Sorry Beef, you will have to fight me for that title. But it is nice to know there is at least one other dedicated fan to help me cheer him on. Hopefully throughout the entire weekend. Fingers crossed. Hey, what's the worst he can do, 18th? (Actually I am more worried about a DNF or WDR.) At least there is no cut.

Surprised and disappointed by the endorsement of Monster brand energy drink. Since he claims he's a health nut and all. Why not something healthy like La Croix brand sparkling water? I'm a out of control heathen but I'd still have a hard time sleeping well knowing I am using my considerable influence to hock drinks that are jacked up with drugs, artificial sweeteners and colors.

Bunker to bunker on 14th. Tough shot, but looking at another bogey. Was looking good on the front. It's early. Not too worried...yet. Wait!....What a save! Par on 14. Great putt. :yess

C'mon Tiger

Finally, a closeup of the Scotty Cameron putter. I'll admit I got a little emotional.

Didn't expect much more. Just happy he did not look in pain. He swung with a good tempo. A few shots were bad, but for the most part he seemed in control. He hit some real nice shots too. At least he didn't make a fool of himself. He competed. Was tied for the lead for a short minute or two. He's getting his feet wet. I'm fine with what I saw today. Not bad after no competitive golf in 15 months or so...and a couple back surgeries. Let's also remember the scrutiny he was under today. He is the only reason...ONLY REASON...that anyone tuned into a Thursday round of an 18-player tournament.

I have a word for where we are after today. Patience.

I love the reaction from everyone.

How to define Tiger's success this week?
Pre-tournament - Play 72 holes pain free.
After 8 holes - Get injured hoisting trophy.

So 50% of today's first pairing WD with potential back issues.

And that person's name wasn't Tiger.

It will be interesting to see what he does when he has no waiting, a completely open course all to himself.

Last time he went out solo as the 1st tee time he shot 11 strokes better than the prior day. To be fair his prior round was 85 in that case.

So extrapolating useless history we are looking at a 62.

I think it would be beneficial for the rest of the PGA tour players to pitch in and re-open Nike. They need to get that Scotty out of his hands lol.

I saw some twitter commentary pointing out that Rose's back problems appears to be the same as Tiger's and that Rose and Tiger both developed these problems while working with Sean Foley. Wouldn't think that there they would be connected but sure is interesting.

And I agree - based upon the last two days putting it seems surprising that he ever put the Scotty down, no matter what he was being paid.

Being a Titleist guy, I would love to give the Scotty much of the credit, however those greens were not that tough and most of the field putted pretty well too. Not to take anything away from Tiger's putting, as he did read the speed and breaks very well and hit the putts excellent. The rest of his game looked pretty good.

If he can play the weekend like he did today, he should be in the mix at the end. More importantly, if he continues to shed more of the rust by playing more often between now and Torrey Pines in January, without any pain or new issues, the Tour may just have their star back. Lots of "ifs," but just like me and (I would guess) Beef, I can guarantee the PGA Tour collectively is feeling very hopeful after today. One good solid day does not make Tiger a superstar again, but if he can do what he did today, while certainly still somewhat rusty, I'm sure millions of imaginations (mine included) are starting to run wild of what might be again. Unfortunately we've been here before with him not all that long ago, so I'll just keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.

He looks good again today. Played well through the front. Still holding my breath, but can't stop watching. Getting nothing done around the house.

:eh: Eh. Coulda been a real good round. The harder he tried to hit it off the tee on the back, the worse the result. All in all a decent round and a decent showing so far. Tomorrow he will probably try to make hero shots to try and catch up, and ultimately fall apart, but for now, I like what I see overall.
