Lately we have been putting on Pandora's "Traditional Italian Music" station. Now that is music! ;) Love the accordion, mandolin, etc... Haven't the foggiest idea what Jerry Vale and his ilk are singing about. A glass of red and "Quando, Quando, Quando". Woo hoo.

To think that my grand kids only sort of know about the Beatles. That group is about as foreign to them as Bing Crosby is to me.

There are a lot of people in my generations clueless about the Beatles. It is not really a subject I can discuss with any kind of civility. It is sort of my religion. I know the Beatles say all you need is love and whatever, but I can get so passionate over it that eventually I'll want to bonk people over the head.

This old ass video of a Pixies concert in the Netherlands from 1990 blew my mind last night. I was almost in tears. The best goddamned band of their time. :facepalm

It's got a little euro-funk / Clash thing going on that I dig. I like the production trickery they put in there too. It's non traditional.

Yes of course, Spoon have a great sound, very hip.

Right now my favorite band is Pixies. I bought an actual CD, a greatest hits comp, just to get at the live bonus disc, which is that same Netherland show as the "Gouge Away" clip I posted in response to your describing some of your golf swing troubles.

I am glad to be discovering some of this 80s/90s classic indie rock at this stage of my life, but also makes me deeply sad thinking about what I was doing at the time these records were being released. I was clueless and listening to bland crap like U2. Pearl Jam did kind of open my teenage ears to music that's a little more raw but I was such an unhip little kid. We all were, behind the Orange Curtain of Orange County CA. I thought I was cool because I listened to the big powerhouse alt-rock radio station of Southern California and even though they played some cool stuff, I missed out on a lot. If only I had been turned on to the Pixies, the Smiths and Stone Roses then. I would be a lot cooler person today. :nope

So on my drive to sc I found out that Pandora finally gets me. Here is a sample of the artists in my first hour of driving.

Eminem
Johnny Cash
The Ramones
Jay z
Real big fish
Tupac
The Beatles
Acdc

Is this a sign that I might be schizophrenic?

Not really. It's all rhythmic western music, sung in English, largely based on pentatonic scale and 4/4 time signature.

I love it. It's like the prototypical Oasis song. From all the way back in 1978!

Re: ... currently listening to: comedy rock

Jfurr posted a Rutles video in another thread. That has sent me into a comedy rock downward spiral. Rutles, Spinal Tap, even digging some Tenacious D. I don't know what about me has changed but when I listen to those guys sing about cock push-ups and Cutlass Supremes, I feel not so alone in the world.

I have come to the awkward realizations that I now would rather listen to the Rutles than Oasis, and also consider Spinal Tap unironically one of my top fifteen favorite bands. :facepalm I heard a rare funk version of "Sex Farm" the other day, it was quite the revelation.

Have you ever seen the "Bad News" rockumentary? It's like Spinal Tap but it's the guys from The Young Ones.

I was all into the Beatles mono set. I'm over it. There's a couple songs where the mixdown IS a lot different from the stereo but since I listen a lot on earbuds, the stereo sounds mostly better. If only because its in stereo. Mono through earphones sounds flat.
