2021 PGA TOUR

Post by legitimatebeef » Sun Jan 31, 2021 10:47 pm

The new season is here. It started off much like you'd expect an LPGA season to start, with two Korean born players winning the first two events. :lolz

This week: Patrick Reed now a Titleist guy, after many years of being a Callaway guy. When the hell did this happen?! You don't often see players hit the big time, and then sign on with Titleist. Titleist guys are usually born, not made--right Doug? Anyways, waiting to hear your thoughts on the prestige brand signing up a highly controversial player such as Reed.

As far as I know, he only has a ball deal with Titleist. He chose to wear the hat. He has worked with Titleist on some irons, but presently, he is not sponsored by T for any clubs. He does have a bunch in his bag though. Driver, a couple wedges and a putter. Presently, he still plays his own custom branded irons.

Now I see why the hat space is so important in golf. Layperson like me just assumed a strong union between Patrick Reed and Titleist. The hat has power, people. Even though he is a persona non grata, he just gave Titleist a bunch of exposure while winning a prestigious tournament. Probably says more about his own "Q rating" than anything else. Doubt you would ever see a Rickie Fowler just giving away that ad space for free.

I would not be surprised to see Patrick going a bit further with Titleist. I do know has has been working recently with Titleist club designers and Tour reps. And that they have been helping him with certain things. (Not sure what, exactly.) Maybe he's trying to encourage a deal by wearing the Titleist cap, to show appreciation for the work they have done with him. Just speculation on my part.

Big storylines brewing over on PGA TOUR. Jordan groping in the dark trying to find his way back into the winner's circle after like four years in the wilderness. If he wins there will probably be tears. Steve Stricker, a longshot, trying to become the oldest-ass winner in tour history. If he wins there will definitely be many tears. Tied with Jordan in the final group is Xander Schauffele, who Ms Beef informed me has a bit of a choking problem. (She read about it somewhere. No joke this is how out of the PGA TOUR loop I am these days.) Lastly if he breaks through his struggles and wins, some tears would not surprise me. So as you can see there is a lot at stake today.

Yesterday's round, watching and rooting for Jordan, was a good TV viewing day. Looking forward to today's round. I think Xander is mentally tough. I'm not sure about him choking. It's Jordan I'm worried about. I have no problem with Xander, but Jordan's got my full support today. It's good to see him competitive again. Hope he can keep it up, going forward, win or lose today.

I don't know anything about this Scottie Scheffler, but I hope he is a real nice guy who like, volunteers and rescues animals and stuff. Cuz otherwise that is one hell of a shitty, country club snot name.

Did anybody watch yesterday. For a golf telecast, it was quite entertaining. Everyone all nervous and fucking up until stupid Koepka comes along yet again and flexes his nutsack. Lots of bogeys down the stretch of a golf tournament, is entertainment IMO. I delighted in Jordan's misfortunes in particular but only because the TV people are so in the bag for that kid, and it was amusing hearing their hearts breaking all day, and all the rationalizing. That water ball on 17 was pure melodrama, because the roll out took so long, Jordan begging and begging, then pitifully accepting his fate with an ironic smile and laughter.

I watched it all. Disappointed Jordan didn't finish on top, but was encouraged by his play overall. Always liked Jordan. A class act imo.

I watched a tiny bit of the "Crosby". Just could not get into watching. I noted Jordan Spieth was leading. As I have aged, watching golf on TV no longer a panacea for not playing.

I'm watching and rooting for Jordan. Can't play now (due to 6 or 8 inches of snow on the course) anyway. Freezing rain all day, roads terrible, so the AT&T Pebble Beach it is!

Listen you don't have to be aged to be fed up with insipid nonsense. Of all the sports on TV, golf is down there with the worst. (Talking about all the people whose talking you have to listen to, not the game itself, calm down, jack.) They are daring you to change the channel essentially.

You know what, fuck the PGA Tour anyways. I tuned in yesterday to watch some golf but they were weather delayed. In Southern California. On account of 35mph wind. I'm not going to go around calling people pussies. I know what's going on, I know that balls were rolling off greens and whatever. They deserve scorn for not adjusting the course conditions. A perfectly clear sunny Saturday of golf... wasted. Just because they wanted their greens super-fast. Say, isn't this Tiger's tournament? Well fuck that guy too. Fuck everyone involved with golf.

The struggles of Rickie and Jordan have caught the attention of the New York Times.

Spieth and Fowler: Golf Prodigies Seek a Way Back From the Wilderness

Not so long ago Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler were ascending PGA Tour stars. Now they feel each other’s pain and trade notes. Can they get their grooves back?

Jordan knocking on the door yet again this weekend. I know I said I ran out of shits to give but what he is doing is probably the most interesting story in the game. Goo for him.

In this little group of golf-minded people, it appears that the lone remaining viewer of golf on TV... is this guy. :facepalm If that does not spell doom for the business of golf on tv, I do not know what else would.

I was a viewer yesterday. I was pulling for "Westy", also. I don't follow golf closely enough but Justin Thomas strikes me as a one dimensional athlete whose family paved (and pushed) his way to golf success. A country clubber. No reason to dislike him but hard to get excited by his success.
