LPGA Hilton Tournament of Champions this weekend. I may fit in a little viewing between NFL playoff games. Nice to have the ladies back in action.

p.s. The field looks sort of thin. And they have Michelle Wie West in the Pro-Am. How did she get in?

It became obvious last year that she has A) carte blanche in women's golf and 2) nothing better to do than hang around at events. If you like women's golf, you will be dealing with her for the next several decades.

Hm, looks like they stretched the criteria to include Michelle Wie West. Not the first time, nor the last.

Medical/Maternity Exemption

Her last win as in 2018. It is not clear how they arrived at the exemption. She played tournaments in 2019 and 2021.

I have watch bits and pieces of the last two LPGA events. Makes me want to play in good acceptable weather on a course in decent shape.

It was good to see Lydia Ko break through for a win. She was on fire half a dozen years ago and then went into a bit of a slump (winless for 3 years). Seems like she is back to being competitive with a win last year and now this one.

And, a Silver Medal in the Olympics.
I think Sean Foley has really helped her. Leadbetter screwed up her swing and head, IMO.

US Woman Open qualifying is coming to my home course in a couple months. I'll try to go hit balls that day so I can snoop around the competition.

US Woman Open qualifying is coming to my home course in a couple months. I'll try to go hit balls that day so I can snoop around the competition.

Well, I followed through and went down to hit the balls. Unfortunately they closed off the whole range for the qualifiers to use exclusively. So I snooped around and learned that the LPGA's Su Oh had just teed off #10, and I caught up and followed her for four holes, which she played in -1 with two birdies. She shot 67 for the first half, just two shots off the lead. For reasons unknown however, she withdrew somewhere on her 2nd back nine. Sad. Being a pessimist (and narcissist) I can't help but wonder if my presence somehow contributed to that unfortunate development, in a butterfly effect sort of way. As in, if I had simply turned around and gone home, maybe today Su Oh would have been US Open-bound. We will never know.

I guess I am a Su Oh fan now. Having watched her slug it out on my dinky local course, I feel sort of a bond.
