Re: Need A Ruling

That makes it a judgement call we cannot make from behind our keyboards. Sounds like a temporary situation? The way you describe it now would call for a local rule. In absence of a LR and no referee available, I'ld invoke 3-3 and report it to the committee. When there is none, I'ld vote to paint the...

Re: How has the Summer been?

Cooler and a lot more rain than usual over here. In the last couple of weeks, we had to pause rounds for lightning three times. That's more than in the previous 10 years together. Lots of short heavy showers, hardly any round in the sun :-(

Re: Need A Ruling

I very much doubt you would get a free drop here. do you have a picture from this "protective coat"? What is the reasoning behind the "free drop"? If you consider the wire to be an immovable obstruction, see R24-2, but do pay special notice to the exception mentioned there: Exception: A player may n...

Re: Golf instructor

I took lessons some time ago with an instructor that at one time lit a cigarette, than started a conversation with one of the "low handicappers" that passed by. I just stopped what we were doing, packed up and left. Paid for half an hour and never talked to the guy again. He left a year or so later ...

Since I guess you didn't write this from the 15th ;) I am wondering: what did you do? Wait for 'm the final 4 holes?

Skipping holes is a sin here, it would be the one time I'ld call the clubhouse.

Sound advice - play the right tees - on a course like that the longer tees can be a double nightmare.

Spot on that analysis, welcome back Dusty! Except ofcourse: jev has stated he wants to play 36 holes in a single day wearing wooden shoes. Those crazy Dutch! "Farmer's Golf" you mean. Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month

Best shot must've been this last weekend. Played Winston Links on Saturday and Winston Open on Sunday. Driving was great, I didn't miss a single drive in 30 holes (we had to cut the Open at 12 because of thunderstorms). First hole of the weekend, PAR4 408 meters (446 yards or so). Great drive, follo...

Re: Spring Golf Support Group

Did I say +20*C last week? It was +29*C on the course yesterday.... (84*F). Yup, the weather is crazy! So was my game though... played the monthly competition yesterday, lots of double bogeys, lost 4 balls (!), but also scored a birdie on the toughest hole on my course. 418 meters / 457 yard PAR4 st...

Re: Spring Golf Support Group

Playing on the white stuff is fun and since we were playing a kingsday tournament I brought orange balls anyway. Snow, sleet, hail and rain in temperatures close to zero accompanied by pretty strong winds however are not. A bit of snow in the winter is okay, but if you plan to play in a short sleave...

This week I participated in a 3-day tournament in the south of the Netherlands. First day, we stopped after playing 9 holes: http://i.imgur.com/Q7tbh7z.jpg Second day: cancelled, course closed Third day: yay, played 18 holes! * sigh * On the bright side, the hotel was pretty nice and with 44 players...

Re: Back yard putting green.

I explained badly I guess. I meant to say you should build this things with lots of rain in mind. When the drainage isn't good enough, the thing will become unusable once the soil underneath is soaked. Those friends of mine built an artificial green on clay soil since they live on reclaimed land. Th...

Re: The Importance of Score

One of the pro's I trained with didn't understand this at all, but I can score badly and still be happy with a round. Or vice versa, return to the clubhouse scored under my personal best and still not be happy because I felt it was more luck than golf. The net effect though is that people tend to wo...

Water, water and water. O, and than there's water. Did I mention water? :D Friends of mine built one in their garden. Nice sturdy white sand underneath, added some concrete to make sure the stuff would stay where it was. And than it started raining... and freezing. They had to take out everything, n...

Re: 2016 Goals

Since we're planning to move this year (hopefully succeed to sell the house before August!) no hard stats, but: - play more rounds, - play more events (competitions / tournaments) - have fun on the course instead of frustration - perhaps, if possible, lower handicap from 14.9 (ugh) to a slightly mor...

That's what I thought about too. Cost may be prohibitive though. One very good feature from artificial grass however: it can easily double as a putting green!

Re: Where are you tracking your stats now?

I put mine in google sheets. Still use golfcard pro to enter them in my phone, than download that into a CSV file that goes into a prepared sheet. I tried GolfShot Plus in combination with my watch for GPS, but that sucks big time. It's a shame because their stats-module is impressive. I also tried ...

Normal: at least one hour prior to teetime. Get clubs from the car, put shoes on, report at the clubhouse (10 mins). Hit the driving range, one bucket, 4 balls I9, 4 balls 7I, 4 balls 5I, 4 balls 3-wood, 4 balls Driver, than some pitches (25 - 30 minutes). Than on to the putting green, chipping and ...
