Re: Fore-Caddy Tip

The reason standard tips went from 15% to 18% is because in most restaurants the server tips out 3% of their bills at the end of the night. Usually 1% each to the host.hostess, bartender, and bussers. I was a server for 5 years and worked in almost every position at that restaurant (including accoun...

Re: Advice on gut reduction

I'm down 30 lbs since the end of April. Although that is a misleading figure because I gained 12 lbs in April due to moving, and eating out all of the time.

I have about 5-7 more lbs to go before I get to what I want.

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Not to change the subject, because I love statistics conversations. But am I the only person who has lost a ball on the chipping range? The worst part is I use my own balls when practicing putting/chipping because range balls react so differently. This morning I went to the range to practice chippin...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Where did you get that statistic? I'm not refuting it. I'm just curious. Also, 'ball striking' is a big category. I'm wondering if it's broken down into tee shots vs approach shots. Its based on data pulled by Mark Brodie, in his book "Every shot counts." This is how it is broken down between the a...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

I think that if you want a 20 handicapper to turn into a 17 handicap you can basically throw a dart at any area of their game to pick up 3 strokes. And the way to accomplish that the quickest will be short game and/or course management (for the normal 20+ handicap). But if that 20 handicap is trying...

But from what I've seen arcos doesn't provide much more than gamegolf in the stat category (I could be wrong).

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

I'm reading what you are saying Jason and I agree but surprised you haven't jumped on Shot by Shot by now - seems right up your alley. I'm going to cheat them out of some money. I have been recording shot by shot data on my score cards, but figured I'd get 10 rounds and enter them all in my 30 day ...

I think you both make great points. I'm a data guy. The one skill in life I am most proficient at is analyzing data, finding bias, revising that data, and trying to find correlations with useful processes. I believe that quantitative data trumps qualitative data 99.9% of the time. My biggest frustr...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

I could easily argue that good statistics will help a beginner or moderate to poor player more than it would help a PGA tour pro. But the value of gaining 0.1 strokes/round is much greater for the PGA tour pro than the Saturday morning drinker/golfer. The key being good statistics. But I'm a math pe...

I stopped using any kind of protective cover. Couple weeks ago I was trying to video my swing, a gust of wind knocked it onto the concrete. CRUNCH! So I just replace the glass. Not that hard. Re: WTF did you shoot today?

There is a difference between a 220 yard shot that finds the green 120 feet from the pin and a 20 yard chip shot that finds the green but is still 20 feet from the pin. The first one is a great shot. The second one is a terrible shot. But how do you differentiate that on a statistical based spreads...

I wonder how pissed people in my family will be if I start sending out $50 "stock" gift cards for Christmas?

Get a $50 apple gift card and realize you can't use it for your Iphone. Maybe next year I wont have to buy any presents.

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

All of these "stat" tracking deals are the same. They are on the verge of being very useful, but not quite there. They just use the same worn out metrics for your game that are easily recorded in any spreadsheet. Yes they present the data a little better than you would be able to in excel, but they ...

It's amazing how much the American consumer is tied down by 'stuff'. I couldn't agree more. I feel like the least consistent person in my handicap range. Look at my last 2 rounds 94, 76. It all boils down to my tee ball right now. I've spent a ton of time working on my putting and have seen great results. Only had 1 round all year with multiple 3 - putts. I'm rolling in a lot more 5-20' pu...
