Drivable Par 4 #2 at 300 yards. Can't see it but yes I drove the green. Missed eagle by an inch.

Funny but Chambers Bay is the other course I've played with vistas like this and its in WA too but not close by.

Round 2 fun and non-fun
  • Driveable par 4 - day one almost made two, day two pulled drive into deep bunker. Four sand shots (none of which were bad) later I two putted for 7
Thought I hit my tee shot on par 3 #4 into a bad bunker. Getting to the green, there was a hidden slope that carried my ball nicely 15 feet from hole
On 14 I hit my 2nd bad tee shot. Hit a perfect, and I mean perfect FW to the only part of the green I could reach safely. I stepped off my birdie putt at 90 feet. No, I did not make it or the 7 footer after.
Hit another perfect FW into the wind at a par 3. Came up 20 yards short in another deep bunker. did not handle the bunkers well. ready for normal golf.

Lots of BLM land in Washington. Once I'm living in a van, I'll probably spend some time there.

I am jealous! :fkno

Sounds like a great trip. We are of to San Antonio to visit the grandkids. No golf clubs going along. May make a stop at Top Golf if we haven't died from heat stroke.
Let's Play 36
GHIN Handicap: 7.8 … 9.2 … Let’s just say I am around a 14!

1. Maintain handicap under 7 - usually goes up to 7.5 at some point during season
2. Achieve average differential of 8.0 - basically a stroke better than last 3 years
3. Play at least one bucket list course - have several potential trips in discussion that could make this happen
4. Secondary goal is to lose +5 pounds which will help my ability to play consistently.
It's cold here today, fairways are mush and greens have gone dormant very quickly. In other words, serious golf is over for the year and no more posting or recording stats IMO. Overall a pretty good year:

1. Met - Handicap never went above 6.5 and ended year at 5.2 although that's .5 artificially low. Still relatively consistent for year.
2. Met - Posted 40 rounds, averaged 8.06 for those rounds, 7.92 including 4 9 hole scores that I posted. 7.8 on my home course and 8.4 on other courses. I guess that gives me something to work on for next year.
3. Met - Played Gamble Sands and TPC Sawgrass - pretty cool.
4. Met - and then didn't meet. Probably about two pounds heavy right now. Have to keep diligent over the holidays.

Overall pretty pleased. I think there's another stroke, maybe 1.5 strokes of improvement out there. Need to play the other courses I frequent more often.

:up @GBOGEY

Funny, I was just checking last week to see how I did meeting goals, but decided to wait a few more rounds even though I am no longer posting for index purposes. Now that you've posted, I guess I'll jump in.

Average for:
Greenside Sand Saves over 33% (Up and down from greenside bunkers only, whether to save par, bogey or otherwise. Presently about 25%.)
According to the Grint I am at 47.78%. I did not enter every round though. It seems high, but probably well above my goal of 33%.

Greens in Regulation from blue tees 52% (presently at around 47%.)
Not quite, but close. Been steady around 50-51% the last few months, mostly from the blue tees. Had a bunch of rounds over the year where I hit 14 (or even 15 once or twice) greens.

Up and downs inside 20 yards, around 50%
Haven't really been able to easily track on the Grint. (Can't break out 20 yards and in from overall up and downs as far as I can tell.) But I'm guessing I'm close. Put it this way, I FEEL like way more often than not, I can get up and down from within 20 yards with a reasonable lie.

Ended year with 5.1 official index (though it probably should be a few 10ths higher. During my 6 week slump, I did not keep score many rounds. I was just out there working on fixes most of the time. My game is back now and am driving the ball as well as ever.

One thing I did not specify as a goal, but is always a mark that I aspire to reach, is 200 rounds played. I really didn't think it would be possible a month or so ago, but if I get in just 3 rounds next week (which looks quite likely), that will be 19 rounds played in November, with only 15 rounds in December required to reach the big 2-0-0. Unlikely, but if the weather cooperates, there's still an outside chance. I won't really be disappointed if I don't reach, but I got to 198 or 199 last year or the year before (can't remember which), so would hate to get that close again without success. Reaching, say, 195 won't bother me nearly as much as if I reach 199...again. If I knew it would be this close back in July, I would have forced myself to play a few more rounds on some of those super hot days when I stayed inside the air conditioned house. What a weakling. I'm kicking myself now.

Doug you got this. Maybe a few days where you can put in 27 or 36 holes now that it's not sweltering hot.

200 rounds is your goal, get on it.
Keep it short stupid.

I did not achieve any goal for 2019. I was on the right track thru June but fell off the cliff since.

Knee surgery last December went well but I’m feeling it now. The most disappointing part in my game is club head speed. Way down. 81 mph tops. Last year 90-94. As I said off the cliff. Driver distance is horrible. For those of you that noticed I have stopped keeping track of stats as I can not get to many greens in reg. Hdcp has ballooned over 12 from a steady 6-7 last year.

That’s my sad story. Been retired 2 years and playing more golf than ever but worst golf in yrs.

Sorry to hear that, Chris. I did not realize you were having trouble at all. I have noticed mostly 70s and low 80s in your scores over this year with lots of birdies, so assumed you were doing fine. I realize you moved up a tee, but still, I thought you were playing like your typical birdie-making-self, just from a shorter distance. Was it something to do with the knee surgery that affected your swing speed so negatively? It can't simply be another year of age. A loss of a mph or two, maybe, but not over 10 mph. That sounds like something else is up.

I made some swing changes early this season. Consequently, I'm swinging FASTER than ever right now and I think I'm a year older than you. I actually gained some good distance this year, across the board, not just driver (except during my slump). How's your back been? I know that WAS a problem for you for awhile. Have you lost distance with everything, or just mainly driver? If it's just driver, I'm guessing you changed something in that swing and don't even realize you did so. That kind of thing has happened to me before. A quick look by the club pro usually helps. It helped me out of my slump this year when he noticed my grip had started to get too weak. I hadn't noticed. I have fixed it since and my driver is 20+ yards longer and irons are 10-15 with everything drawing nicely. Not only due to fixing my grip, but a number of other things I found on my own, which I probably would not have found if I didn't first fix my grip. Point is, maybe you developed some sort of new bad habit, as I did, and you just need to realize it. Just something to consider, particularly if you were doing fine until June and then fell off the cliff. Something changed.

I believe my knee has limited my turn thus little torque. Tough to get excited about going out. But I’ll work on it .

BTW I am older than you.

I wisely set no goals as I am terrible about follow through. Like CeeBee, I am starting to feel my age and the results reflect that.
