Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Shot by Shot (which is by no means the bible) breaks drives into 6 categories 1. Fairway; 2. Not fairway but in a similar position so that you effectively accomplished your goal; 3. You can still accomplish goal but needs a good shot; and 4-6 which are types of drives that cost you a stroke. If I wa...

Re: Sage

I have a friend who's been there who says its outrageously fantastic. Apparently alcohol is allowed but drinking in public on the course isn't, so they had to hide their drinks while playing. Supposedly the founder made his fortune through Wal Mart and wanted to join Augusta and was told he didn't f...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

I honestly think my worst is the one I hit about five years ago at number 8 on my favorite executive course in the world (Osgood, Fargo, ND). My tee shot hit the pin on the fly on the medium length par 3, and I never found it. It had to have rolled into the water, but neither I nor the folks who ha...

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

But am I the only person who has lost a ball on the chipping range? The worst part is I use my own balls when practicing putting/chipping because range balls react so differently. No, but I did lose 2 balls over 3 holes on bunker shots this summer - the rough behind the greens was deep fescue. I've...

I'm reading what you are saying Jason and I agree but surprised you haven't jumped on Shot by Shot by now - seems right up your alley.

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Maybe I'm just too old, but right now I find the tags more cool technology than useful technology. I'm sure that it makes stat tracking easier, but I don't think it's that hard the old way to begin with. I've been using Shot by Shot for 1.5 years and I think it's a decent tool. Certainly not that tr...

Still on the West Coast so I got to watch last night's action. U.S. was hot and the Internationals couldn't make a putt. Nice to see a big U.S. lead, but let's face it, The Ryder cup is a competition, the President's Cup is an exhibition.

Assuming a foursome, I would guess $40 tip plus his forecaddy fee.

Re: Golfinasia!

Tonight the LPGA is in Malaysia. Usually it's really hot 'n humid over there which means that the ladies will have less clothing on. Yay. Hate to tell you this, but regardless of conditions the Asian women will be fully covered. Fair skin is seen as much more attractive. How much $ was wasted creat...

Re: 2 Teams, 1 Cup (2015)

To me the media coverage is missing the point. I don't think it matters or is unsportsmanlike to ask someone to putt out anything, especially a winning putt. I always think it is a little strange when someone picks up a clinching putt, even if it is only a few inches. The point to me was the the Eur...

Chrome soft is a really good ball but it is a much higher price point than either the chrome or Solo.

Re: Wanna try another golf ball...

Callaway Chrome was a great ball for the money but has been discontinued. I'd suggest Bridgestone E6 - will stop better than SoLo and should be straighter off the tee.

Re: What's Your Scoring Range?

Ignoring one abnormally good round, 75-86. Not tooting my horn, but from watching others there is a good chance I'm a little more consistent than most people. Still don't like my range though. I certainly don't think a 15 shot or more range over a reasonable period is surprising. What causes the rea...

Re: How do you practice?

I need a new practice regimen for the off season so I'm interested in the responses. To date the pressure games (make 7 out of 10) haven't worked for me, but I think I need something like that if I'm ever going to take my game to the next level. My off season focus (sad to mention the off season, bu...

Re: Bunker notes

I tend to club up quickly in green side sand as long as I can clear the lip. Here is a chart I found on approximate distances you can play clubs from green side. I've never followed it exactly, but I have hit 9i successfully.

Distances
Lw <15
SW 15-20
GW 20-25
PW 25-35
9I 35-45
8I >45

Re: Breakthroughs and Learnings

#2 I have days where I pull a lot of putts to the left. I have a few things that I can do with my hands on the back swing to combat it, but on those "pull" days it is tough to do. I've lately starting trying to stand a little further from the ball - seems to straighten the putts without changing wha...

Breakthroughs and Learnings

I've had a few breakthroughs recently and thought I'd set up a discussion to share when these occur and hope that they last. #1 My home course has a lot of severe slopes. You are likely to have a severe uphill lie on a few holes where the lead foot is considerably higher than the back foot. The tend...

Re: Give up on a club?

I struggle with a two way miss with my driver. I was recently told that my backswing was too long and doing this leads to inconsistency in whether the face is open or closed. So I shortened my backswing and it worked and resulted in much better shot shaping - for about two weeks - so I'm still tryi...

Re: Bunker notes

I had a bunker break through lately as well. I've been doing fine with shorter bunker shots, but with anything that required some carry to the green, say +15 yards, I had a strong tendency to catch all ball and fly it. Pretty stupid since there is usually a lot of green to work with. What I found th...

Re: Give up on a club?

I feel your pain as the driver is the chink in my armor too. Depending on the days my tendency can be pull left, far right, or have perfect control for baby fades and draws. Never quite sure what a round is going to get. If you are sure that it is the Indian and not the arrow, meaning that your driv...

I must admit I am more and more picking my courses around when will the course be less busy than is this the course I want to play. I expect certain things on the weekend, but for those where I try to fit 9/18 in after work, I base my choices on how quickly I can get around / chances to go out as a ...

With all due respect, I think you may be thinking too much. Some advice given to me recently - "You have good impact position. Stop thinking and just swing the club."

Re: Summer Support Group

Fish - you have greater willpower than me, i.e., thinking about golf too much. When I take a break, it lasts 2-3 days max before I need to try to swing again. I first must quote Harvey Penick, "if you have a bad round, shake it off, 2 bad rounds, practice, 3 bad rounds, take a lesson (or something l...
