Thanks for the clarification; that makes total sense.

Well, it (net 80) was still good enough for 14th place out of 22. But all I can think is, if I'd kept that 13 down to a 6 I'd have been 5th or 6th (depending on countback).

Next time. Next time...
Golf is too hard. Stupid golf.

I am in the same boat after a tournament. Hard not to think about missed opportunities, Fortunately the last event I finished 5 shots behind the winner. There was no way to mentally reconstruct the round so that I won, unless I hit the winner on the head with a 9 iron and buried him in a shallow grave.

When trailing T. Woods by 10 shots going into the final round, a pro was asked what he needed to shoot to win. He answered, "Tiger."
Let's Play 36
GHIN Handicap: 7.8 … 9.2 … Let’s just say I am around a 14!

I went out to play a practice 9 holes after work last night with a couple friend; walking after 6 is free so it's perfect for this.

It's not the most difficult muni around, but challenging enough (I usually shoot 81-83). I managed to shoot a +3 39 with a lost ball triple bogey and 11 putts. I had the triple, 2 bogeys, 2 birdies, and 4 pars. It was an encouraging round. It wasn't the best ball striking round i've had, but i was usually just off the green and able to chip it close.

I played 31 holes today. The first 18 turned into 22 holes as I kept running into the same slow group in front of me with no one behind me. Rather than sit and wait with my hands on hips for them to hack it all over, then line up every putt from 5 directions on the green (like it really mattered by that point) , I went back and played two holes I already played. Caught up with them again another hole later and went back and played two more. It was hard to keep my head in the round. Shot 39 on the back (which we were sent off of first today), then once we caught up to the slow down, shot a 43 on the front, with 3 doubles and 1 bogey. Played from the white tees. When I finished I looked at the totally empty back nine and couldn't resist. Played another 9 from the blue tees, and hit the ball off the tee great. Was playing an average of 30 yards longer per hole and on virtually every hole, I had shorter approaches than I did from the whites earlier in the day. Can't remember driving the ball that well in a long time. Shot 41.

41/39=80. Below average GIRs, but lots of tap-in up & downs.

Really pleased with how I grinded it out today. Only hit 3 fairways and 5 GIRs, but had a +7 78 after a +5 in the first 4 holes. Got up and down 6 times due to good chipping and putting. Had 3 really good recovery shots from the wrong fairway.

These do tend to be the most satisfying rounds. When I start out poorly but am able to "grind out" a decent score, especially if that involves a lot of par saves, it really feels good afterwards. It's that feeling of overcoming adversity. However, I also know that I can't do that every round. Even when my wedge game is on fire, I'm going to miss some putts eventually.

shot an 86 at Falcon's Fire in Orlando. Like a dumbass, put my RBZ2 in the bag for a last hurrah before trading it in. hit push slices like crazy. Miracle was that we got no rain, despite cart girl baiing aftr nine saying rain was an hour out.

Southern Dunes tomorrow.

I have a feeling that I'll never again see a 300 yard drive. It's not something I strive for anymore, but the real reason is because even when I was playing every day and hitting a good 200 balls on the range every week, which is going back about two years now, my swing speed was decreasing. I'll never break the record I set when there was a 50 mph wind at my back (and my dad was with me...one of the most satisfying moments of my life). Does it count, though, if it ended up in a greenside bunker?

I have only played in the Orlando area once for a 4-day trip back in November 2011. Coincidentally, I too played Falcon's Fire and Southern Dunes. You'll like Southern Dunes, but it does run through a development. I also played Celebration and Orange Lakes (Palmer Course) while I was there. What else are you playing while you're there?

I played another scramble today with work people. Actually only got in 7 holes due to rain.

Before the round I stepped on a pine cone and rolled my ankle. I heard it pop and now it's the size of a baseball.

So I'm guessing golf is done for the next couple days.

Sometimes this game makes me scream WHY WHY WHY? - both good and bad. Today was the good. Went out after work and shot 74 on a par 71 .... with 3 penalty strokes, 2 on one hole, and none of them caused by my nemesis driver. The nemesis driver hit 8 of 12 fairways, and after an adjustment on the 5th hole (hit 2 of first 3 fairways but the swings weren't pretty) hit 6 of 9, all 9 boomed, and the 3 misses were only 2-3 yards off the short stuff.

So if I make the same adjustment with the nemesis driver the next time I play do you think I will hit 6 out of 9 fairways? Last Saturday I went 1 for 10 with the driver - WHY, WHY, WHY?

So today my ankle is about 2x the correct size and pretty obviously a mild sprain. I'm kind of impressed I was able to play 16 holes on it yesterday (we played 9 before the tournament). And I struck the ball ok when I was able to convince myself to actually transition my weight to my ankle.

Shot a sort of hung over 91 at Southern Dunes on Monday. Again, amazingly enough, did not get rained on, except for a few sprinkles. This course was not CPO, but also only had cart paths by tees, greens and par 3s. Hit an amazing 2 fairways. Played two hours earlier, but cart girl bailed after 11 holes. Got really dark, wind blew, but never rained. This was my first round at the course after they rebuilt all of the greens, which were in amazing shape. By the way, you know you are screwed when they put a bunker rake on all of the carts.

As far as being amazed about not being rained on, they had extreme droughts and lots of forest fires, until about the first of the month (right as I was going down there.) Since the first of the month, the Orlando area has had rain every day, and has received about 10 inches of rain this month.

Yesterday, I played a course that was not there when I lived there, and was recommended to me by one of my regular playing partners: Waldorf Astoria Golf Club. Local forecaster swore up and down the heavy rain would start about 5am and continue for the whole day. Well, big storm moved through about 4:15, but nothing on radar behind the initial line.

Got out at about 7:40 (second tee time) with the course CPO, and I must say it is a spectacularly conditioned course. Shot another 91 without getting rained on at the course. Lost a few shots thinking I hit good shots, but got into a bad area, but was a learning experience. I would highly recommend the course along with Southern Dunes to anyone going to the Orlando area.

Nothing great (81) but it was really windy and scoring was tough. It was fun seeing balls literally bounding down the fairway. We have had little rain in 5-7 days and everything is nice and firm. I may have cracked the 210 yard barrier!!
