@jfurr - If you can catch J. Roddy, i'd highly recommend it. Especially with that kind of crowd since they're so full of energy.

I went to the first Coachella before everyone else caught on, I am so hip like that. Beck tore it up. The rest I don't really remember. Spiritualized, and a bunch of shitty low rent electronic acts. Those festivals sounds great on paper, but realistically, how much music can you take in in one event? Reminds me of those diner menus with a hundred items. Impressive at first, but then again, all that really matters is the one plate that's in front of you.

Never mind what is it good for, who can afford it?

Well, some of it.

David Gilmour is touring later this year, so I thought I'd look up some ticket prices. Cheapest seated ticket? £285.

Two Hundred and Eighty Five Pounds!

That's US$420.

I think I'll get the DVD...

What an asshole that Gilmour. Who does he think he is, McCartney? Pink Floyd members have to be set for life multiple times over. Spiritually the right thing for a David Gilmour to do would be to charge a lot less, mostly to cover expenses, and perform for the sheer love of it. What good is it to sell a hundred million albums, if you're still going to be a greedy bastard about things? Come on Gilmour, time to give back a little.

Played my first live gig on guitar in a long while Saturday night with a new little garage band group we put together at a hip joint in town called Art Bar. A small-ish turnout but fun times and many good pals came out to see. First gig with the AC30, Gretsch, Dano 12 string, etc. Sounded good and no disasters on stage despite our barely feeling ready. This group has one more gig at beginning of May that is going to be a bigger show, but we have to expand our set and work on some more songs and maybe a cover. I've been rooting for a Modern Lovers tune, but not sure...

While in Paris last week, saw this jazz group playing american music from the 20s and 30s in a dinner+concert thing at about $60 including food (drinks were extra). Bought their CD: it was awesome and fun!

also... I played a gig last night at a cultural event... my pals and I did our alt-rock, garage, indie-folk quirky tunes in front of a "festival crowd" at the museum of art of one of four bands on two stages alternating and it was okay. It was a little bit like playing in a shopping mall or something with all the normal full lights on. Odd.

The show was a nice time. Our friend Mike achieved a lifetime goal of having his photo taken with Kate and Michael Stipe at the after show gathering.

Saw a band late last night from Nashville called Birdcloud. Laughed my ass off. Kind of like if Tenacious D were two hot PBR-swilling tattooed country chicks with explicit lyrics. At one point they put the microphones to the side and both put on cheesy Garth Brooks style headset microphones and stood real close to each other and sang to each other. I use the term singing loosely- its more like simultaneous shouting. Keep in mind this is in a really small total dive rock and roll bar. Perfect. Then for the grand finale one of them unzipped her cutoff jeans shorts and the other dropped to her knees, and put her face in the other girls shorts, and PLAYED A HARMONICA SOLO (hidden harmonica) it was funny as hell.

Then today I did sound and mixed another show. A daytime outdoor thing at the college for new students. My live sound business has been taking off I've had gigs past three weekends.

Saw my fourth Of Montreal show in Asheville NC last weekend. I know I'm getting borderline deadheadish about going to these shows, but man it's fun and there is a cool ritualistic aspect which I kind of got hooked on. Slam packed crowd, everybody dancing, great sound, funny theatrics, awesome psychedelic video projections again. The band had a change in the lineup compared to the other shows which interested me how they would pull off some of the tunes with Kevin (singer) having to cover all the guitars also.

Going to Atlanta next week to see Luna on their reunion show. I used to know the bass player in the 90's when she lived here for a short while before moving away and joining the band.

Have to blast back early in the morning as I'm running sound at a music festival the next day (on the kid student side stage).

Just saw Luna 10 year reunion tour kick off show last night in Atlanta. Superb. They did they popular "Penthouse" album straight through plus a few extra popular songs.

Tonite going to see Blond Redhead. Not a longtime fan but have liked the bits I have heard.
