Re: Smartphone talk

Will have a look, can't do wrong for just $10/year. They'll at least have to map my homecourse since they only have 9 out of the 27 holes. Any experience with how they go with that?

Re: January Golf!!!

I wanna play golf in Portugal. Lucky euro-bastard. What is holding you back? Stay in the same hotel we did (Precise El Rompido****, Cartaya, Spain) starting next week or the week after, including airfares from OC to Sevilla (Spain) or Faro (Portugal), a simple car and greenfees, you're looking at w...

Re: January Golf!!!

From the name of the courses, it sounds like somebody took their wooden shoes to Spain. Nice. Jealous. Yep, we do that every year with a couple of friends. Fly to Portugal boxingday or the day after, drive to Spain from there. Fly back one week later. This time we played El Rompido (hotel...

Re: Smartphone talk

Motorola's still feature SD-cardslots. Personally, I'm still torn between a Moto X Style and the smaller Moto X Play. Bad form to quote oneself, I know. But... in the end I got the Moto X Style ("X Pure" in the US) and a Moto 360 whilst at it. The phone is great, the watch not so much. I bought the...

Re: January Golf!!!

Played the first two rounds of the year on January 1 (teetime at 9:50, El Rompido South course so just a short walk from the hotel - but darned, that was early!) and January 2 (Islantilla, nice course that is completely surrounded by houses that sit without nets or anything just a couple of yards fr...

Re: Solo rounds wont count for handicap

Here is what I find interesting, where I play, we enter our rounds online after the round. Does that mean they are taking our word that we played with somebody? This system has been in use In Europe for as long as I can remember. On every card you play here you need the signature from a marker or i...

Courses are closed for a week now over here. First sub-zero temperatures this night whilst the course is still very wet from all the rain... looks like I won't be playing until the last week of december (trip to Spain...).

Re: Smartphone talk

Coda, my biggest issue with the Nexus phones is not being able to put in extra memory. That's not a problem unique to Nexus tho. Unfortunately, everyone is going that way. All the phones I listed: No access to the battery or expanding the memory. Sealed in with alum. bodies. Motorola's still featur...

I hate wintertime. Got a tee time for just 9 holes at 14:39 today, was just able to finish the ninth. Back to the clubhouse in this:

2016 Rules changes

End of October, thus new rules announced. Among the most significant of the changes in the 2016 edition of the Rules are the following: Withdrawal of Rule on Ball Moving After Address - Rule 18-2b (Ball Moving After Address) has been withdrawn. This means that if a ball at rest moves after the playe...

Re: What pisses you off (on the golf course)?

Bad course maintenance or anything else that makes a course unfair really ticks me off. First cut rough in which you chances are you won't be able to find your ball, greens that have been damaged by machines, bunkers that contain grass or otherwise are not playable, bumpy greens that won't hold a li...

Re: Yet another rules question

I think what it is implying is that if the player is 100% certain that the ball is out of bounds, then a provisional is not allowed. The key, IMHO, is the word "reasonable". Is it reasonable the ball disappears over the wall and than bounces back into play? I guess not but obviously can't judge tha...

Re: Yet another rules question

Did a bit more thinking about this, since you wrote "We all saw it go over the wall". I assume you know that wall marks OB. I doubt you where allowed to hit a provisional, see decision 27-2a/3: -----------8<------------------------ 27-2a/3 Play of Provisional Ball in Absence of Reasonable Possibilit...

Re: Yet another rules question

It is your ball if you identify it as such, there should be no doubt about that. If so, see decision 15/10: -----------8<------------------------ 15/10 Ball Thrown into Bounds by Outside Agency and Played; Neither Player Nor His Caddie Aware of Action of Outside Agency Decision 15/9 states that, if ...

This year (!) 88 to 94. Handicap 14.7, on my homecourse I get 17 or 18 strokes, meaning 89 or 90 is right on. On average 38 putts :facepalm , so I sure know what to work on

I usually take into account who it is and how he plays for the day. If the offender does not have a chance of scoring, I will mention it in a more or less jovial way and be done with it. If the guy is doing okay I will call the penalty.
