Anything, Dog

Postby Coda1850 » Wed Aug 26, 2015 3:36 pm

I like dogs... feel free to add any dog shit here.

So I've been dog-less for nearly a full year - Duke died last September. My wife has her barking cat, a Maltese. I'm at the point where I need to figure out what kind of dog I want. I think I have it narrowed down to: another Boxer, a French Bulldog, or a Bullmastiff.

Anyone wanna pick my next dog? What do I get? I'm kinda stuck even tho there's likely no wrong answer.

Edited to add adult/puppy picture of Duke:

Duke's a great looking dog. I vote against french bulldog. They don't seem to be the heartiest. Our friends have one and he is kind of a mess as he gets older. Health problems, and he just sits around wheezing. I vote boxer, I like them, they usually have good personalities.

I'm also a year dog-less ...

If I get one again, going to be another Boston Terrier. It'll be tough to decide to get another though, still miss my best buddy.

I vote Boston Terrier!

?? Barking cat??

I would suggest not a boxer, as try as you might, you may end up comparing the new guy/girl and Duke and there is no winning the comparaison there. How about a good old lab: they come in different colors, you know? :)

We're thinking about an English Bulldog when my wife's yappy fluff thing goes. She's losing her sight a bit and half deaf so we think it won't be long off.

Sorry to hear about your Boxer, and i understand the void left. I couldn't make it a full year after we lost our Boston.

We got a mixed breed (designer breed?) next. We didn't want another Boston that looked like our old one, and we've always wanted a Frenchie, but never got one due to health issues and price. The happy medium? A Frenchton. He's a 50/50 Bostons Terrier/French Bulldog and he's awesome. He's basically a taller, thinner Frenchie and comes in at a respectable (and durable) 25lbs. ALSO, they're a TON cheaper than the full French Bulldog. They were bread together to get rid of some of the health issues (eye problems of a Boston and respiratory issues of a Frenchie.)

This is Dexter.

I'm leaning toward a boxer. The barking cat thing comes from a smart-ass @ my work. I get a chuckle out of it. My wife's maltese doesn't act very dog-like so I think it fits him. I never was that into labs & I also like the dogs with shorter coats (although theirs is nearly as short as a boxer).

My wife's dog is also named Dexter. That cross breed makes sense - I have a friend who has a boston terrier with horrible eye problems.

I think these breeders have waiting lists too. I'm not sure how long this might take. Also, I might wait for another fawn/black muzzle male.

That looks like the face of a good dog. Ringo has a similar vest.

He is a common mutt from S. Carolina. I suspect he is part "Carolina dog" aka American dingo. He is awesome. Hopefully when his time is nearly up, cloning will be a viable option.

The only clothes I would let the wife put on my dog.

If I'm remembering correctly she brought up putting boots on him because of the winter.

I vote for a boxer too. Lovely dogs, strong as a ox, just the right size and very friendly if need be. Terrific dogs!

The other night out on a walk, this obnoxious retriever was approaching from opposite direction, looking right at my dog probably wanting to tussle and what not. Ringo I guess didn't like the look of him, goes straight to the nearest tree and marks it. I notice he will mark when rowdy dogs are nearby. I don't know if that amounts to a fuck you or whatever, but it sure seems disdainful to me. In general when he decides he doesn't like a certain dog they are dead to him. Won't even look in their direction. Nope just squirt some whiz on the nearest landmark and keep on walkin. Then I realized that my dog, has somehow grown up to be like its master.

My wife is demanding a new dog. After 16 years we have had the last year dog-free. While I do love the 4 legged friends, a lot, I must confess the freedom the past year has been a relief. Weekends away, not having to rush home after work, etc.

I'm getting a bullmastiff. With any luck, around mid-Apr. next year.

We're putting my wife's dog down this week. She's 13+, mostly deaf, partially blind and now cannot hold any bodily function...and she just sleeps 23 3/4 hours a day.

We're probably getting another one in the spring and are looking for a Boston Terrier. I'd prefer a Basset or Blue Heeler, but she's the boss apparently.

Thanks boys, she had a good run and saved my missus from losing her mind when her fiance died in 02. Still a hard thing to do.

But not having to clean up after her all the time will be nice.

That's tough Matt. I have a jack russell that will be 16 next month. Can't hear a thing. Half blind and messes up the house. Was going to put her down awhile back but couldn't do it. My other little jack is 10 and wound up.

I have a 65 lb blue pit, 7 years old and good as gold. Someone want her?
