Btw, I played yesterday, a very poor round of 86 (par 72, 69.5/117) with a starting (and finishing) temp of 59F, with winds gusting at less than 10mph, so with my index of 10.0 (10 course handicap), the challenge score would be: (86 -10) + (59 -32) + (72 - 69.5) = 105.5. Not at all in the ballpark of BK's performance, lol.
I'm gonna go low this time...

Another round at Fox Hills but Woods to Lakes. Course handicap of "8". Start real feel was 37 degrees and ending was 39 degrees (real temp was 38-41 degrees with a slight 5+ mph breeze). Par 70.

So 73 - 8 + 2 + 38 - 32 = 73. If we made a greater adjustment for the course rating, it was a decent outing. :yess

I really played well on the 2nd (Lakes) nine. It is the tougher of the two nines. Since there were literally only 3 of us on the entire 27 hole layout, I played a bonus 9 (Hills). I should have just gone home. :facepalm

Another great round by the Frozen Balls Challenge leader!

I don't think we can just subtract the course rating or do 72 - course rating, as has been suggested above: the course rating needs to be taken against par for it to be fair across a variety of courses (par 68 to par 73, say). :school Regardless, BK's score is quite impressive! :banana

My money is on CeeBee. He can go low and has a somewhat better venue in "South New Jersey" (aka Delaware). GBogey has also had flashes of brilliance so I may be playing for 3rd place. Anyone below the Mason-Dixon line or west of the Mississippi may as well hang it up now.

I rode around in a cart for 18 holes giving advice to my two nephews today. 52*, maybe 2-3 mph wind and cloudy. Score: 0. Slope 137. Does that count?

I didn't think so.

Okay, so I played in some pretty damn cold weather today (at least for where I live). There are a million posts above with confusing rules, so I'll post my stats and you guys figure it out.

HCP 19.2
ESC Score 92
Rating/Slope 65.7/115
Course HCP 20
Diff 25.8

Starting feels like temp 43
Ending feels like temp 61
Bluto did it

Just so no one thinks it is all milk & cookies here in the chilly mitten, we played yesterday and my results were not phenomenal. I estimate the average "felt like" temperature was around 50. Actual temps ranged between 50-55 with a 10 mph average breeze. It was sunny so things were pretty nice.

I shot a gross 79, par 72, course handicap of 8. Since everything was soaking wet we played the shortest tees available, just a touch under 6,000 yards.

79 - 8 + 50 - 32 = 89. Definitely need to be in the 30's in order to be competitive.

Shot a 79 yesterday (+7), with a 10.0 index meaning a 10 course handicap on this par 72 69.6/117 course. Starting temp was 58F but rapidly declined to finish at 51F, with some wind around 10mph and a good drizzle/light rain (needing the rain jacket for the last 4-5 holes).

So, let's say a frozen balls score of: 79-10 + (58+51)/2 -32 + 72-69.5 = 94 (or 92 if you don't count the course rating adjustment). While it's a marked improvement above my previous round rated at 105.5, it's still a very long way from being in the 70s like BK. And that's about the best I can do, as I beat my course handicap by 3, and the weather was pretty terrible (cold and windy, and rainy) by my standards. ;)

 Nice shooting and with a taste of what the northern tier experiences. I plan to give it a go today if the drizzle stops this afternoon. Should be really nice with 40 degrees, 15 mph breeze and overcast. I won't be complaining about the sun being in my eyes. ;)

So given that no one (including myself) understands the rules now.

How about this. Everyone post their rounds in this thread.

On March 15th, each person will take their best "frozen" round and then we'll have a poll. The winner of that poll wins. That way you can vote based on what ever criteria you want.
Keep it short stupid.

Shot 78 this morning. 40* with a 10mph wind. felt like high 30's. Course hdcp 7.

78-7=71+40-32=79. Is that right bk?

Yes although you are short changing yourself by not using "real feel"

I don't know how to calculate "real feel" but it is worth a few strokes. As I said earlier elsewhere, nicely done.

Mildly embarrassed by the easy course but I did play decently. 72, 7 handicap, par 70, feels like 35 degrees.

72 + 2 - 7 + 35 - 32 = 70.

I may not have another round in 2016 as we are supposed to get an inch or two of snow and after Wednesday we won't have a temperature above 32 degrees for the balance of the week. Not likely I will do better, either.

BK has a set a standard that is more or less impossible to reach. This competition is probably over, 5 days into December. If anyone here is likely to catch him it is not me. I cannot even break 90 lately it seems like. I am still going to try though. It was a long time ago but I have shot low 70s at Dyker in the winter. I know this is really grasping for a desperate sliver of hope but what else do we have at this point? Nothing.

Yeah I'm with you beef. I feel like I have to have a personal best round in sub 40 temps to have a chance.

But this weekend is looking promising (weather wise at least). I'm planning to get out Saturday. The high is 41 and the low is low 30's. But sun and no wind. So a perfect day.

Just need to go out and shoot sub 75 and I'm golden lol.

Play the "Senior" tees. Mid-70's on a 5,300-5,500 yard track is very possible. In off season conditions, 6,500 yards may as well be 7,200 yards for me as far as scoring. "Play easy when it's freezy"

Ugh I'm not sure I can do that. I would feel like I'm cheating. I shot 39 from the blues last Thursday (3350 yards), the golds would knock it down to 2769 yards on that same 9.

If I played from the golds on the course I normally play:
All 4 par 5's would be driver/iron assuming good shots (one would be 381 yards).
The par 4's would max out at 347 yards. Assuming 2 good shots that is 4i/wedge.

I can see moving to the whites, but moving any further up I'd have to DQ myself.
Keep it short stupid.
