Re: Snowmagedon 2016

We have 5 straight days coming with highs ranging from high 40's to even almost 60 - should have significant snow melt. Don't know if that is enough to melt everything that is still left, but my guess is that this week determines whether there is an early March start to the season or not in the NE. ...

Re: Snowmagedon 2016

Totally agree - strongest winter winds I have ever seen. I think we are going to get well over 2 feet with one forecast of 30 inches - quite a miss from the 5 forecast on Thursday. NJ is pretty good about digging out but this will take over a day from whenever the snow ends.

Re: Snowmagedon 2016

I've been in the NE long enough now that the amount of snow doesn't faze me, but I really don't ever remember winds this strong during a snow - truly scary out there.

Probably a 3 week set back on range training - bummer.

Re: Tactics advice

Well, it nearly worked. We only lost 6&5! The system here is that we get 3/4 of the remainder of our handicap after subtracting the lowest handicap, but with a maximum allowable handicap of 20! So, my handicap of 27 was worth only 20, less Aaron's handicap of 9, leaves 11. 11 x 0.75 = 8. The other ...

Probably a pretty safe assumption that we will all use Speith 10 times this year. Just hope it's the right 10 times for me.

Anyone can win riding Jordan Speith's coattails. It takes real skill to come in a close second on your first try without Speith. At least that's how I see it.

Re: 2015 Year in Review

My report is mainly very good. Played 68 times through October 31 which was a record by about 10 rounds. Then, thanks to the unusual weather, got out 16 times after October 31 when the usual number is about 5 times. So unbelievable good year. Played 3 bucket list courses: Royal Liverpool, Chambers B...

50 in NJ this weekend, but sticking to my range plan. Best news is that the long range forecast shows no meaningful snow through January. Hoping this El Nino is a repeat of the last one - was playing by early March that year.

Re: How do you practice?

Tried something different today. So I have two separate projects for the next two "non-playing" months. 1. Improve my driver, particularly my ability to hit it both ways; 2. Get better from 150 and in, which is really two separate projects a. Improve wedge distance consistency; b. Improve short iron...

Re: What do you like about your game/swing

My short game is clearly my strength, usually my putting and chipping/pitching are rated a 4 handicap (or better) on Shot by Shot. On my home course, I have confidence that anything inside of 30 feet should be a routine 2 putt, anything inside 15 feet has a decent shot of going in. Same with chippin...

Re: Winter of 2015-2016 Support Group - First "Snow" of Autumn 2015

It was too cold for me today so this was my last round of 2015 (I consider January and February to be part of the 2015 season even if in 2016). For next 9 weeks until daylight savings time, which is when the season usually begins if the weather is good, I am a heated range rat - 1-2 sessions per wee...

Re: 2 Holes 1 Flag

Yes, at the place that I have played with two holes you are supposed to move the flag to the alternate hole that you played to. so you have to wait to figure out your shot as generally the pins are front middle and back middle with one on the right and one on the left. What we did today was after ev...

Re: Good Vs. Bad Shots

Shouldn't have started this - First, I have the book, read the book, believe the book. Then I go out today to the local executive course, partly out of lack of time and partly as it forces me to hit lots of short irons and wedges - 9 of 12 hit green within reasonable distance. One miss was purely hi...

Re: Good Vs. Bad Shots

Can't believe Jason didn't point that out - he loves that book. Funny when I pulled the book out those pages were bookmarked with a score card - I guess I had forgotten. So basically a pro leaves the ball 5% of the distance to the hole from the hole and an 80's player leaves the ball 10%. I'm trying...

Good Vs. Bad Shots

Recently I have struggled with my short irons and wedges. Unfortunately, as I have analyzed my game this year I have found that the difference from playing great (over an extended period, not one round) vs. playing well vs. playing poorly is how well I am hitting these shots. When I played my best e...

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month

Was one of my better shots of the year, but particularly memorable as it may have been my last shot (non-putt) of the year. On a par 5, 2nd shot ended up in the rough about about 4-5 inches above the lip of a fairway bunker. Awkward uneven stance and had to make sure I didn't hit it fat or I'd hit t...

Re: Mud Balls

GAHHHHH I played today and it was really muddy. I had a shot at breaking 80 but on the second to last hole my 8-iron approach went hard left, clear over the chainlink and onto the street. There was probably some poop on the front of the ball that I'd failed to notice. Because it was a good swing, a...

Re: Mud Balls

Saw that article and thought it was really interesting. My bigger takeaway though was how much the mud ball takes away distance. I think that is definitely worth noting and probably should club up when this happens. I will likely continue to play mud balls for the center of the green. Somehow it see...

There was a course here in October that was advertising free rounds of golf but you had to pay a $15 or $20 cart fee. The regular price is like $55 or $60, cart included, so the pricing seemed somewhat legit.
