2017 Spring Golf Support Group Thread

Postby legitimatebeef » Thu Feb 23, 2017 12:25 pm

More crazy unseasonable weather here. Most normal people are probably rejoicing. Naturally I am not. My only hope, and this is grasping, is that people are going to go nuts and get their fill now, and maybe the peak season won't be so peaky as it is following a harsh winter. Most people get tired of their own shitty golfing at some point. How can they not? Hopefully this year, that point will come sooner.

We played yesterday. The course had a "first come, first served" policy rather than turn on their automated tee sheet, bring employees in to take calls, etc... We figured that arriving at 11am on a Wednesday would find a relatively open course. The retirees would have already arrived and be well into their rounds. People skipping work (like me) would wait until Noon or 1pm to sneak out. The perfect plan.

When we arrived there were 15 golf carts lined up on the 1st tee. :facepalm The problem in America isn't unemployment, it is all these bums sneaking out of their jobs on a Wednesday at 11am :fkno

For whatever reason the pace was miserable. We paired up with another twosome. Unfortunately one of our new friends clearly had undiagnosed logorrhea. To add to the pain, he had an extremely elevated, but incorrect, opinion of his golf game. He wanted to help all of us as well as be the #1 cheerleader. HE WOULD NOT STOP TALKING except for the 10 seconds it took us to actually hit the ball. It took all my will power not to club him over the head with my sand wedge on the back nine and bury him in a shallow grave.

This weekend the high temperature is supposed to be 40 degrees. Hallelujah!! :yess
Let's Play 36
GHIN Handicap: 7.8 … 9.2 … Let’s just say I am around a 14!

Spring? High winds at the moment (43 mph with gusts to 64), spring seems far, far away.

Yes, it was about 74 degrees or so today, and sunny. The course was pretty full. I already miss winter golf, where I sometimes feel like it's my own private course. However, today's beautiful weather, along with the fact the the ball was traveling more like mid-season distance, uplifted my spirits and confidence, contributing to one of my best rounds in months. Though my score was pretty good, my play was even better. Felt fantastic. Gonna play my 25th round of the year tomorrow! And, it's not even Spring yet.

I've not played since about two weeks before christmas.

Since then I've only had one range session of about 56 balls, two weekends ago (accurate shots, but no distance at all - I swear my 7i shots were going the same distance as my PW shots...about 90yds!)

Tomorrow I play in our Bogey/Par competition. I've no idea how I'm going to feel. Wish me luck.

There obviously is a little Martian hiding in the forum cellar that plays around a bit with z's. :D

Played yesterday. temps around mid 70's. Everybody in MD must be here. Parking lot and surrounding area so full it resembled a used car lot. The nines were in reverse today. Sat with starter on tee 10 waiting for an opening. Watched several groups top, scull, slice and bounce hit some absolutely pathetic shit off that tee. I was a single so the starter put me with a couple guys and another single. That guy rode with me. The whole round he was fucking around with his I-pad and trying to light his cigarettes with a bum lighter. Click, click, click. Drove me half nuts. I finally pulled my bag after finishing #5 and lugged that heavy bitch the 800 yards to an open #9. It ain't no carry bag. Took ESC score for 6,7,8. :fk

It was a social experiment. I wanted to know how much time would pass before someone would mention it. Let's just say it took a lot longer than I had hypothesized.

So then, I win. Splendid.

Well, I think I finished two down.

But, all things considered (not played for over two months, hardly practised, cold weather) that wasn't too bad.

AND I broke 100. Only by the one shot, but, you know, it's a boolean. :thumbs
