This Scotty Cameron fellow owns a money-printing machine, essentially.

Oh no, I just found out I have a 20% discount at callaway through my work. This is not good knowledge to have.
Keep it short stupid.

Upgraded my Titleist 915F2 3W to a new 917F2 3W. Got tired of having to clean out the Active Recoil Channel. The 917 channel is closed, so can't clog up with grass and mud. Otherwise, very similar clubs.

Re: WTF did you buy today?
Active Recoil Channel sounds like some pretty serious tech, not like something to dispense with just because you don't feel like cleaning it. I wonder how closely marketing and r&d depts work together.

Build a bridge and get over it.

Pulled the trigger after a range session a few weeks ago, working with various shafts, and ordered a new Titleist TS2 Driver with Tensei Blue 55 Stiff Shaft. Arrives next week. Elbow better heal quickly.

The wife has been wanting a new fan in my golf room. Looks like thanks to my lunch break she'll get her wish.

Re: WTF did you buy today?
So when I swing my mat slides forward a fraction of an inch. Typically the light is directly above my head (9 to 10 feet off the ground) which makes it way out of the swing arc. But I wasn't paying attention, and over the last 500-1000 swings the mat kept moving forward w/o me adjusting it.legitimatebeef wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 11:05 amWHAT HAPPENjasonfish11 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 12, 2018 2:36 pmThe wife has been wanting a new fan in my golf room. Then yesterday I was "goofing" around trying to hit various shot shapes. I tried to hit a big high fade where my follow through is more vertical and high. Well I clipped it with my 6i and it exploded.
So I learned that before each session I need to adjust the mat.

Re: WTF did you buy today?
Don't attempt a fade while indoors, thought that was common knowledge.

Everybody knows that. (Well obviously not one guy in VA, but everyone else.) Never attempt a fade indoors. Ever. God, how dumb.legitimatebeef wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 1:06 pmDon't attempt a fade while indoors, thought that was common knowledge.

Re: WTF did you buy today?
Okay, so, as just wrote on the DL thread, I got to play with my new TS driver today, even though I am not healed yet. On the plus side, I definitely picked up yardage with the new purchase, even with the ailing elbow and not having the club dialed in yet. I went down in loft from 10.5* with my 917 to 9.5* in the new TS, but hit the ball higher. I got the Tensei 55 Blue, stiff flex in the TS, which is quite similar in specs and characteristics to the Diamana Blue 60 stiff flex I was playing in the 917D2. But the Tensei 55 is lighter and a 1/2 inch longer overall. Though I hit a few with a nice boring trajectory, which is what I like, most were higher than I prefer. I'll have to play around with it a bit more. Overall, though, the new TS is clearly giving me good distance on all strikes, even in the 45 degree temps. It is at LEAST as long as my D2, even when the strike isn't dead center or the ballflight is higher than I like. I had no short drives, though I had some less-than-perfect strikes. I think I am going to like this. My driver swing after my 10 day layoff was not exactly as sharp as it had been before the injury. So once I feel healed and back in sync again, I really think this driver will be consistently longer than my 917 if today is any indication with a mere so-so swing.
Re: WTF did you buy today?
Got a HELL of a deal for golf for the next 2 years. Windmill Lakes in Ravenna, OH is running a deal for a limited number of memberships at $200 for 2 years unlimited golf, just pay $15 cart fee for 18. Play any time during the week and on weekends and holidays play after 11am. So, I'm now committed to playing at least once on the weekends once the season starts.
Looks like I'll be buying a push cart.

Great score Mattf. You cannot afford to pass up a deal like that. Still I wonder, what's the catch?

Re: WTF did you buy today?
There is a goat track near me that offered free greens fees for 3 years for a one time fee of $175. You had to pay cart fees other than that no restrictions.

Re: WTF did you buy today?
From my time hanging around pro shops, it is pretty clear that cart rental fees are big money makers for most public courses. At my old club in CT, as members, we had to pay a cart fee, even if we didn't use one. They banked on cart fees. Some places I know charge $25 or more for a cart. A lot of those regional golf discount cards you can buy all over the internet that offer all sorts of deals at a variety of places in the state or around the area, will offer big discounts or even free rounds, provided you rent their cart at $25 per person. Cart rentals are crucial to the bottom line. For you Matt, if you don't rent a cart, you are winning on this one, unless the course is a sucky place in general.
Re: WTF did you buy today?
I was told at one club that cart fees go towards compensating the golf pros as opposed to the general budget, so I know that some clubs push the fees to make sure the pro doesn't leave or go hungry.
Re: WTF did you buy today?
Never heard that before. Many golf pros either own or manage the pro shop at a golf course and sales are separate from golf course operations. I know at least 4 pros personally where that is the case. They make their money by lessons, along with equipment and soft goods sales. They also run the golf course operations, but do not get paid for it, per se. In return, they get use of the pro shop portion of the building, usually with little or no rent charged by the course. I'm not sure if it is some or most, but many head pros work this way. The assistant pros typically are paid a small salary or hourly rate by the club for the golf course operations portion of what they do, and get a fair percentage of any lessons they give, while the pro gets a percentage as well. It's rare for courses to set lesson rates. Pros do it for themselves. Some courses take a small percentage of lesson fees, but most that I know of, do not. Head teaching pro and/or asst.teaching pro working agreements can be quite different from course/club to course/club. So, I wouldn't be surprised if some places, somewhere, use cart fee proceeds to help with club pro compensation.
Re: WTF did you buy today?
I know this was the case at two NJ courses. Don't know how common place it is beyond NJ.
Re: WTF did you buy today?
The course was voted the 11th best in the state, so it's no slouch. Kent State men's and women's team use it as their training facility. It can be a tough course as well. I asked questions and they answered all of them with no hesitation, so I can't see any downside at this stage. So now I have a "club".

Re: WTF did you buy today?
Not only do you have a club now, you kinda have a free gym membership too. With all that walking, you are gonna be in great shape! So, now you have no excuse. Get your ass out there and play more next year. A LOT more!
