I assume anyone that uses the word "gamer" to describe the equipment they use is not enjoyable to play a round of golf with.

There is a new “Top Golf” “Swing Suite” simulator place here in town. It seems to be a virtual version of the big places. Like a bar/restaurant with a few golf simulators. Think I’ll pass.

I love playing different courses but I get so frustrated when I lose strokes from not knowing a course. Had an 84 but easily could have been 4-5 strokes better if I had known the course better - course was in the mountains and had extreme elevation and I had a difficult time estimating what elevation would do to the shot.

That's when GPS tracking comes in handy. GolfPad and Skycaddie both do elevation. Even a laser with slope would work.

In the world of recreational golf, I feel that a small subset is really bad at it, a much smaller subset is really good at it, and everyone else is roughly competitive with one another. Lord that is so depressing.

Do you local Golf Associations do events?
Southern California Golf Association ( which we pay membership to with our mens club ) has a bunch of things to do.
The member outings are some awesome prices to play private courses, I think I might have planned some mini trips for the year.

Even in town, the best course is only $65 on member day.

Might play Trump in LA too ;) Don't start on the politics.

Do it. I've been a member for 3? years, I think, along with a buddy. Absolutely worth it to get to play some sweet private courses on the cheap. We joined because I wanted to play Hacienda, which is private. I think I've played in a dozen or fifteen outings over that time. Coincidentally, I played Trump LA (not a private course) a few months ago for as low a rate as you can get on otherwise (usually July 4th weekend they have have a special for $155). They tagged my bag while I was there and I haven't removed it yet. Grounds crew looked like any other grounds crew in So Cal, which amused me.

If you join and plan to play in any of the outings down here, let me know and we can maybe pair up. Sometimes they throw in a sack lunch, sometimes a full-on bbq lunch at the turn.

Sure Dukes... will let you know. Was thinking about playing the old TPC Valencia ( the Oaks ) but I will be in Vegas that weekend.

If any one that list sound good to you, let me know, I don’t know which ones are must plays.

I'm playing the one prior to that at Mesa Verde in Costa Mesa. Many are south of L.A. Not sure how much you're willing to drive, if you're mostly interested in the ones north of L.A. (Northridge, Valencia, Simi, etc).

I'm always puzzled by golf logo wear on T-shirts. For example, I got an email just now for Footjoy highlighting some new T-Shirts. Why would I want golf logo wear that can't be worn at most golf courses?

I wear Titleist T-shirts and Footjoy T-shirts all the time when I'm not on the course, just like most guys wear t-shirts with graphics of some sort on them, when they are just hanging out. But, that should be no surprise to anyone here. The Titleist ones are all exclusive to Team Titleist members and not sold at retail, so they are pretty special, to me anyway. Whenever I go to a golf shop, like Dicks or Golf Galaxy, someone inevitably will ask where they can get one. Feels good to say you have to be an active, participating member of Team Titleist to get one, and they are not for sale to the public. Makes me feel like I'm a Titleist snob big shot.

So in 9 days since I last mowed my lawn grew that much. Figured Mike Davis would want that at pebble beach.

It has occurred to me recently that I don’t like 9 holes. I feel like I’m missing half the course when I do. Even when I try to play 9 in the evening I try to schedule such that 18 might be possible. The only time I ever really did 9 before was at 2 executive courses in NJ that I went to to work on short approaches.

Here there is a course with 9 closed for an irrigation project. Doesn’t bother me to play 9 there.

So before today I had played the equivalent of 6 rounds at this course. Zero birdies- nada- not one. I could somewhat blame winter greens but one day missed two shorties. Went to play 9 today- birdied 3 of first 5 holes and missed another on the sixth by inches.

Sometimes golf doesn’t make sense.

Funny, given its so hard for me to find 5-6 hours of daylight outside of other things I prefer 9 holes. The issue I have is a course that would charge me $40 to walk 18 wants $31 to walk 9. I get economies of scale but this is dumb.

Actually I'd love to see 3 and 6 hole tracks offered, but they will never catch on.

I really just need to be a member somewhere that I can go out hit 20 range balls play 5 holes and head home. But I don't play enough for that to make sense.

Nine holes feel partial and incomplete to me almost every time. If I lived next to a golf course I'd probably feel different though.
