Rahm #5 in the world and why that's impressive

Post by Duke of Hazards » Thu Sep 14, 2017 5:58 pm

John Ram
turned pro June 2016
achieved top 50 OWGR- 1/28/2017 - 222 days
top 25- 3/4/2017 - 257 days
top 5- 9/2/2017 - 439 days

Rory McIlroy
turned pro Sep 2007
top 50- 11/22/2008 - 431 days
top 25- 1/31/2009 - 501 days
top 5- 6/18/2011 - 1369 days

Jordan Spieth
turned pro Dec 2012
top 50- 8/17/2013 - 245 days
top 25- 9/21/2013 - 280 days
top 5- 3/28/2015 - 833 days

Tiger Woods
turned pro Aug 1996
top 50- 10/19/1996 - 65 days
top 25- 1/11/1997 - 149 days
top 5- 4/12/1997 - 240 days

Other notables:
Phil Mickelson - 1995 days (estimate) to OWGR top 5
Dustin Johnson - 1365 days (estimate) to OWGR top 5
Jason Day - 2779 days (estimate) to OWGR top 5

Clearly John Ram is no Tiger Woods, but using this specific metric, this guy seems like he may have quite a career ahead of him.

Or perhaps it is a reflection of the fact that the current lineup of professionals at the top is like a revolving door?
Let's Play 36
GHIN Handicap: 7.8 … 9.2 … Let’s just say I am around a 14!

So he's now a year and a half into his pro career and set to overtake Spieth for #2 in the world.

Nothing?

Nope nothing. I know, it's not right. But it's the way it is. I seen that kid on the TV and everything, just had no reaction. Some people just don't move the needle I guess.

I've been following all the Lamelo and LiAngelo news lately though.

I'm no Pats fan but Tom Brady was so clutch in that fourth quarter yesterday. Good game.

So he's now #2 in the world. I think he needs to make some noise at majors before most people take notice.

Did you guys realize that Greg Norman spent 331 weeks at #1 in the world (2nd place overall) but only won 2 majors? That's like 25 majors he played as the top dog and only got the win twice. He's no shark. More like a guppy. Maybe a minnow.

I think the media is over focused on the rankings and the majors, but that's the media who has to fill airtime and web pages. Personally I think the rankings are a farce - would anyone trade their year for Justin Thomas' 2017? I think not. But he's not number 1 right now. Rahm's had an impressive 12 months, but would you take his 12 months over DJ or Speith (I know the rankings are a weighted 18 months but that's another stupid thing IMO)? Probably not.

That said Rahm is the real deal. You add him and Fleetwood to the European Ryder Cup team at a home venue and I think that Europe is now the favorite. Of course, things can change by September.

I got pissed at Chez and took him off the banner. But you know, by virtue of this conversation, we are probably back to #1 again. :facepalm
