Thank you Doug. I dunno if it was the clubs, but they were certainly money today.

Cracked 90 for the first time at Da Club for an 88. Driver was better after I made an adjustment to make it an upright lie. The hybrid is an absolute beast the couple of times I hit it. All in all I was not disappointed.

That's awesome Matt. There's something that Bob Rotella says about when you score a personal best, it shows your potential so you capable of doing it again. Just some personal advice - don't get ahead of yourself and get frustrated trying to do it again. It will come with time. But I fully expect you to start showing lots of scores in the 80's. No reason it shouldn't be routine for you at some point in the near future.

Thanks mate. It was my personnel best by 9. I played yesterday and just ran out of puff. Shot a 37/50 for 87. I fully expected not going that low again for a while but I really didn't think that I'd crash and burn on the back 9 that badly. Oh well, I'm taking the next weekend off for some projects around the house and will be in full swing again over the 4th of July holiday.

Re: WTF did you shoot today?

Had a nice round today. The first four holes at Worthington Manor can really beat you up. Four tough-ass par 4s. Normally I am thrilled to get through those first four with a score of 19 or better. Today, I was at 17 through those holes, and better yet, was driving the ball well and hitting my irons as good as ever. Was one over par through the first eight holes with one birdie, made after hitting a 9i from a fairway bunker to 7 feet. (On the same hole I holed out for eagle with 6i from a fairway bunker a couple months back.)

Standing on the ninth tee, a par 5, I felt another birdie coming on. Then I surprisingly hooked my drive nearly OB. But, luckily it caught a fence which stopped it AND gave me a free drop for relief from an immovable man-made obstruction. I thought, 'this must be my lucky day.' My second shot which was to be a long layup short of a hazard came up shorter than expected, though I hit it well. It ended up on a downhill slope 130 yards from the pin. I had to go over a hazard to get there in regulation, but the steepness of the downhill lie was going to make it difficult with the 8 iron I would need to get there. It really required a lot more loft to get the ball on a trajectory that would be high enough to clear the hazard. I needed like a 50 or 54 degree wedge, yet with a 6 iron-length shaft. There was no way I could clear with a regular length wedge. Instead, I took an 8 iron and dumped it right into the center of the hazard. So, penalty (4) and dropped behind the hazard 75 yards from the front pin, hitting 5. Spun a perfect 58* LW 6 feet past the hole, dead online. The green slopes sharply back to front. With all the spin I had on the ball, I thought it would spin back down the hill and might even go into the hole, considering the round I had been playing to this point. Unfortunately, it stuck up on the slope behind the pin; I don't know how.

Now I had a downhill bogey-saver putt that I could do no more than simply touch with my putter if there was any chance to not run it 6 feet by. There was no steering involved. Just a very slight tap to get it restarted down the hill. It rolled straight at the pin.......until about 6 inches before going in, when it bounced left over something and burned the left edge, rolling past by only a few inches. Tap in for double. Far from the birdie I envisioned on the tee 10 minutes earlier. Still carded a 39 on the front.

Thought my good fortune was over after that, but went right back to the great game I had before the ninth and proceeded to put together a good back nine as well, carding a 38, for a total of 77 with a second birdie off a perfectly executed approach to 3 feet on the 14th. With the course playing as difficult as it is right now, that felt like a 69. I hit 14 of 18 greens today, which is my best of the year, I think. When you factor in one 3 putt, the penalty stroke and a couple missed birdie putts from inside 10 feet, I know it could have been at least a few stroke lower. Then again, tomorrow's another day.

Backed up yesterday's 77 with another one today. Things are clicking right now. Feeling in great control out there. Only 10 GIRs and no birdies today, but hit 79% of fairways. And got up and down 3Xs for par and two more times to save bogey. Satisfying day.

Something tells me the Dougster's not too bothered by the heat and humidity what with all his microfiber shirting, and cooling towels, and vacuum flasks and what not.

Hot, but bearable, so far. Supposed to get hotter as the week progresses. Funny, when I play well, the weather doesn't get to me that much. Of course, it's only been high 80s to 90 lately with just one day of really humid weather. Forecast for mid-90s the next three days. We'll see what my tune will be as the temps and humidity rise and my scores go back up.

There are no cooling towels or vacuum flasks for me, but there is plenty of microfiber shirting going on!

My weekend was the opposite. Since my 4 week nirvana period I have had 3 weeks of purely mediocre golf - averaging 3 strokes a round more than before. This weekend included over two rounds: 5 unplayable drives, 4 bladed wedges, and two shanks. Have to admit yesterday's shanks got into my head the rest of the round. Really discouraged today.

10 rounds in June and 5 9 holes - not bad for me.

Sigh. No nirvana period for this guy. Shot an 88 this weekend with an extremely up and down round.

FINALLY! :yess

I played my "home" course this morning. Low expectations as I shot an 88 Sunday and generally have been a shadow of my former golf ability. Played with two good senior players who sport handicaps in the 2.5 to 4.0 range.

Shot a 76. Something seemed to click with my game today. There have been signs lately but I always let things get away. Not today. Of course some bad shots were made but overall it was a very comfortable round. As with all things golf, the next round might see some regression but at this moment in time, I am content.

Another 80 for me today. That's three 80s and three 77s in the last week. The 77s make me happy. The 80s, well, not as much, but enough to keep me interested and ready to try again the next day.
