Has the Ma-hasturrrs ever been postponed? Events such as this always seem so precious and hallowed and important, matters of life and death practically... until some real shit goes down in the world, and then reality snaps into focus and you're like, oh yeah, it's just some sports. We can skip a year or two and come back to it, really not that big a deal. So in that sense maybe crises such as this are good to experience every now and then. A splash of cold water in the fucking face, so to speak.

For three years, 1943-1945, there was no Masters as a result of WW II. But I suspect it was more a "Tournament" than a major back then.

One Week In November

Post by legitimatebeef » Mon Apr 06, 2020 4:40 pm

If all goes according to plan we are in for a year-end Golf on TV extravaganza like nothing we've ever seen before. There's never been anything like it before. Nobody's ever done a job like we've done a great job, ok?

The fun part will be watching CBS' juggling act of scheduling the Masters, SEC Football Saturday, and an NFL Sunday
I will stand in the fairway, I want to be out of your range.

If my calendar is correct, it is Masters week. As much as I regret the event being postponed, it is kind of neat that we get a different look at Augusta in November. Do the trees change color? Or are the leaves gone?

A few weeks ago I somehow convinced myself that the tournament was scheduled for this past week. I let myself rant and rave for a while before verifying the actual dates.

I am really looking forward to it. Should the defending champion fall out of contention however, I'm probably out. I feel so distant from pro golf fandom lately. Maybe it's the pandemic but the stakes feel so low. Almost every event I check out this season feels about as consequential as that Champions Tour Parent/child tournament. When you take away the bababooeys from pro golf, turns out you lose quite a lot.

I hope that some of the main stories and names stay in it, i try and watch the other tournaments, but when most of the big names miss them, or play them and play as bad as me, its hard to tune in for more.

Hoping for a great week.

Watching featured group coverage on the app. Unbelievably there is no commentary, just ambient sound. It is strange but wonderful. There's no way this will last so I'd better enjoy it.

5-time Masters Champion Tiger Woods is currently golfing his ball. :ohyeah

The place looks okay but I am a bit shocked at the condition of the teeing areas. Not only is the grass brown and patchy, the surfaces do not appear level. Not trying to be a smart alex here, but they really do remind me of my local muni.

Yes, does not look as tidy as I remember.

Feeling good about Mr Wood's game. Two holes to go ... 67? 66?

How about Larry Mize!

This could change in the span of a few holes but right now, I love the Masters.

Likely not happening for Rory McIlroy this year. Pre tournament I read about him saying something like "Well maybe since nobody will be watching, this could be my opportunity". I like this guy but I wonder if he will ever get it done with that sort of attitude.

Dechambeau is going to split his nutsack one of these days.

He shot what, 5 under today... he had so many cliffhangers, he could have shot 8 or 9 under easy... unlucky really.
It was good to see him playing better, I hope he shoots good again tomorrow to at least scare them a little.

Maybe that's where his lost ball ended up :P
Surprised they found his yesterday, but they couldn't find it today.

Sort of weird watching as night came. Outside at our home, is was almost dark while they were still playing. I think the further south one lives, the days do not get as long nor as short so GA had a bit more sun. I will need to get up early to see how Tiger does on the par 5's.

It's ok. It's nobody fault. Dustin Johnston will be a worthy champion here at least. And there's a little sideshow action, if you can enjoy Dechambeau being forced to eat some shit after all that pre-tournament bravado.
