they are taking is that they expect that you won't play for all 5 years (or at least not 170 rounds every year for 5 years), so they won't have the cart expense, et...

Sounds like, in the end, you still have 9.99 fingers intact. (That's assuming all others are still connected and complete.) Coulda been a lot worse. Glad you are back to working on your game. Yup, all my digits are still attached and intact and this one will finish to grow back I feel, so I'll be a...

Agreed! I had seen a buddy of mine get lucky and chip in three in one round (some for par I think), but three in four holes for birdie? That is Tigeresque!! :thumbs

Re: Autumn Support Group Thread

I just sliced the top of my left thumb off, chopping salad. I have a flat spot now and it did hurt like hell: it's a bit better now, a day later, but I don't think I can hold a club. Bummer! So it's been a few weeks. As I mentioned, mine grew back after I did the same thing many years ago. How is y...

Why didn't they ask a person on either side of that middle seat to trade with your window neighbor? They would have been closer together than everyone in one row.... SMH.

Re: Newly Cut Holes vs. Beat Up Holes

I believe Kuehn is right: sharp edges are more conducive to get the putt to fall in, especially in conjunction with the volcano effect that tends to develop on old holes due to people pulling their ball out with the putter, raising the edges above the ground surrounding the hole. Also, leaving the p...
