Re: December Golf!!!
I would have said that December golf for me was a relative rarity. I checked the stats, however, and over the past 8 years, my round on 12/7 would only have qualified as the 5th latest round. Counting 2016, I have played in December each year since 2011. I think my discovery that Fox Hills stays open year round was the driving force rather than climate change.
Got a good work out Sunday and this morning shoveling 10 inches of white crap, in between watching the 1st place Lions win.

Re: December Golf!!!
We are expecting some wintry mess this weekend, but thanks to some subsequent weird high temperatures we might get through it mostly unscathed. Goddamnit I am setting my sights on playing on the golf course next week.

Re: December Golf!!!
It's about 25* right now here in Frederick MD, with a wind chill making it feel about 5*. I think they closed the course for the day. Too bad, might have had a shot at the Frozen Balls Challenge in these conditions.
Who am I kidding? There's no freakin' way I am going out there today. I wouldn't make it through 2 holes. I am a wimp when the wind is blowing this hard. I don't think I could have handled this wind in 45 degree temps let alone 25. It's gusting over 35 knots at times.

Same here in Virginia Beach the wind SUCKS. It was 39* this morning with a wind chill of about 18*. I opted to not go to the driving range this morning before work lol.DougE wrote:It's about 25* right now here in Frederick MD, with a wind chill making it feel about 5*. Tomorrow its supposed to be 19* with a wind chill near 8* I think I'll skip the range tomorrow as well.

Re: December Golf!!!
I feel like I could survive out there okay, but the swing would be heavily compromised by layers of fleece and down and gore-tex.

Re: December Golf!!!
December golf is alive and kicking balls. Aside from some possible rain here or there, the rest of the month is forecast to be extremely golfable.

Re: December Golf!!!
The wife told me "why don't you play 36 holes tomorrow".
I'm not sure if this is a present or a trap. I'll find out after both rounds lol.

I am thinking this is more along the lines of she has something she wants to do without you, but reserves the right to hold this over your head the next time she wants something. So, TRAP.jasonfish11 wrote:The wife told me "why don't you play 36 holes tomorrow".

I will stand in the fairway, I want to be out of your range.

Very nice. I had to settle for walking the course with my wife. Sort of a melancholy stroll but with all the snow pretty much gone, there is hope for ... JANUARY GOLFCeeBee wrote:Shot a tidy 78 today. Swing felt good.

Currently 64º and sunny here. Jesus of Nazareth, what is going on? Enough torturing us with all these ominous portents and whatever. Enough of this beating around the bush. Just press the apocalypse button and let's end it all already.

Re: December Golf!!!
Yes, that nice weather is going to get all the NYC golfers out on the course. Going to be a mob scene. Why can't the weather be barely acceptable? It is still playable but most of the idiots stay home or head to the bowling alley. There is something so wrong when one has to stay away from the course because it is too nice.legitimatebeef wrote:Currently 64º and sunny here.

Re: December Golf!!!
I am on the Big Island of Hawaii for the holidays (we have a place there), so of course I am playing golf: just shot a decent 79 with a birdie on the first and last holes, both par 5s. I played later in the afternoon in 2.5 hours and I had to wait on a 5-some following a 4-some for the last 3 holes.

I'm gonna go low this time...

Re: December Golf!!!
Went played yesterday mainly because of BK's prodding - felt guilty to pass up on a 50 degree day. I typically don't play past early December so I had forgotten what I hate about winter (and Spring) golf - not the temps or the wind but the mud! I felt like I was standing in 2 inches of mud all day - I thought my push cart was going to leave ruts in the fairway. Yuck, sorry call me a wimp but I prefer different conditions. May encourage me to hit the range instead of playing in the coming weeks.
On the bright side, I for once recognized the conditions early and adjusted my shots instead of waiting 16 holes to figure it out. Any chip/pitch needed some extra pace and any shot with a little trajectory that landed on the green would stay on the green, so I pretty much went right at the flag whenever I could. I had one shot plug so deep that over half the ball was buried.
