2020 PGATOUR thread

Post by legitimatebeef » Sun Jan 19, 2020 11:46 am

That's right, heed this trigger warning you faeries. For I have indeed combined women's and men's (non-Woods) pro golf discussion into one woke and inclusive thread. For now at least. :fuckall

Today the great Hall of Famer Inbee Park will attempt to close out a two-shot lead for her twentieth LPGA win. She is back in action looking for another Olympics berth this year and evidently she is not fucking around. Most of these LPGA pikers are all talk. Not Inbee Park though.

Playing the same par 3 18th hole is so stupid. And then they run out of light. Way to go LPGA. :facepalm

The LPGA/golf-industrial complex has made fools of us all yet again. Nuke this whole tournament going forward IMO. "Celebrity" my ass. More like a bunch of disgraced, steroid cheating, sign-stealing ex-baseball players.

Between this and Phil Mickelson sad protesting that he's not getting old and sad, the year in pro golf has gotten off to a lousy start.

I read that Ms. Lopez won the playoff on the 7th playing of the 18th hole. I still think they erred in re-playing the final par 3 over and over and over and over and .... well you get the idea. Maybe go to #9, too? Although I do not know the layout, traditionally #18 and #9 end at the clubhouse. Even if #9 did not end near the clubhouse, surely some other hole was a reasonable stroll for the fans to gather and watch (or had TV coverage).

I bet it had to do with the fact they had already started removing the cameras and TV equipment from holes 1-17

I would hope that all high-level golf tournaments have a pre-planned playoff format and that they don't just decide what to do on the spot based on wherever TV equipment happens to be. :puke

What I'm saying is I think that pre-planning takes equipment into account. Which makes it less likely to deviate from that plan. So if the plan is decided by a bunch of TV executives and the Tournament Director. They will likely come up with a plan of just replaying 18th hole until its over.

The issue then is this plan becomes extremely inflexible and can't be adjusted in the off chance that there is a playoff scenario that might require a hole that has wider variation of scores to get that playoff over quickly.

I have to admit I am delighting in Phil Mickelson's decline. Not really the decline per se, but more so because he is not handling it with much dignity. Keeps on protesting that he "can still hit bombs" and that he is still "with it" or whatever. Ok so I don't know if he actually said "with it". But you know that is what he means.

I can relate to him. Nobody wants to give in to age, especially when your mind says you are the same guy you were 20 years ago. It sucks.

I don't think Phil is qualified for the US Open as of now.

If not, he will get a special invite, I suspect.

And then turn it down in a huff https://www.golfchannel.com/news/should ... on-us-open

Should be interesting to watch this ongoing saga as he attempts to qualify. Succeed or fail I'm guessing this will become an annual event for the next few years as Phil Mickelson continues to not go gentle into that good night.

I agree with Phil. If you are not good enough to qualify in one way or the other, then don't play. It can suck being a ceremonial golfer unless, like me, one has always been a "field filler".

I suspect he's being indignant because he's been so mean and nasty to the USGA in recent years. I am actually shocked, I didn't think he had this sort of integrity. I assumed he would have lapped up a US Open exemption with no hesitation.

Coronavirus fallout has now claimed three LPGA tournaments in China, Singapore and Thailand. Now there will be a solid month of no LPGA golf right in the middle of the season. Thanks for nothing China, bunch of totalitarian knuckleheads.

They keep touting 9 of the top 10 players in the world at the Genesis. Looked to see who the missing guy was and pleased to see it's douchey smug faced Webb Simpson. Good riddance.

Wow, I don't know many people who don't like Webb. He's not my favorite or anything, but I never had a reason not to like him. Did I miss something earlier in his career that turned him into a "douche?" He seems like a real nice guy to me, based on all the interviews I have seen him do, as well as the Feherty episode on which he was featured. I admit, I never cared for the fact that he used a long putter, but I didn't like that Adam Scott did as well. I just didn't think long putters belonged in the game of golf at that level, but the guys that used them didn't bother me at all. They were playing within the rules. They just looked stupid to me.

Here is one of the strangest, saddest golf bags you will ever see, and it belongs to one of the highest salaried athletes in the history of athletes. It's worth a look IMO.
