Re: 100 Swings A Day

I may have heard this. A better alternative to me would be, I hope I get this right, but Harvey Pennick had something where you swing 5-10 times a day, swinging as slow as possible. I mean really slow. According to Harvey swinging as slow as possible ingrained the swing into your brain.

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

For any course other than my home course, my new motto is "MMC" - Middle of the fairway, Middle of the green, Center of the cup. It's worked the last two rounds at courses for which I have had unexplainable struggles.

Re: Frequency of Birdies

I've been thinking about this as I try to figure out how to make more birds. The reality is that birds come in 3 flavors: 1. Getting on to a Par 5 in 2 or at least getting close. 2. Making a longish putt, say over 15 feet. 3. Getting it closer than 15 feet and making the putt. Thanks Captain Obvious...

I could become a real Jason Day fan because his game is so impressive and fun to watch but HE IS SO SLOW - SPEED IT UP.

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Followed up yesterday with a personal best at Neshanic with a 76. Really happy at how I held it together. Didn't have have much of a swing to start, but then thinned a 5i to 4 feet on the 6th hole. Made the birdie putt and from then on I was +2 the rest of the way with two pushed putts and a mediocr...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Prior to today I had been on the unfavorable side of the bad bounce / good bounce ledger for this season. Today was total payback - made 4 longer than usual putts, chipped in, bounced a drive off a tree into the fairway, now even for the season. Shot my 2nd best ever with a 73 at Green Knoll. Out of...

Re: A Glimpse at Golf From the Perspective of a Pessimist

The 17th at my home course has an almost 100 yard pond in front of the green, a creek along the left side of the green, and big trees on both the right and left side of the fairway that block anything but a pretty accurate drive to a pretty narrow fairway. I had shot 80 7 times without breaking it t...

Re: When you are "On" and when you are "Off" - Why?

One perspective is that if you have a decent short game, the difference between a good an bad round is rarely more than 5-10 shots. Once you realize that a few shots makes the difference, it's pretty easy to see how a few bad swings and a few bad bounces can differ from day to day. BTW I'm not argui...

Re: When you are "On" and when you are "Off" - Why?

Not about golf but a story I heard in a class in college: One night Sir Laurence Olivier is performing brilliantly onstage. So much so, that the cast and crew were gathering in the wings to watch "Sir Laurence" as his greatest. When the play ended, Olivier goes backstage and starts pounding things a...

Re: When was your last eagle?

When you only reach a par 5 in 2 about once a year, it's pretty easy to remember that your only eagle was a hole in from the fairway on a par 4 in May 2013.

Re: The Anchoring Ban- Redone

I still believe that guys who were good putters before will be good putters after (i.e. Bradley and Simpson) and guys that were bad putters will still be bad (i.e. Stadler) and that mediocre will be interesting (Scott was actually in the middle of PGA Tour stats). So far I've been very wrong - Simps...

Don't look now, but a late storm is expected to dump 3-5 inches of snow on Sunday in the Northeast. Don't expect it to last long, but could put a damper on a round or two.

Re: How do you make doubles (or worse)?

I go back to that Hank Haney (who I dislike) saying, if you can do these you can play good golf: Two putts or less One shot to green when chipping, pitching, or greenside bunker No wasted shots like chunks that barely advance the ball, OB's, into the hazard With the exception of 3 putts after a GIR,...

To answer as best I can, yes, I think that it is a place to visit for bucket list type experience plus it feels more approachable than some of the other places I've heard about. The resort is wonderful - nice lodgings and good food. I heard the spa was great. Extremely hard and long walking is requi...

Re: Do we want to here about GBOGEY's Streamsong round?

For those who don’t know, Streamsong is Florida’s version of Bandon Dunes. It is built on an old phosphate mine which provides sandy conditions. The dunes from the mine create lots of elevation changes, particularly for Florida. There are two courses: Red by Crenshaw and Coore and Blue by Tom Doak. ...

Sometimes I think that I'm the only one who ever thinks of these things but then Brian posts a topic that I've been thinking about with stats to boot. Starting in mid-June, I averaged 79.5 last year and had about 1.3 birdies per round. When I averaged 80ish the year before, I averaged about 1 per ro...

3 of the 4 courses I play the most have a lot of trees, with my home course being tree lined on both sides for the first 16 holes. During 2011 and 2012 we had 3 severe storms go through, including Super Storm Sandy, where people lost power for 1-2 weeks. None of the key trees that impact play on the...

Since the calendar turns to March tomorrow, it is goal setting time. Michael Breed suggests writing goals down. You should also include what you are going to do to try and achieve those goals. My Goals: 1. Maintain handicap below 7 2. Maintain handicap below 8 on courses that are not my home course ...

The 6i on my 6 25's is 29 degrees 37.25". The 7i on the g30's is 30.5 degrees 37". That was just one model change. But again, the club lengths bother me more than the lofts.
