“I mean, stuff happens. Stuff happens sometimes. Sometimes you just 4-putt and you've just got to carry on with your life.”

The defensiveness here is revealing. She sounds like she is being lectured by a pissed-off coach or by dad.

"Michelle, what the hell happened on the fifth hole? You four-putted, there wasn't even much break in any of those putts. That's unacceptable. Did you not feel comfortable over the ball?!"

“I mean, stuff happens. Stuff happens sometimes. Sometimes you just 4-putt and you've just got to carry on with your life. God, why can't you just relax?”

Ok so I made up the last sentence for effect but you get the point. I doubt the interviewer was grilling her about anything. But in her response she is clearly desperate to avoid any responsibility for what happened. From an empirical point of view that's not really a champion's attitude. Adam Scott shanked a routine bunker shot last year in a tense final round and afterwards he was like, "Man I guess I got nervous in front of Phil and I screwed up." Very basic, very frank take on it. Adam Scott seems sure of himself, confident in his abilities. An isolated fuck-up here or there does not weigh heavily on Adam Scott or cause him to question his ability or his Adam Scottness. I bet Michelle has a ton of textbook sports psychology claptrap stored up in her memory bank. It doesn't help though.

I checked your selections for the LPGA this week. Now I understand why you are so irascible today.

If she's so bigly proud of her performance yesterday that resulted in a T4 finish, that can only mean that she expected herself to do much worse. You see what I am saying here people. Michelle's words are essentially a coded cry for help.

Michelle is currently under par and T2. Okay so the tournament only started 45 minutes ago, but still! You know she has to be swelling with pride out there.

Wah. Made a couple bogies to drop back to -1. But she is still under par, and that's something to proud of.

Even Natalie Gulbis is under par. Are they playing a putt putt course?

What the heck is going on? She is like an NFL player in a contract year.

I'm so confused how she can make such a drastic turn around in such a short period of time.

-3 through 6 holes today.

It's a low scoring event, I think -30 won last year. But hey, it's Friday I don't want to suppress no one's boner. She is in a good position to chase down the lead.

This turnaround makes Nike look bad. As soon as she switches clubs she starts playing well. I doubt she ever really sold all that much gear for them either. Let's face it, she screwed em over big time--on the way in and again on the way out. What a jerk.

Went out in 37 today. But, she made a birdie on the first hole, and a birdie is almost always something to be proud of.

Well she clawed her way back to even par from +3.

I promise I have not yet read or heard any post-round interviews, but I am willing to bet cold hard cash that the words "proud of myself" came out of Michelle's mouth today.

Our young lady got waxed by Jutanugarn in the semi's but she did not fold as she worked her way through the bracket. She may have gotten a fortunate break when Escallon (who?) beat In Gee Chun in the first round. Beating the 8th, 16th, 12th and 11th seeds in your bracket is not exactly steamrolling a full field event. Still, it is a step forward.

Michelle Wie set a course record by shooting an 8-under-par 64 on Thursday to take the lead after one round in the Ricoh Women's British Open at Kingsbarns Golf Links just outside St. Andrews, Scotland.

While establishing the women's course mark, Wie took a one-stroke lead over In-Kyung Kim of South Korea and a two-shot lead over Lindy Duncan.

Wie completed her round before play was interrupted twice for inclement weather that included lightning in the early evening.

"I had a lot of fun out there today," Wie said. "The views were just so spectacular here, you kind of get lost in the view sometimes. I'm really proud of myself how I took advantage of conditions this morning."

Guess they missed her 76 she shot today.
I will stand in the fairway, I want to be out of your range.
