I walked off of hole number 9 with a 51. That included a quintuple bogey (I think that means five) on a par 3 and a triple bogey on a par 5. It was not going well. If you had told me, walking off of hole number 9, that I would be sitting on the 18th tee with a chance to break 90, I would have laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed. That's exactly what happened. I ended up with a bogey on 18 for a 90, but that means I shot a 39 on the back.

With two 3-putts and a double bogey.

5 6 8 5 4 6 5 4 8 51
3 6 3 4 6 5 4 3 5 39

One green in regulation on the front. Six greens in regulation on the back.

My chipping was stellar. Three saves (one for bogey) and a chip in birdie on the back on one of the greens I missed. The two 8s on the front nine were both the result of penalty strokes (three total, all off the tee). My double on hole 2 was the result of a tricky bunker shot that I biffed. The double on hole 11 was the result of having to take an escape shot on a long par 4.
51/39 -- nice turnaround
I'm gonna hit a provisional

I have one that can top that one a couple of years ago, I shot a 52 on the front, and lost my tee shot on the par 5 10th hole, took my drop from the lateral, and reached the green, two putted for par, and proceeded to shot 35 on the back for an 87.
I will stand in the fairway, I want to be out of your range.

Always best to have the better nine the final one. Very few experiences are as bad as the one you when you have a "3X" on the front nine and then butcher the second nine. Had a few of those in my time and it is 2 hours of torture.
Let's Play 36
GHIN Handicap: 7.8 … 9.2 … Let’s just say I am around a 14!

My only really comparable round was in April of 2013 when I hit a 48 on the front and a 40 on the back. That included sinking a 130 yard shot (for bogey) on 18. Had a chance to stay under 40 on the back, but I three-putted.

Played early bird 9, first time doing that, but I wanted to try the tags. Played erratically, shot a 46, but the tags worked well.

Missed just three fairways, all on the front nine, but the best drive was for a mere 178 yards. Terry Koehler (sp?) would be proud of me. It's all about accuracy, baby!

Three-putted twice, one-putted twice. Three pars, all GiR. Short game was ON!

I had another similar round today than the ones I posted about earlier this week. Shot a 49 on the front and rebounded with a 41 on the back.

5 5 4 5 5 6 6 6 7 49
4 5 5 3 6 4 5 5 4 41

I was +8 on holes 7, 8, and 9.

Hole 7 had a penalty stroke.

Hole 8 had a god awful pin position that led to a three putt.

Hole 9 had a 4-putt.

I also had two doubles on the back. One was due to a penalty stroke. The other was due to a stupid mental error.

The big deal about this round, though, was that I figured out my iron play on the range. My ball striking was terrible on the front nine, but all it took was one good swing on number 10, and I started trusting it again. I had no greens in regulation on the front. I hit six of them on the back, and two of the misses were fringe putts.

Good round. It's always nice to find your swing during the round, just always seems to click towards the end. At least you got it mid-round.

Got much worse today. It started bad, and it finished bad. I wasn't doing anything well. Except hitting out of bunkers. Two up-and-downs, both out of bunkers. Unfortunately, both were after my chip shots over the bunker didn't quite make it, so they were both for bogey.

Shot a 53 on the front and a 47 on the back. It has been almost three years since I shot 100 or higher. Feeling a bit sick after my round today.

Sort of seeing some light, but it is probably the train about to run me over. Started a little rough, stabilized the middle of the round, then fell apart scoring wise at the end of the round.

It was all about the putting today. I missed a lot of easy ones. Four three putts and four missed makeable putts from inside of five feet, and that would have gotten me inside of 80. Conversely, I went up and down five times with great chip shots to shave strokes.

It's surprising how one bad stroke can really louse up a round. On 10, I thought I had a great drive. The ball apparently ricocheted off to the right when it landed, and I found myself with an unplayable lie in a tree. Even after taking a penalty stroke and two club lengths, I didn't have a play down the fairway. Another one on 14...crazy bounce off of the left side of the green into a water hazard forced me to take a stroke and distance penalty on a 100 yard approach that I thought I had nailed.

My doubles on 13 and 15 were the results of three-putts.

I also took a penalty stroke on number one, but I was able to save bogey with a great ship shot.

It really felt like everything was going great except the putts today.

6 5 3 4 5 5 5 3 5 41
7 4 3 6 6 5 5 4 5 45

Total is 86. Drops my handicap down a partial stroke. I should be happy, right? It's just that I felt like I played so much better.

Took a day off from work and went to Birmingham to play a round. 32* when I teed off (surprised they let me out at that temp.) and 38* when I got finished with really wet conditions from an overnight rain.

Been practicing hard, working on the swing... just great when it all comes together.
I caught it on video. Enjoy.

Shot +21 on a little executive course today. Horrible. And I went up-and-down six times due to great chips (had one birdie). It could have been much, much worse.

94. four penalties. No birdies. Hit the ball better than expected though. Felt like I was playing "golf" not "golf swing" which was a relief. Had one of those days where I got to hit a draw here, hit a cut there, etc. Had fun trying to shape the ball. Fought a hook off the tee, but on the other hand no slices today which is a miracle.

It was 38º at start with a brisk wind and got up to 48º. Walked and carried. Started to really feel my laziness on that steep hill climb on #15 on the back.
